Contacts Made My Eye Red And Swollen

Why do my contacts burn my eyes?

This is very hard to judge from a Quora question, plus I don’t really understand what your question is. It is advisable to discuss these problems with your optometrist and/or ophtalmologist, because they can also take a look. There are many possible causes, from the lens not fitting well, to you being oversensitive to the liquid you use with it…Does your eye burn after wearing the contact lens all day? That might be caused by dryness. Best use tear-replacement eye drops throughout the day, that should make it better. Or you can only deal with your lens for a limited amount of time, that is also possible. In case you meant immediate burn, my question is, are you just starting to wear it? Then your eyes still might take time to get used to it. Other possible reasons are dirt on the lens, which stings your eye as soon as it touches. Try to see if there are crumbs on it, or maybe fiber from a towel. Those things can hurt a lot. Other things are wrong way of putting them in (air bubbles), or soap remainders from cleaning it (you should clean them every day after wear), or oversensitivity to the solution you use. You could try isotonic salt solution to rinse them thoroughly, that usually prevents some irritation. You could use moisturising eye drops before putting them in, that can also help. Also, it might help to take special care in washing and drying your hands before handling it, that way you prevent your lenses from accumulating stuff that should not get into your eye.The last thing I can think of is a superficial corneal lesion, which can happen if you are still getting used to your lens, or excessive rubbing while you have it in (especially if it’s a hard one). The only way to solve this is not wearing the lens for a few days, and use plenty of tear replacement drops to help it heal. If the eye keeps being red and irritated all day despite not wearing the lens, you should consult an eye doctor because you might have gotten an infection. And that can get very serious if left untreated. As you can see, there are a lot of possibilities of what could be the problem, therefore let me repeat again, consult the professionals that help you on this. Strangers on Quora are not going to solve it for you.

Slept with contacts in, left eye is swollen, red and keeps producing tears?

these offices that "can't" get cases like this in drive me crazy. you need to be seen quickly. at our office we FIT them in. we will MAKE room on the schedule for a painful, red eye to be seen immediately. its called "triage" and its one of my pet peeves when i hear patients say their normal doc/eye doc "can't see them until tomorrow". hogwash. they aint tryin' hard enough.

light sensitivity is a bad sign. it implies internal inflammation. and of course the big risk in someone who slept in contacts & has a painful red eye is microbial keratitis. it'd be bad to wait ANOTHER day if thats what you have. did your mom tell them you were light sensitive!!??

so now u know my opinion: you need to be seen asap. apparently your doc feels differently.

ok so what to do before your appt to feel better: OTC artificial tears would help some. yes cold compress (not hot) would probably help some. ibuprofen or tylenol for the pain.

good luck! hope its not serious. wish u could "get in" sooner.

Semen and eye contact?

Eye swollen for 4 months? Is it corneal edema from wearing contacts too long? Not a chalazion or stye?

About a year ago, I noticed some swelling in my left eye
I ignored it for a while until one morning I woke up and it was extremely painful and red
I went to my eye doctor and he said I had a corneal abrasion and should go away soon
After a month, my eye was still swollen and turned red whenever I tried to put my contact in
I went back to my doctor, and he couldn't figure out what was wrong
It wasn't a bump, my whole eyelid was swollen so that my eye looked half closed
The swelling pushed down on my contacts, causing them to sit halfway on my eye and halfway on the white part, causing pressure and the redness
It was only my left eye that was swollen
My doctor thought maybe it was allergies from eye makeup or just wearing my contacts too long
I did hot compresses and used some special eye drops, and after 4 long months, the swelling finally went down

About 6 months after this, I went on a trip to Boston and due to a string of all-nighters, I didn't take out my contacts for 4 nights in a row (which I know is really really bad for my eyes)
I have hard rigid gas-permeable lenses in a very very high degree (my eyesight is around 20/1000) which shouldn't be worn for at most 12-hours a day
Now my left eyelid is swollen in the same way as a year ago again

Does anyone know what I can do to make the swelling go away faster? What is happening to my eye? Is it corneal edema from wearing contacts too long? If it is, why is only in my left eye?
My eye doctor still can't figure out these questions and hot compresses don't seem to be doing anything

Why do my eyes turn red and swell after wearing contacts?

you may have a corneal ulcer.

i had been wearing contacts for about two and a half years and within the past six months my eyes had been turning red/pink, felt scratchy, were swollen when i woke up in the morning (after i had taken the contacts out the night before), and were very sensitive to light. so, recently (within the past month) i went to the eye doctor to get it checked out. they said i had corneal ulcers from lack of oxygen. they gave me some eye drops and now switched my contact lens brand.

now my eyes are back to normal!

Why does my eye tear when I remove my contact lenses?

Just one eye?  or both eyes.   When you manipulate or irritate your eye,  (by putting your fingers in your eye) the natural response of the eye is to tear.  It attempts to lubricate the surface and wash away any irritants.

Eye swollen, irritated, red, and lots of eye boogers?

My eye has been bothering me all day, it has been dry all day. I itched it infrequently, but towards the end of the day i started itching it more. It got to the point where my eyes are completely red and irritated. I decided to look for some eyedrops to help with the itching. The only type i could find was visine eye drops made for contacts. I assumed it would be fine to put in my eye, so I did. I didn t notice an immediate result, but about 15 minutes later my eye was swollen and was forming these weird eye boogers that stayed in the creases of my eyes. My eye is in pain at the moment, and the boogers wont go away, even though I wipe them away with tissues. I can t stop blinking, and my eye is very irritated. Not sure what it is, or what i should do.

Left eye almost swollen shut, lots of discharge?

Well, yesterday my eye was leaking a lot of watery discharge, as well as sometimes some really sticky yellowish discharge. Last night, I noticed it was a little swollen, and when I woke up, it is swollen to the point where I can barely open it! The eye itself is quite red as well. I do wear contacts, but I did not wear them yesterday. I would contact an Eye doctor, but they're closed today for the 4th. Also, could this have anything to do with the abdominal cramps/dizziness I've been having for 2 days?
