Cheapest Art Colleges In California

Where should I go to college, California or Florida?

Florida... Check out the University of Florida, Miami University (private), and University of Central Florida.... they are top notch schools that have excellent academics (as well at athletics, everyone knows the Gators down here) and are well respected. Florida is one of the cheapest states to go to college in and you can't beat the weather (though, i suppose in souther CA that would be true too). Schools in California aren't "way better", i suppose they would probably be about equal. I have heard that in some parts of Cali it is very hard getting a job because you are competing with all of the actors/actresses/musician wannabees there. LOL

Overall, i would suggest you apply to some in both. You don't know where you'll be accepted. Also, if you are still undecided why don't you try to think about where you want to be AFTER college, and then pick a school near there.

Good luck!

What are good colleges for journalism in California?

Below are all the journalism degrees at California public universities. There's plenty of private liberal arts colleges in California too, such as the Claremont Colleges, Pomona College, Claremont McKenna, Scripps, and Pitzer, which are located next to each other with the advantage of some shared facilities and cross enrollment. They have a unique media studies degree that you might check out. http://www.scrippscollege.edu/academics/... You would get a much more personal experience at the Claremont colleges, but you may need to see what kind of financial aid package that they offer to you, unless you can afford the tuition.

Is oregon a cheaper place to live than California?

I am in the bay area and lived in Portland for 6 months. The first time there, I found a sublet for 10 days on Portland Craigslist in exchange for cat-sitting and they didnt even know me, but they left a key to their house and I was there for 10 days. Never happen in L.A. People seem to be down to earth, more honest and more helpful.

You bet it is cheaper. The food in the supermarkets, the clothes, public transit, and everything except property tax and income tax. There is no sales tax at all, and that makes so much difference in your cost of living. The weather is rainy a lot of time and it gets hot and humid for a few weeks in summer like now. The environment is green and there are organic markets and farmers markets. The apartments are cheaper than San Francisco, L.A. and Sacramento but they have been steady in their cost even after foreclosures because the housing prices did not drop as much in Oregon. I don't know if you are in rural California because rents are cheap there. There is eastern Oregon where they get really cold winters, Central Oregon and Southern Oregon near the Ca. border. The coast is very cold and windy all the time except in summer. There is just not much commerce along the coast. Eugene is a college town and a nice small downtown like San Luis Obispo. Portland politics is generally more liberal than California, and they are all very laid back compared to California.

What are some good and affordable liberal arts colleges?

"Affordable" these days mainly means public (state) colleges, which offer much lower tuition to in-state than out-of-state students. SUNY College at Geneseo would be an example of a highly selective liberal arts college in New York state that is public.  The College of New Jersey is of the same caliber in New Jersey and the College of William and Mary is that high if not higher in selectivity and reputation for educational excellence in Virginia.  I don't know if Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington is so selective in its admissions, but it is considered excellent, and it too is state-run.  In California I'd go for the smallest UC's such as Riverside, Santa Cruz, or the new one at Merced to approximate the liberal arts college experience. These are among the best bargains in education, especially for one who wants to attend a great liberal arts college and doesn't want to pay Swarthmore prices ($47,442).  But if you are a New York State resident with superb qualifications (high SATs, high average, great letters of recommendation, and the writing skills to write fine application essays) and want to get a top-notch liberal arts education in NYC, you can't do better, pricewise, than the Macauley Honors College of the City University of New York. Why is that, you ask. Because it's free. That's because they are looking for the kinds of students who would otherwise go to Swarthmore or for that matter Dartmouth, the University of Chicago, or Columbia. Check it out.
