Constant Cough In Toddler

Help with non stop coughing?

I have a cold with a really bad cough. Sometimes, in school, I cough and can't stop for about 5/10 minutes. I try to stop coughing, but I can't. I usually can control it. But ever since yesterday, where I spend 30 minutes coughing non stop, I can't control it. I'll get a drink of water, but that won't stop. I would go to the nurse, but all they will do is give me cough drops. The next time I get one of these 'coughing sprees' what should I do so they won't last as long.

What to do about rattling sound in toddlers chest?

my 16 month old had a nasty cold all last week with constant runny nose and dry cough, that turned into a wet cough, we went to the doc last thursday and she gave me an antibiotic because he coughed up some mucus and told me to give him breathing treatments every 6 hours. well here it is tuesday and he finish his antibiotic yesterday and he still has a rattling sound in his chest faint when he breaths but i can feel it when i put my hand on his chest, and you can really hear it after a breaking treatment. i would normally take him to the doc again but she is on vacation this week. My question is should i just wait a few more days to see if it clears up on its own or call and speak with the nurse practitioner? He is acting fine, running around playing normally and no fever.

He was on a 5 day antibiotic and breathing treatments every 6 hours for 2 weeks. I was also told to cup my hand and pat his back frequently which i do as often as i can.

Thank you

16 month old CAN'T stop coughing. Throwing up because of it! What can I do to help?

not sure what to do about the cough, but you HAVE to get some fluids in her or it will be an emergency situation. When my son got to that point I was using a medication syringe to squirt pedialyte or gatorade a tablespoon at a time into his mouth. I also got pedialyte popsicles and mushed them up into a slush. I think l literally made him scream so I could pop a spoonful of the slush into his mouth. He would stop screaming and smack his lips, then start screaming again...so I popped another spoonful of slush in. I generally do not advocate forcing children to eat or drink, but in his case it WAS needed as he had not had a wet diaper in like 6-8 hours.

I think what you need to do is to call your regular pediatrician's emergency number and ask what you can give her. I don't think it is the cough that is necessarily causing her to vomit. In my son's case it was the snot dripping down the back of his throat gagging him...the poor kid was sticking his fingers down his throat trying to pull the gunk out. He was almost 2 at the time, so the doctor told me to give him robitussin and gave me a dosage. you can tell your family doc what the ER doc said was wrong with her...
