Most of the carbon chains are very long in crude oil ( a very large number), they are shortened by cracking. The longer the c chains the more viscous and thick it is as the long chain molecules cant move past one another as well. It is made up of a number of components, napthas have C 5-7 kerocene C 7-11, petroleum and other fuels longer chain lengths. Oils have about 15-20 C atoms in their chains.
