Coming Off Citalopram

When can I sleep again, using citalopram ?

Citalopram is used for moderate to severe depression. The side effects include insomnia, hyposomnia (sleeping too much) hallucinations and really really bad nightmares.

If you can't deal with the side affects, your best changing your meds to something milder. Keep taking it until you see your doctor then ask for a med change or to go off it. Don't mess about with it as stopping/starting bluntly can make it worse and upset your body.

How do i get Citalopram out of my system fast?

Yes, up to 24 hours before things balance back to normal (as once the drug is out of your system, you will still need time to find your normal balance again).

My opinion only:

I went through this, and it was well worth it. I would take the next two weeks off of work (or start tablets again when you can get two weeks to yourself). Yes, you will feel ill and weird and anxious and all sorts of things for the first two or perhaps three weeks, but after that, well things start to change. Now, on some days, I do actually even manage to get out of bed, and I even communicate with some people. :)

Citalopram 10mg is it a strong dose.?

I have also taken this particular anti-depressant. 10mg is generally the starting dose. There is no miracle cure, and they can't make you completely happy if there is something else at the root cause, but they are designed to take the edge off and help to put things into perspective a little better. Personally, I still had days when I felt rubbish, but they helped me to control my emotions better. I didnt cry at the drop of a hat anymore, and I didnt feel so frustrated and angry at the slightest thing. If you don't feel any better atall though, go back and they will probably double your dosage to 20mg. But whatever you do, don't stop taking them suddenly. The side effects are horrible if you do that! Good luck :-)

What are the withdraw symptoms of citalopram (celexa)?

I have recently stop taking celexa and have had dizzyness, a shocking taste and feel in my mouth also very sleepy. Are these normal symptoms? I was also on paxil and have stoped taking it for about two weeks. I stopped taking the celexa about 72 hours ago. How long will these symptoms last? I needed to stop taking this medication because my husband and I want to have a baby. How long will it be in my system. On the Paxil I could not get pragnet at all because It gave me long hard periods. We switched to the celexa thinking it might be safer but we read it can cause lung problems and desided it wasn't worth the risk. Is there any antianxiety medication I can take that will be safe during pragnacy? I have flash backs and nightmares also along with anxiety. They are the same symptoms people from war have.
thanks for any answers on this

Im on anti-depressants (Citalopram), and was wondering can I join the Army still?

no. you must be off the meds under doctor approval and function normally for 12 months before a waiver will be considered.

Feeling weird after taking Citalopram (Celexa). Advice?

Citalopram is a (mostly) safe SSRI used frequently. I don't know much about Vyvanse, but I do know that it is mainly used for ADD and ADHD. What concerns me is that your psychiatrist prescribed Celexa in the first place. Was this for anxiety? If so, anxiety is a common side effect of many medications used for ADD/ADHD. If it is for depression, I understand his/her reasoning.
As for your side effects, I took Celexa for about 3 months and felt almost no change in my mood or sensations even at the maximum dosage. BUT, SSRIs affect people differently an side effects vary greatly. When I was moved to Paxil, I experienced some of the same side effects your are experiencing. I described it to my doctor as feeling like I was in a dream. He told me the side effects would lessen with time and 2 weeks later he increased my dose. This caused a worsening in side effects that led to tunnel vision. I immediately stopped the medication and switched doctors. I am not saying for you to take the same route, but be careful with anything that alters hormones. Although medically necessary in some cases, a doctor has no way of knowing exactly how it s making you feel. I would discuss it with him/her and see what they think.
As for the beta blockers, I'm not sure your reasoning for wanting to take them. Beta blockers (or beta-adrenergic blocking agents) are used primarily for heart conditions such as high blood pressure, arrhythmia, congestive heart failure and other irregularities. Since beta blockers lessen the effects of epinephrine, which is released during stressful events, it has been used to treat the SYMPTOMS of anxiety. But, it has no long term benefit for anxiety (comparable to benzodiazepines without the addiction) and no indication of depression relief.
My advice would be to switch SSRIs until you find one that works for you. It may takes months, even years but once you find the right one, it will make a world of difference.

Stopping Citalopram cold turkey and restarting again- how long until withdrawal symptoms go away?! Please help?

I've been on the highest dose of Citalopram for the last couple of years, and I don't know what possessed me to do it, but a few weeks ago I stopped taking it cold turkey. Since then I have experienced nausea, unbearable headache, a feeling of disconnect, complete loss of appetite, shakes, dizzines, irritability, muscle pain, sudden and frequent crying, and overall a feeling of being "sick" or "not right". It is making it almost impossible to live my life. So, a few days ago I started Citalopram again. I took half a pill, the next day took a whole pilll, and the next day took a whole pill again. Today, I will start my regular dosage of a pill and a half. My question is, are all of hte symptoms above likely from withdrawal? And if so, now that I'm taking Citalopram again, how long will they take to go away? I can't deal with this much longer...it feels like I'm slowly dying, or that I'm living in a state no one should have to live in for an extended period of time, and it feels like it will never stop. Please, help!
