Comparison between beowulf the movie and the book?
Glad to. Need a little info first though. What version did you read? For example, did you study it in Old English or a translated version? If the latter, who was the translator? Believe it or not, it makes a HUGE difference. Are you doing a compare and contrast type of essay where you're writing about the similarities and the differences? What do you have so far?
What is the ending to the 2007 Beowulf movie?
You saw almost the whole movie then. After Beowulf rips the dragon's heart out, they both fall to the sandy shore below the castle. The dragon turns into a man as it dies and then disappears into the sea. Beowulf dies, and I think he has a conversation with Wiglaf or what ever his friends name it, it escapes me at this moment. They put Beowulf's body on a funeral boat and send him out to sea, setting the boat on fire I think as it passes a certain point. You can see Grendel's mother kissing Beowulf's body as it sails off. I think she then tries to tempt Wiglaf (or whatever his name it) with the mead horn as the movie ends. It was a horrible perversion of the original story and has very few similarities to what actually happens in the original.

Beowulf is an epic hero... wiglaf is not. They both slay the dragon.

Beowulf goes through the heroic cycle as does just about every other hero regardless of time and culture. In modern literature, for example, compare him to Harry Potter. Both are called to adventure, Beowulf to kill Grendel and his mother, Harry to kill Voldemort. Both have to go through preparation, Beowulf decides to kill Grendel barehanded, Harry trains through Hogwarts. Both undergo ordeals and finally have to face their foes to complete their quest. Both return to their world with new power and/or wisdom.You can even see this hero quest played out in everyday life. Soldiers joining the armed services. Professionals training for their careers. the movie is just too animated and fake , and the book has so much imagery and depth that it dosent compare to the movie . I think you'll like the book I was forced to read it in middle school and again my senior year and it was fairly good ..
