Why did education increase during the industrial revolution and examples?

What do feminists want? What's the problem?
So I responded to this question http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20130413230628AAHMucQ and I don't mean to sound ignorant, but what exactly do feminists want? I know they want equality, but in the United States only the douchy guys look down on women and have a masoganistic attitude. I understand in places like Iran and the third world and such women need equality, and I'm 100% for that, but in the US guys are obligated to pay for dinner and wedding rings have to be 3 months' salary, and guys are expected to treat women like princesses and provide for them and usually women get half a man's stuff in a divorce. I know men categorize women for their looks but generally women categorize men by the amount of money they make AND their looks. I don't mean to come off ignorant, but how exactly are women being oppressed in this society? I'm 17 and I'm just trying to learn more about the world here.
Hwat were some of your thesis topic ideas when writing a research paper about womens studies?
I am in an english 1 class in college, and i feel im very inclined to probably getting a major in womens studies. This is why i decided to write my research paper on an issue that will be relevant in a women studies major. Any ideas for my paper? i just need to get my brain going with some of your opinions.
