I need an opinion on this color scheme as well as ideas for accent colors?
So we are moving into a new house with white tile flooring in the living room, looks like this: https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736... walls are also white. We have a custom-made wooden cabinet/table that holds a 75 gal turtle tank that is stained a deep, dark, jade like in the photo of this color palate: https://www.permachink.com/images/storie... we want that to go in the living room. We also love black shelves, we want black bookcases and a black entertainment unit for the TV to match. We also have a beige colored cat, and in order to make the inevitable shedding of cat hair less obvious, I was thinking about a beige colored couch like this one: https://www.wayfair.com/Klaussner-Furnit... And a beige large beige colored area rug. Would these colors look ok together? Should I add green curtains and accent pillows to tie in the turtle cabinet? Should I re-paint the walls? If so, what color? Or is this color scheme just hideous and I need to re-think?

Living rooms tend to function during the daytime, so the colours need to be good in daylight and can be quite stimulating. Bedrooms need to look good in electric light and be calming, ie conducive to sleeping. That is the theory, anyhow. I have always done them the same as it makes a small flat look larger.

You are right..the rule in decorating is 3 (or 5) ..3 items on a shelf in a grouping is a "set" and 3 colors is a color scheme. And yes, neon or very bright colors is very youthful, but muted or mature doesn't have to be boring. 1...what color is the carpet? that may have to dictate all the colors you chose. if it is tan or brown or a "neutral".. that's great. It's good to go to Home Depot and look at the paint chips and see what colors catch your eye. 2...Go to stores and try to choose what colors catch your eye in the way of bedding. that may help you chose colors. 3...yes, the other writer is correct...choose a theme. that's always fun. 4....try to stay away from "collections"...beanie babies, figurines..whatever.. But if you have shelving...better to display one big bold beautiful item than alot of little dust collector things.. 5...Don't worry about the furniture..you can go to a thrift shop and chose a dresser, shelf, desk headboard, whatever you need, even if they don't match, that's ok, because you can PAINT them all the same color and then they are cohesive! Thrift store furniture is not expensive, alot of the Salvation army shops have senior discount day, so take a parent or grandparent and get more of a discount. garage sales are great. And finally, using items in a way that is not intended can add interest and a focal point...example...using a folding screen as a headboard, or if you like antiques, using an old wooden door, or if you like today's styles of using metal or iron wall art, you could use that as a headboard, And Big Lots is my favorite store. check ebay for pink floyd items. Pick something pink floyd that you love and pull ideas from that. You can use colors from you inspiration, pattens (triangle rainbow) textures. Frame anything paper, old shirt, cover of a cd, get ideas from creative friends. Use anything that speaks or has great meaning from there songs, this will mean more that just looking awesome.
