Clinical Psychiatrist Help

I am obsessed with my clinical psychiatrist! How do I remove it or forget about it?

you need to say that you would be more comfortable talking to another male, and be transferred to someone else.

What was your worst experience with a psychiatrist or clinical psychologist?

As it is still tough for me, I want to go anonymous. When I was a child, I had enuresis (I was wetting my bed), almost every night until I was 12. It was embarrasing, I had no power over it and the psychiatrist made it even worse. Let me put it chronologically. When I was 5 and still wetting my bed, my mom went to see my GP with me, she said in my age it is normal and did not care anymore. Then we went to see nephrologist. I was eating pills all my childhood and it didnt help. Later, when I was 9, my teacher adviced me to switch to a school for gifted children because I was incredibly smart for my age. It requiered seeing a child-psychiatrist. So we went there.I hated her from the first second, while doing the IQ test she was constantly mocking me about the way I look. I have always been chubby. I don't know what was her problem, but even in the age of 9, I could tell she is unprofessional. Then my mom told her about my enuresis. We had so many meetings. Talks. I dont remember most of them but I remember her teasing me about my weight and looks every single time, she was even laughing that I have no friends. And do you know what did she write about me to the papers? She says that the cause of my enuresis was obesity. 1. I was far from obese. 2. How could it possibly be even related? ... She was making me believe that I am a terrible ugly antisocial person, that I dont do enough for my mom and family and that it is not normal that I prefer playing alone than with friends. I dont remember if we stopped going there after that. And I dont remember most of the meetings, which I am grateful about, because she caused my low confidence and my self-hate. She made me believe that I am some kind of fat monster, which caused me depression and an eating-disorder. I was fighting the damages she caused since then. I still havent won. But I am working on it. The only thing I am sure about is, that I will never ever search for a help of psychiatrist again. The power to help yourself is inside you.

What does a clinical psychologist do? ?

A clinical psychologist helps people deal with their problems, adjust to life's difficulties, and change their behavior for the better. Typically they work with people who need more intensive or longer-term intervention than those seeing a counseling psychologist, though the positions are similar in many ways. A clinical psychologist might have clients with chronic conditions such as anxiety and panic disorder, who have endured child abuse, or who have physical conditions causing psychological problems.

Clinical psychologists address issues such as divorce, death, anxiety, depression, addictive behavior, eating disorders, and relationship issues. They help emotionally disturbed people adjust to life. Because they cannot prescribe drugs for treatment, they refer patients to a psychiatrist or medical doctor if a prescription is advisable. They sometimes work with physicians to develop and implement treatment programs. Some conduct group psychotherapy sessions with families, or groups of individuals with similar problems.

More experienced clinical psychologists may begin working in forensic psychology, where they are asked to evaluate the mental health of criminal suspects, write legal reports and act as expert witnesses in criminal cases. Other clinical psychologists act as consultants to social, educational, and welfare agencies on specific cases. They may evaluate, plan, develop, and implement mental health programs. Some go on to conduct research in universities or hospitals on specific mental health issues.

How much do clinical psychologists usually make?

For the first year, clinical psychologists are accumulating their postdoctoral hours to apply for licensure, so they don't make much. For individuals in a formal postdoctoral program, they can expect to make $30,000 to $45,000 a year. Some people dive into the work force (a difficult thing to do if you don't have a license). The APA did a survey in 2003 on new graduates with doctoral degrees. The overall median starting salary in 2003 was $52,556 with an average of $54,814 and a standard deviation of $16,889. Women reported a median salary that was $3,000 lower than that reported by men. Most graduates reported median starting salaries between $46,000 and $58,000.

After you obtain your license, you make more because you are able to practice independently (without supervision). The average salary varies according to experience and the location of the practice. Here is the most recent (2003) APA salary survey.
The average salary for a clinical psychologist is about $75,000.

I need emergency help, I feel I need  to visit a psychiatrist What should I do?

You definitely need to see a mental health professional (psychologist/psychiatrist) and talk to them in detail about your feelings.  They are the people who can listen to you without judging you, interpret the deeper meaning of your behavior, and go to the core of the problem.  With them, you can definitely understand yourself better and why you do the things you do.  They will help you to unlearn behaviors which are hampering your interactions with others; you will also learn a set of behaviors which can enable you to interact more fruitfully.  You will learn to look at yourself more objectively and understand your own thought patterns.  These sessions will be of great help to you for solving future problems.  Among psychiatrists, there are some who also do counseling and therapy in addition to treating with medication.  The advantage of seeing such psychiatrists is that they offer a one-stop solution by way of medicines and counseling.  Clinical psychologists undertaking counseling and psychotherapy are well-versed in the use of psychometric tools (such as questionnaires and rating scales) and they use a variety of counseling techniques (psychodynamic, cognitive, behavioral, existential, supportive, etc.) to help you cope.  When you start therapy, please ensure that you are comfortable with the therapist.  If you are unable to develop a good rapport or trust with your therapist, you will not be able to reveal details about yourself.  In such situations, you will not be able to see the benefit from therapy.  Feel free to discuss with your therapist your fears and anxieties about the therapy.  In case you feel the sessions are not progressing as well as you want it to, discuss that too.   Specify clearly what you are expecting from therapy.  Get a clear picture from the therapist as to what to expect from therapy.  It is important to match your expectations with what therapy can offer.  Finally, give the sessions some time to have a positive impact on you.

How does a psychiatrist help patients besides sitting there and talking?

Psychiatrists are medical doctors first, and psychiatrists second. Rather than sitting and talking, their role is primarily medication management. With their medical degree, and their training in the biological bases of behaviour, they are equipped to prescribe medication to treat mental health issues. While psychiatrists can perform therapy, this is not their area of expertise. This is more commonly performed by Clinical or Counselling Psychologists or Social Workers.Clinical/Counselling Psychologists are trained as scientists and clinicians and can also perform personality assessments and other tools that only their profession can, like the Rorschach inkblot test and the MMPI personality test.Social Workers are trained in therapy but also broader interventions and how to work with organizations and communities.

Go where your HEART takes you and find happiness.

Go where your PARENTS want you to go and find support funds.

Plan on spending $40,000 USD per year to study medicine in the USA. Some loans available. Many doctors graduate medicine owing $100,000 USD. double for psychiatrists, who make about $100,000 - 300.000 per annum in the USA. Clinical Psych is about half to 2/3 that. You can check the internet for salary comparisons, but look also to the MALPRACTICE INSURANCE costs per year, which can exceed $100,000 USD.
