Cost Of Exhaust Flex Pipe Replacement

Can I use flex pipe to fix exhaust?

My exhaust has completely disconnected at the resonator. My question can
I cut off the entire resonator and replace it with flex pipe with that solve the leak and the noise issue?

How much to replace a flex pipe?

Tire shops do not know squat about mufflers and exhaust systems, find a locally owned muffler shop (NOT A CHAIN STORE!) where they do nothing but replace and repair exhaust systems day after day and you will find people who understand exhaust work and have the proper tools and skills to actually cut out the bad flex pipe and weld in a replacement section and they will most likely be able to accomplish this for somewhere between $120 and $180.
FYI My own personal beater van is headed for just such a local shop today with a huge hole in the top of the muffler - could I replace it? Yes, but I choose to let the specialists do their very efficient job on things like exhaust work and tire replacement while I concentrate on doing tune ups and driveability and electrical repairs which are my specialty.

Cost of exhaust flex pipe replacement?

I took my Hyundai Elantra 2006 to a shop for the NY state inspection, but they said I won't pass unless I replace flex pipe. The mechanic wants $225 for changing it (parts and labor). I realize it is more expensive than if I could buy the part and change it on my own, but since I know little about such kind of repairs, I wonder, is this price reasonable for what an auto shop can charge in NY (or elsewhere), or is it a blunt rip off?

Any of you guys who are mechanics, I would appreciate your opinion. Thanks.

Cost for replacing an exhaust pipe?

Hmmm? I have an '85 Toyota Camry. I just purchased the whole exhaust pipe. (bout 6 feet long) I bought it online & had it shipped to me. Cost me bout...$100...if my mind serves me correctly. ;)
I did the job myself. ;)

My car, AFTER replacing the MUFFLER, (did this MYSELF 2 & saved on labor! WooT!) was SOOOO loud still that my kids can hear me as I pulled into the complex...AROUND the CORNER getting home! And we live ALL the way in the BACK! LMAO
Now that I have replaced the "Exhaust Pipe"...I can sneak up on my babies & they dont know when I am here til I walk through the door. Hehehehehehe

So yea...the daughter of the "Mechanic" (Now & Again) is not correct in saying that it is not JUST the Exhaust Pipe but IS the muffler as well. (though, you COULD still need to replace the muffler) Without actually looking at it, it is really hard to say for sure.

The exhaust pipe can be pretty expensive. Just like anything else though...shop around for the best price. ;)
Will you be doing the job yourself? I do ALL my own work...with the exception of anything "ELECTRICAL"! YIKES! Cant quite grasp THAT aspect. UGH

GOOD LUCK TO YA!

How much does it cost to repair an exhaust leak?

I've been patching them and making all kinds of crazy repairs on them for 40 plus years. Usually it will be expensive at a shop because often the original systems are welded together and more than one piece have to be replaced. There’s stuff at Auto-Zone that’s really good. I take aluminum broiler foil ( the thick stuff) and coat it with the chemical, double it over, wrap it around the leak, and wrap thin wire around that. It’s kind of fun, like playing with mud or clay. wear thick plastic or rubber gloves. It’s very difficult to get off your fingers. Sometimes you have to redo it later, but it’s a very cheap way to do it. I’ve also used furnace cement and the foil. It dries more brittle than the regular muffler patch, and is more subject to cracking, but it’s also much cheaper. I also use various metal adaptors from the auto store if a pipe breaks to put it back together.

Is it bad to drive around with a bad exhaust flex pipe?

i have a 2002 Hyundai Accent and it has been driving/sounding really loud lately... so i brought it to the shop and he called me to tell me that the diagnosis is that it is the exhaust flex pipe that is causing the loud engine while driving... So it needs to be repaired (replaced?) and its going to cost 300 dollars for parts and labor... My question is this... Is this a repair I can do without or is this something that could cause further damage to my car if I neglect.... What could happen if I don't fix the exhaust flex pipe? Also, does 300 dollars total sound like a fair price for this fix? Thank you so much...

Flex Pipe Repair costs?

You can get replacement pipes for that vehicle for $60 and have it in by a decent shop in an hour. And, why in the world would it have anything to do with cats or O2 sensors? You must be calling every crook in town. Dealers are probably the biggest.

My vehicle has a cracked exhaust pipe. How much will it cost to get repaired?

Depends on the extent of the crack, where it’s located, what kind of exhaust system material you have and more.Any competent exhaust shop can weld a simple crack, and I estimate it will roughly cost between $75-$100.The bigger problem is to determine why it cracked and to prevent it from happening again. You will want them to examine all of the hangars and bolts, to make sure the system is secure and able to be isolated from vibration.

What is straight pipe exhaust?

A straight pipe exhaust is just a pipe that starts from the header.Usually built for racing engines, these exhaust systems do not hold any boundaries on gas flow. It is just a straight pipe that starting from the header and goes straight to the air without a muffler or catalytic converter.Employing a straight pipe exhaust can provide your vehicle some extra power and will make it noisier. You need to think about emissions laws and noise laws if you want to install this pipe on your car. That’s why they are not used in newer cars as it can exceed its emissions.Advantages:main reason most car enthusiasts use this exhaust system is its high-performance. These systems help to reduce back pressure, thereby providing more power gains and better fuel economy to most of the cars. However, be careful when selecting the size of the pipe as it greatly affects the torque and horsepower. In addition, these pipe exhaust systems can be dressed and extended up with the help of chrome fittings to provide a great look as well.Disadvantage :These systems have many benefits yet they lack in flexibility. The main drawback of these exhaust systems is the cost, as you need to tune your vehicle according to them. In case you didn’t get the appropriate pipe size, it may make your car lose piles of low-end torque. In addition, by employing these straight pipes in your car will produce loud sound levels that might put you in trouble. So, car fanatics mainly use these straight pipe systems.

How much to replace a front flex pipe on a 2002 Hyundai Elantra GLS?

Unfortunately that is a very expensive part to replace because the manufacturer makes that flex pipe a part of a system. The system is comprised of the exhaust down pipe, the catalytic converter, That piece of flex pipe and the flange. You can purchase the system from a local parts store for about half that price and pay a garage to install it for you because any mechanic can replace it. You can also go to an exhaust shop and have a new piece of flex pipe welded in to save more money if you want. Most exhaust shops will charge around $200.00 to weld in a new flex pipe for you. If you can weld and have the ability to do it yourself you can buy a piece of flex pipe for around $50.00 and the gaskets needed for about $20.00 and save even more money. Hope I have been helpful. And to Kelly_F_ they are not talking about the axle shafts. It is a part of the exhaust system as I stated.
