College Problem- How Can I Study Well And Focus Well

How do i stay focused in college?

I was a B+/A- student in HS and then when I got to college it was a big shock because I found I actually had to study unlike high school.

I still am a procrastinator and I need to study more but the best way I have found to succeed is to go to the library at a time that you have selected the previous day and find a quiet place and just study.

Why am I unable to focus in college?

I am a sophomore in college and maintaining below a 3.0 GPA which is horrible for masters. I am afraid of my future but no matter how much I need to study, I cannot focus for more than 10 minutes on a single subject without straying off. I star at my study notes for hours only to end my day with the realization that I accomplished nothing.

I feel like the word ADD is thrown around loosely as well as anxiety. I know I have anxiety but I'm not sure if there is anything more under the surface here. I don't have many friends at all in college and I can get a little lonely and end up sitting in my room staring at my computer screen instead of doing anything productive (aside from going to class and working out).

My biggest concern is not having the ability to change my study habits. I tell myself everyday I'll study, but I always end my day talking to friends back in my home town or procrastinating everything I possibly can. It feels like I have no control over my procrastination sometimes. I go to class, but obviously that is only 1/10 the battle. No, I have never seen a counsler, but I've never felt comfortable speaking to anyone other than one of my closest friends back home about my problems.

I have heard: Seek for help, make new friends, get out more, go to the library, but I am hoping someone can please help me with a deeper answer. Thanks for the help everyone, I appreciate it very much.

I can't focus on studying?

You and I are in the same boat, except in my case it's my finals that I'm failing to study for :/ Print off any notes you need off the computer, then TURN OFF your laptop and put it away so it's not distracting you. Set the alarm on your phone so that it goes off every half hour, reminding you to take a break. Get chewing gum or some food and chew on it while you study, chewing helps you concentrate. As for the music problem, look up study play lists on YouTube (classical music is great too) and listen to them while you study so that you'll have relaxing background music playing in your head, not loud distracting music. If you find your mind wandering, go for a 5 minute walk, have a glass of water or a smoke or whatever, then get back to work. As tempting as it is, go to bed at a reasonable hour and wake up early to study rather than studying into the wee hours of the morning then sleeping in - not only will the former help your body schedule match that of the exam schedule, you'll absorb more information when you're not struggling to stay awake. Just reading material out of a book isn't very efficient for keeping your interest stimulated or for absorbing information, so instead of just reading, take notes or read aloud, then at the end of a chapter do a few questions to make sure you understand the material.

Good luck with your exam! :)

How can I focus in studies, avoiding the guy I am In love with?

Thanks for A2A.Well this is indeed a tricky question and is not as easy as it seems..First and Foremost That is not love which you have mentioned. This is probably an infatuation which guys at your age generally feels. You cant help it much but yes you cant compromise on your studies. Now coming to the point and without any thought You should concenterate on your studies first. Studies will make you independent and confident. Remember one thing, knowledge is a beautiful thing that can stand for it self. Give priorities to your life first. If you think your career comes first, concenterate on your studies and leave no stone unturned. Everything else can wait but not academics as one doesnt get a second chance. Well enough speaking it also depends on mindset and therefore decide on your priorities and work towards your goals.I didnt know what background you are but as I am asked to A2A i assume you might be preparing for some competetive exams or in class 11/12.So my advice to you is that be true to yourself ,to your goal and to your hard work which you are investing on your studies and want some fruitful results.Believe me everything else in life wait and there is ample amount of time after your studies or once you get into college. At last, you can never sail on two boats and if you will..sooner or later you know the consequences. So decide accordingly and take wise decisions.P.S. We can cheat everyone except our own consciousness!!!Thanks for reading.
