Convicted Felon And Girlfriend

Can a convicted felon stay in the same home with someone who owns a gun?

I am not a felon, but I had an outstanding felony charge of concealed carry of a deadly weapon in DE for two weeks in 2011. The charge was busted to concealed carry of a deadly instrument which is a misdemeanor, to which I pleaded guilty. During this time and the following year, during which I was on probation, I was prohibited from holding a firearm. My probation officer asked me if there were firearms in my house. I said yes, my wife has several. He said, lock them in the trunk of her car and put the key in her purse where you cannot get to it and I will trust that you will not get at them. It worked for me.A convicted felon can hold a potato gun or a flare gun legally. Either of them can kill you just as dead as a firearm. As long as the felon is using the object in accordance with its purpose and lawfully, he is OK. However, if he were to intimidate someone with it, it instantly becomes a firearm in the eyes of the law and he picks up felonies for aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a felon. A twofer.

What do I do now that I know my boyfriend is a convicted felon?

David Friedman is right.  Not all convicted felons are violent.  I would say that most are just normal everyday people.  The fact he is hiding it from you may only mean he is very embarrassed and is afraid of what you might think of him you found out.  Imagine that.If you are concerned, pay a few extra bucks and do a more comprehensive background check.  I would recommend that in most situations, anyways.Give him a chance to explain himself.  Don't confront him!  For goodness sake, be nice.  I have met plenty of violent people without felony records because they are smarter then the justice system. Maybe he is a good guy that was to dumb to be a criminal but smart enough to change his life around.

Is it wrong to date someone who is a convicted felon?

I met this guy that I really like, but one thing that is bad about him is that he shot his ex-girlfriend. He said she was very evil and treated him bad. He said I am different and much more calm than she was. He also said I am very understanding and submissive, which he likes. My friends are warning me to stay away from him, but I really like him. He went to jail for a few months for a DUI because he was hanging out at the bar with his old friend. He has never asked me for a dime or anything. He just totally wants my companionship and love. I am college educated, 28 years old and I work as a Financial Analyst for a firm. Do you think it is wrong for me to date him?

Can I visit Canada if I have prior felony convictions from the U.S.?

It depends. You can find some information here (start at the top as that is an official GoC website). I can’t be more specific as it depends on what you did and when you did it.http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/inadmissibility/conviction.aspEntering Canada with a FelonyCrimes That Will Make You Inadmissable to CanadaHow to Travel to Canada with a Felony ChargeEntering Canada With Criminal Charges and Convictions

My boyfriends a felon, but if my name is on the lease, can he live w/ me in an apartment thats gov't based?

Judi gave you a good answer for normal apartment housing. Since you said it was gov't based, I am going to guess that you are talking more of a housing authority type apartment complex. When dealing with the housing authority in my area, you have to be married in order to get the other person's name on the lease. They will not put a boyfriend/girlfriend's name on the lease. They will also not allow convicted felons to reside on their property. Their main purpose is to provide affordable housing to lower income people while trying to maintain a suitable living environment for its tenants. I.E. keeping the trouble makers at bay. If you do allow him to live in your apartment and housing authority finds out, then you, your boyfriend, and your children will be finding another place to live. They will evict you from that apartment and will not allow you to get another apartment through the housing authority. You may want to reconsider on letting him stay with you. Good luck on whatever you decide.
