College Search Tool/ Any Advice

What advice would you give to high schoolers in regards to college admissions process out of your own experience?

Decide for yourself what you want to study, then decide (again, for yourself) where you'd like to interview.  Think seriously about state schools in your state, or -- if you're absolutely set on a school where you don't yet live because it has exactly the program you know for sure that you want -- plan to go live there for however long it will take to qualify for in-state tuition.  Also, plan to go into as little debt as possible, applying for every scholarship you think you have a remote chance at winning.  Then, after you matriculate, remember: you're the customer, so (although you're not always literally right) it is the school which is lucky to have you, not the other way around, and therefore they, not you who must justify your continued support year to year -- both in your specific major, and with regards to whether or not you decide to keep on going there, to transfer to another school or to leave college to do something else, for a while, or forever.

How should I choose my safety colleges?

The same way you choose All of the colleges to which you are applying:The college must be a great fit for You and you must believe you are a great fit for the collegeThe college must be cost-Effective for You.If your high school record and standardized tests are well within the top 25% of accepted students for that college, then you may have found a good “safety school”, which typically has a High acceptance rate (50% or higher).Use University & College Search Tool as a starting point to get some ideas, After you have had some Long discussions with yourhigh school guidance counselor. All the best.

No College Accepted Me?

I applied to six colleges, two of them art and the rest universities. I did okay in high school except for my math but I thought they would look past that. Despite being put on the waitlist for one college, none of the six I applied for accepted me. So now I'm stuck going to community college for two years. I know that doesn't sound too bad since a lot of people are doing that, but it's just the fact that no college wanted me that makes me more depressed than I already clinically am. All of my friends got accepted somewhere and I didn't. I know in life there are bumps you have to get over but I feel like such a failure, not getting accepted ANYWHERE. Any advice? I'm really feeling down.

Is the New England College of Business and Finance a good school?

I am a current student of New England College of Business and Finance, it is a decent program. Most of the professors that teach classes also teach at some of the major universities. It is 100% online program. Majority of the students are from the New England area or Boston region. Most students work full-time at a bank or financial institution, such as the Federal Reserve Bank in Boston.

I would recommend New England College of Business & Finance to anyone who is working full-time and looking for affordability and convenience. I was also considering University of Massachusetts, Boston University, Bentley University. However, given this economy, I went for most affordable university.

Hope this helps!

Good or bad resume for a biology student just out of college? Suggestions are desired?

Overall, it's a very good resume.

It would be better (more effective) if you were able to get it all on one page.
(No, I do NOT mean use smaller print. Instead, condense the information.)

You can get some additional space by removing that OBJECTIVE section. (In the cover letter that goes along with your resume you can describe yourself as being ambition. You can also mention in the cover letter that you're seeking an internship.)

Remove all the address/phone information for the college. It's not needed in the resume and takes up valuable space.

Be briefer in describing what you did in jobs. Remove all the unnecessary descriptions you now have in the resume.

For example--

Did X, using Y, to Z (short, simple, to the point)

Is a $10/hr job worth it for a college graduate?

Yes it is, I would take it if the opportunity is there. From past experience, it's easier to find a job, and better employment while working. If your out of college, your young yet probably. Get hired, in a few years, you'll have pay raises, job advancement and promotion to maybe higher paying management positions. In this economy and day and age with bad employment, take what you can , even just for the experience. While working, you can always still search for other opportunities that intrest you, and at the same time your collecting a paycheck, maybe with some benifits.

I am a recent college graduate and I am trying to enter the SEO field. What is the best SEO platform that is out there right now?

"SEO Platform"...that's a bit of a tough one.  There are many packages you can buy/lease but they are usually quite expensive.  As a recent college grad, I'd have to ask how much you are able to spend monthly.  There are several tools you'll need (a quick google search will give you plenty of info on each):Keyword research tool:  I use Long Tail Platinum ($20/month)Keyword rank tracking: I use Pro Rank Tracker ($50/month)Domain Research tool: I use Majestic ($50/month)...there are "platforms" that will do all of that and more, and I've tried many of them but in the end I find myself going back to these tools as they do exactly what I need them to do for a good price.  The platforms you'll find (Raven tools, SEO Profiler, SERPWoo, Moz) are all good...but quite expensive and they don't seem to do as good of a job as the individual tools you work with and get used to.  In my opinion, that's the basics.  Then you have:Google Webmaster Tools (free)Google Analytics (free)Moz Tool bar (free)Varvy Tools (free)Then there are the additional costs you'll incur for things like content creation, graphic/video creation, etc, etc.  A lot of this can be bought with good results on http://Fiverr.com . Since I mentioned Fiverr, you won't spent 10 minutes on that site before you start seeing SEO gigs (20,000 links for $5).  Strong advice - don't buy any SEO gigs from Fiverr until you're well educated and know exactly what you're doing - most of those gigs will do  more harm than good.  As you learn and get some experience, you can better judge which gigs make sense and which don't.  Until then, just use Fiverr for things like graphics, video, etc, etc.  Hope this helps a bit...let me know if you need more info. I'm happy to help.
