Convoy Security Forces

Do MP's or Security Forces do convoys?

Don't know about the Air Force, but as for the Army, MP is the only job I am aware of in which a female can be a gunner on a truck. Whether or not you get to do that depends on several factors, including your rank/position at the time of deployment. There's no guarantee you'd be assigned to convoy duty even if you go, but assuming you are, here's the typical truck assignments: Privates will start off as drivers. The gunner will usually be a specialist or a corporal. The truck commander will be an NCO. If your truck has dismounts (people who get out of the vehicle if the situation calls for it), their ranks can vary, but they will typically be people with mid-level experience.

Now, all this being said, my experience was in Iraq. If you go, you will likely go to Afghanistan, and they may do thiings differently there. Also, individual units sometimes do things a bit differently. What I've outlined above has been typical for us.

Hope this helps somewhat.

How much combat do Air Force Security Forces see?

lol... 6 months on and 6 months off huh??? didnt know the air force deploys like special forces troops do. You might see some action on your computer screen while being a fobbit sitting in a safe office looking at images from a remote controlled plane. That's why the Air Force gets made fun of.

"An Army grunt sitting in a foxhole, eating MREs and wearing 50lbs of gear after having marched 12 miles, says: "This sucks."

A Navy seaman sitting on his 5' X 2' bunk, in a closet-sized room smelling of oil and rolling from the waves, which he shares with 6 other men, after not having seen the sky for 30 days says: "this really sucks".

A marine, doing push-ups in the mud during a downpour, after an 18 mile march with 60 lbs of gear, says: "I love the way this sucks, oorah!"

The special forces green beret crawling through a leech-infested swamp, eating nothing but bugs and tree bark for 6 days, sneaking around past armed terrorists, says: "I wish this could suck some more!"

An Air Force pilot sitting in an easy chair in an air conditioned hotel, holding a remote control, says: "no cable? this sucks!"

Pros and Cons of Security Forces Air Force...?

It depends what squadron you are in and what base. If your stationed somewhere that has nukes you will deploy little to none. You will a lot of "law enforcement" like guarding nukes, checking IDs, handing out speeding tickets. Now, if your in the 820th squadron (volunteer for this) then you will deploy a lot more. In this case you will guard aircraft, do convoy and foot patrols. You might do these jobs with Army MPs.

Pros- if you want excitement join:

820th- more combat oriented and deploy a lot
Phoenix Raven- guard aircraft all over the world
EST- equivqlent to SWAT

Also:

Get airborne qualified
Attend ranger school
Attend sniper school
Attend air assault school
Attend pathfinder school

Cons:

If you don't like deploying to war zone then bummer and long a** hours

Would it be better to be apart of the USAF security forces or the military police in the US army?

I was in USAF Security Police/Security Forces from 1986 until 2004, as both an enlisted member (‘86–’98) and as an officer (‘99–’04). I can’t speak from experience about Army MPs. However, from what I gather, there is some overlap between the two fields, but they also have some radical differences. The overlap: Both perform basic law enforcement duties on installations, and both perform some version of convoy security. Also, USAF SF personnel are assigned to defend air bases from ground assaults. In that role, USAF SF undergo training in small unit tactics and weapons that comes straight out of Army infantry manuals. The major differences:The vast majority - probably 70% or more - of USAF SF personnel perform security duties for expensive and/or classified and/or dangerous resources - especially for two-thirds of the nuclear triad: bombers and ICBMs.Outside of some experimental systems in the 50s, the Army doesn’t have nukes. Instead, MPs have run prisoner-of-war camps (I believe as a matter of doctrine) when necessary. Some USAF SF troops have participated in that mission, but it’s not a routine part of the career field. So which would be better? I think over all the USAF will treat you better than the Army, but both specialties have their challenges. Boredom is one. There will also be a certain mixture of derision and trepidation from the rest of the service - just as there is between citizens and civilian cops. Also, the SF career field is generally stricter with its own troops than many other USAF specialties. (I suspect MPs are the same way, but I can’t say from experience). Why? Because in order to have credibility as an enforcement entity, an enforcement agency’s own house must be in order - and because it has a large concentration of young, single males with badges, guns, berets, and 4x4s who are suffering from boredom and testosterone poisoning!

What to expect in Air Force Security Forces?

I am 17 years old and I am a senior and will graduate class of 2011 out of high school. My ultimate goal is to become a civilian police officer. So to start I was told by my neighbor who is ex Army to just be an Air force cop and then get out and become a local cop, he said because of better living and better treatment than in other branch or something to that nature. I have done a little research but still need more information about the job, for example I would really like to do base patrols in a car how are my chances of doing that? What will Air force BMT be like? Also SF tech school? Will this be a great choice for me and do my goals match it? My last question is, when deployed do you just patrol the base or do convoy security? Also when i was 16 i tried to talk to a recruiter but he just gave me a little bit of information because he said he couldnt say much because I wasn't 17 yet so im looking for answers here from people in SF or know much about SF

Does every Seabee do convoy security element?

Seabees are navy engineers they build ****, they don't do convoy security

Questions about air force security forces?

Atually Security Forces is the Air Forces infantry, It's even in their doctrine... Don't go answering questions if you don't know the answers.

Your social life will be fine, Cops know how to party. It has the most potential (security forces) for having a sucky time, but you can also have a blast.

You will prob write some tickets, and guard a plane while stateside, tho I did nuclear convoys, flew in helis providing suppport, and delt with russian inspector teams when I was a young airmen couple years back. So there are some fun things you can get into.

Deployed the top three jobs for SF while deployed are
Air Base Defense which seperates into, Internal (being a cop on a fob/main base which IMO sucks, but never have had to do it so I'm happy.)
Guarding a plane, watching a gate, or being internal QRF (quick reaction force)
And finally convoys/TSE (tatical security Element) for people.

I have had some fun jobs in my past deployments as SF, I've worked with the Army, doing out side the wire missions/patrols, done some named and some unnamed opperations in Iraq joint tasked with Army, Special ops, Marines, and Air Force

I have guarded generals on PSD missions, wearing civis, carry a concealed weapon and driving armored suburbans and SUVs

I have done Quick Reaction Force

and on 2 missions I did Air Assault in army black hawks (but my whole squad was Air Force).

All in all Security Forces has lots of CRAP deals with the most Bull for any Air Force career, but at same time asside from special ops (which we are not, tho some units get to be a partial spec op unit)we are the most demanding and versitile job, we can be cops, security guards, or body guards. Can sit in front of a nuke one year, and be flying in black hawks the next. Some of my supervisors have been reaction forces in firefights where the history books don't mention Air Force participating in, simply because we get Joint Taskings, and we are certified to do anything that Army and Marine infantry can do, so when a battle space commander needs 1-2 extra bodies in the big picture for operations, they draw from Air Force SF, we are the most versitile career out there, and the crappiest.

Do Air Force security forces get deployed? Do they do patrols or only stand guard on the bases?

Russell you aren an idiot and clearly have no idea on what you're talking about.

RUSSELL SAID: PJ's do HOOAH stuff as was mentioned above is somewhat of a myth. If you want to join the Air Force but do something other than eat Burger King then become a JTAC/TACP. Look it up. They are the only Air Force personnel that earn their money while deployed through sweat and blood. "

Pararescue, Combat Control, TACP and Combat Weather are the ONLY ground combat arms AFSCs in the Air Force. 95% of your TACPs are NOT Special Operations .. they are conventional attached to regular Army infantry (as you claim to be).

Pararescue, Combat Control, SOF TACPs, and SOWT are far above your level of training and understanding (clearly by your obviously stupid comment).

I suggest you education yourself a little more before you open that c**k holster of yours, esp. when you want to insinuate PJs haven't lost their lives trying to protect little idiots with minimal training, like yourself for instance, in this war.

When you have the balls to do something more than conventional military then perhaps you'll have a little more knowledge into the Special Operations world. Somehow, I doubt that day will come for you.

As for Security Forces, they are not a combat arms AFSC .. however, due to the need for bodies they are running convoy security as are other airmen that are not involved in combat arms. Much like the Army is using soft skill MOSes to run convoys.

Perhaps if you weren't too busy thinking so highly of your unaccomplished self, you'd know a little more than you do.

You have yourself a good day, cupcake.
