Commercial/print Modeling Help Comp Cards

How do I start a career in modelling in Mumbai India?

Trust me , if you are good enough you don't even need a portfolio. My friends have got a call from big ad agencies ( genuine, FMCG) as they came across his OLX, or other social sites profiles. . You can take some good photographs though, a freelancer photographer would be fine. But here is my suggestion, are you sure about it? Is it your passion or just  fad, please make yourself clear about it before deciding to skip your education line. Trust me , this life might be a very struggling one , frustrating when you do not get what you have wanted. And are you clear where you want to be? Become an actor, or any other option when you get old. ? I mean , before deciding anything please just go through your whole future once and come back and decide. Don't do it because friends and relatives told you, they are not going to live your life, do it because you want it. Take some good photographs . These days digital would also do. Approach ad or marketing agencies. You can work part time on clicking photos from Ecommerce companies , for ads. etc.

How do I apply for commercial modeling at a department store?

Okay slow down there deary! The first step to modeling is getting with a agency. They will get your face out there and get you to castings. But anyone in the industry knows that it takes time. Once your with a agency, you will have to begin to put your portfolio together. Once that's started your agency will print you cards to give out when on castings. The cards have pictures of you on them, your stats, the agency address and the likes. And your career will slowly progress from there. I just started modeling in January, so if you want tips or advice or something like that email me at taylorcornwell@yahoo.com
Good luck!

I'm 5"8. Can I pursue my career in modelling?

It's true that most fashion models have to be 5'9 or above. If you're a female, here's my suggestion. It's just like being a driver. We're not all Formula racers, but we all drive successfully on different roads. Because you're not 5'9, doesn't mean you can't pursue print modeling, or jewelry, swimsuit, glamor, commercial, lifestyle, etc. Everyone thinks they should be a runway model. Here's the fact. Runway pays on average $150 per show. If you were a catalog model, you'd make anywhere from $500 -$3500 depending on the market you're in. Other suggestions: Don't try for a market you're not suitable for. If you don't fit the "fashion stats" don't try to be a fashion model. If you're considered plus size, embrace it and take photos that accentuate the best of you, and you will find more success.Think of modeling as a business. The business of you. Everything you do is to benefit you as a business, from the clothes you buy, to your gym membership, the foods you eat, etc. You have to invest in yourself to help yourself grow. Don't be cheap about getting professional photos for your portfolio. Seek out the best photographers and pay whatever their rates are to get yourself the best photos. Photos are everything. If you have talent, you will make the money you spent on the photoshoot, right back on your first job with any decent agency. Make yourself some business cards, zed cards, comp cards, get a solid portfolio together, and send them out to agencies. Don't be exclusive unless you're with a big agency that has agreed to take you under their wings and develop you as a brand.Good luck!

What does casting mean in modeling?

A casting is a visual interview where the model must present his or herself infront of a client or casting director.  Even if a client has seen your pictures they still meet in person to be sure that the pictures are a recent reperesentation of how you currently look and to make sure you skin condition etc. is the same.  Also they may want to see you walk or pose as well.  There may be time that the casting is with the photographer present to make sure that he is able to work with you.   There are no rule to a casting.  It could be a small thing where there is only two or three models or it could be complete frantic such as in New York City when they are casting for the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week (Although it will no longer carry that name anylonger) when the models are running around attending what seems like endless casting with undreseds of other models.  You could end up waiting for an hour to see someone for just 4 minutes.    You get to the location for casting and sign in.  You will wait in a room with 20 other models until its your turn.  You walk in where the client is and they ask you a some  simple rutine questions.  They will most likely take your picture or keep your comp cards and look  through your portfolio.  If it is for runway, they will ask you to walk for them, or perform a quick couple of poses.  Finally, you will say good-bye.  They almost never give a decision right away  unless you are Gigi Hadid like here below.

Modeling Portfolio Advice! HELP!?

Matte vs Gloss: Depends on personal style.
Gloss: reflects more light, but colors pop out more.
In my opinion, matte looks a bit more classy because you get less reflections.

Bleed vs Non-Bleed:
Bleed: Final image is slightly cropped, as such the whole page is covered by the photo.
Non-bleed: Image is fitted in the exact boundaries specified. As a result, it is possible that after cutting a thin bit of whitespace remains at the side of the picture.

Printing size: I would go for A4 (or Letter as US equivalent). Large enough to make an impression, small enough to carry around in a regular binder.

Printing yourself gives you more control on the output, it also gives you more possibilities to try and retry. Home printing is more expensive per print, and a good photo printer is a large up-front cost as well.

I wanted to act in TV commercials, and also I want to make my twin baby girls act in TV commercials for baby ads. How do I know about it or go about doing it?

You need to sign with a talent agency. It will entail an expenditure for photographs to make up a “head-sheet,” a sort of CV or resume that features photos, vital statistics and talents, plus work history and drama education. Talk to the agency first before you go to the expense of photography. It’s best if you ask a friend who is working to refer you to his or her agent since it’s sometimes difficult to get accepted.

Is stewart talent a picky modeling agency?

The top agencies in Chicago are Ford, Elite and BMG. Stewart is listed on models.com but they have a notice that the agency has not been verified by models.com. That could mean nobody has had any dealings with them, but could also mean that they charge you for things you shouldn't have to pay - it's hard to tell.

Remember, you should never pay even $1 to get into modeling. An agency invests in you. If they sign you, they will pay for the photographer for your portfolio. You should never pay for competitions, classes, representation, website listings, comp cards or anything else. A legitimate agency makes money by booking you on jobs and taking a % of your earnings - not charging you money upfront
