Im packing for basic training..help!?

i am putting my bag together for basic training and my question is i bought multiple boxes of tampons, but the boxes take up too much space, can i take them out of the box and just put them in a big ziploc bag to save space?
also if any female that have gone thru basic training (especially at ft sill OK) any info can really help thanks!

What all are you allowed to bring to basic training?

you will get a branch specific list from your recruiter. This will be your first test ..follow the list. -

What should I take to Basic Training?

I've been told all kinds of things to bring and not bring. Then I am told that most of the stuff I am told to bring I shouldn't.

So In the end what will I need there? I understand that I'll get a cash card and go down to the PX to get a lot of stuff I need. However the time before I go to the PX is what I am concerned with.

Will I need to bring towels and a wash rag? Should I bring all my toiletries and razor (I've heard before that people have been made to throw all that stuff away)?

I know that they take some of the personal items that you take and just lock it up in your locker. So can/should I take my phone and keep it there? How about my iPod?

They give you the cash card, so should I just leave my debit and credit card at home? What should I keep in my wallet?

Should I take a combo lock or a key lock? I am going to Fort Benning for Basic and (I hear wear you go matters).

How about stuff to write my friends and family? Will I buy all that there or should I take it with me?

Also, do they issue you underwear?

The only thing I know for certain to take is a set a clothes other than what will be on my back.

How was basic training for you?

It was a while ago, early 90's. Fort Jackson is known as the land of the sand. It use to have both women and men training in what they called starships (barracks). They had male and female companies. So the men wouldn't get cussed out like they normally would in front of the women. You run every other day and do physical regimine on the other days with Sundays usually off. Sundays were used to clean up the barracks. Remember you have to have three meals a day, lights out by 10pm no lights on before 5am ( so you get your rest) you can only do so many push-ups and so many set-ups before your exhausted when they punish you. Try not to stand out. My drill seargents never knew my name till almost the last day of boot camp. It is a mind game. Three drill seargents per platoon, and they tag team you during the day so they don't get wore out. They lighten up as the weeks go along. The better shape you are in at the beginning the better off you will be so they don't run you into the ground. Get good running shoes and get good socks. Bring a small mini-pocket knife with scissors to cut ragged strings off of your uniform. bring some mole skin for blisters. Leave most things at home. Get off of the caffeine I had terrible headaches till I got use to drinking coffee. Get a lock with a key. They had us running upstairs to get stuff and we had to keep our lockers locked. We would run downstairs and then they would have us go get something else. The guys with combination locks had a hard time under a time constraint, and carry the key on your ID tags.
Good luck and enjoy it is not near as bad as it use to be and I was dissapointed that it wasn't harder.

What is basic training like at fort sill?

It varies from battery to battery or company to company. Each one has a different stress level. I wound up in a high stress company. Phone calls were very limited, mass punishment was used the entire cycle, going to to a new training phase meant absolutely nothing (we had red phase privileges throughout), we did not get to use sunglasses, gatornecks, or any high speed equipment. We weren't even allowed to use icy hot. I believe we recycled or chaptered about 20 people.

Other batteries and companies that were lower stress used individual punishment only when they reached white phase, some got their phones all weekend, there were a few that didn't even do the week in the field.

Its going to depend on where you wind up, but generally Ft. Sill is pretty easy. I only heard of one other company being as hard as ours. PT isn't really that bad. You will be very busy all of the time, and you will walk a lot. Just try not to injure yourself and you'll be fine.

As far as the actual post, Ft. Sill is horrible.

How do you get a cat to get along with another cat?

Since all cats have different personalities when you put two or more cats under the same roof there will almost always be some kind of conflict. When we first got our two cats, they were both from two separate houses. The one cat would always hide, whether it was under a table or behind the closet. The other cat was the complete opposite, always following everyone around, playing with everyone and craving attention. As you can already tell, the two cats had complete opposite personalities. After finally coaxing the shy cat out of hiding, we decided to bring in the other cat. However, this did not go well and resulted in endless hissing and fighting, until eventually the shy cat would run and hide again. After about a week of doing this we began to notice the things that were helping them get along and the things that were making it worse. Eventually they begun to get along and now they are inseparable!Although cats may take a while to adjust and get used to each other, here are some ways you can help them settle in:Do’sMake sure that the cat has plenty of space. Make sure that both of the cats have separated areas where they can access their food, water, litter trays and beds.Ensure that the time the two cats spend together is enjoyable. Use their favorite toys or treats to encourage positive behavior.Have them play together in a big cardboard box. It is rare that cats will not enjoy playing in a cardboard box, so open both ends so they can go in and out and put it on the floor so they can crawl in and play in it.Give each individual cat attention - make sure not to neglect a cat if there is a new addition to the family.Reward the cat when the desired behavior is shown and they are showing signs of getting along.Do not’sUse catnip- this can increase the aggression in some cats.Let the cats fight it out. They do not resolve their issues through conflict. If they do try to fight, break it up with a clap or a spray of water.Leave the two cats unattended until fully confident they will not fight.Be too rushed. Cats will take their time and being rushed can just make the situation worse.Good Luck. Hope your cats will begin to get along soon!

Army ocs at ft. Benning?

I hope you are encouraging your friend to work out :) It's easy! An Hourly "Drop and give me 50!" (Push Ups!) He'd actually be incredibly foolish if he needed anyone to encourage him at this point! The failure rate varies but is something like 20-25%. Not passing the PFT, showing a lack of leadership potential, not doing well on the tests of material taught etc are all reasons for washing out
The benefits are he'll commission a 2nd Lieutenant O-1 as opposed to being an E-1- E-3. More respect, more responsibility, better living conditions, more pay etc.
Calculate regular military compensation for various ranks and locations at the following link. Location makes a significant difference due to the housing allowance(BAH.) Single lower ranking enlisted guys live in the barracks and do not collect BAH:
http://www.defenselink.mil/militarypay/mpcalcs/Calculators/RMC.aspx
2nd Lt( Army, Air Force and Marines) = Ensign(Navy) = O-1.
1st Lt( Army, Air Force and Marines) = Lt JG(Navy) = O-2.
Captain( Army, Air Force and Marines)= Lt(Navy) = O-3.
Advancement to O-2 by about the 18th month.
Advancement to O-3 by about 39th month
So, yes it is definitely worth it.
