Coughing A Lot What Do I Have

My mom is coughing a lot. What do I do?

I am not a doctor. My mother had a similar problem. Coughing lots, breathless at small activities and antibiotics barely helped. Turns out she had a chest infection and had a small amount of fluid in her lungs. Take her to a hospital and ask for an xray of her chest.

Until then, hot water, with lemon in it and a squeeze of honey should help to soothe her throat and settle her stomach and make sure she doesn't lie down flat, she should lie raised on pillows as this eases the airways. Is she wheezy? If so, call the doctor, or take her to hospital. Don't rush there like a bat out of hell, but within a day or two at most.

I am coughing a lot....why?

Recently I have been couching a lot. not like hacking or constantly...but i'm always trying to clear my throat but it just doesnt clear. I have been drinking water but nothing seems to happen. I know for a fact i don't have a cold... more or less it feels like there's phlegm in my throat that i'm constantly trying to appease....like a hairball.

does anyone know why this might me and what i can do to help it.

i think something like this has happened before...but then it stopped feeling as though i had something in my throat.

it's not like i'm choking on something...just phelgym,,,but if i hack and spit...nothing comes out.

btw i am 17 yrs old...do not smoke.,..do not drink...and am on no prescriped drugs...and am not allegric to anything. just an FYI for relating to this question

My mom is coughing a lot???

by the way I'm 12 and my mom is 54 and she had bronchitis in December of 2007 and it went away in like 6 weeks and I had a cough the doc said it was posnasal drip and gave me medicine but I had it overall a month to 6 weeks. The bronchitis effect of the cough is coming back (the cough, not as bad though). Should we be worried? She's been coughing maybe for a week now but the bronchitis went away and she had a prescription for it but that went away long ago. And its like April almost its spring! I mean she can't have bronchitis with warm weather can she??? What does she have-she doesnt smoke nor has never smoked please help thanks! =)

Can u get a six pack from coughing alot?

LOL nope

Why am I coughing up blood with a cold?

The hypotheses are many:- The blood might just be from the stress the cough induces on the throat and some vessels may rupture and here come the blood works- You may have previous lung disease like Bronchiectasies. These often bleed spontaneously, but specially if cough occurs- You may have a “cavitational” Pneumonia. That is, a pneumonia caused by a bacteria that when it causes infection, some parts of the lung die - the lung parts die, but the vessels that supply them are still active. With cough, here come the blood works (although it is a different type of lung infection, it can be tuberculosis).- Since you give me no other details, I cannot rule out lung / bronchial cancer!Go se a doctor!! Is the blood is in large quantities get to your nearest ER.

You're probably getting sick.

Why do we start coughing after eating lot of sweets?

Sweets don't directly cause coughing. But there is a possible indirect reason. I'll make some assumptions about the sweets being dry sweets and the weather being warm or the heater is turned on in cold weather. Most sweets are sweetened with sugar. Only some are sweetened with jaggery, or honey, or with fruit juices. When you cook sugar, it can reach a point where it loses all moisture. In this state it is hydrophilic. Meaning, having a tendency to be wetted or is easily dissolved. Most dry sweet preparation does involve a lot of heating, this removing most of the moisture.Meaning, sweets tend to absorb moisture from surroundings.Every bite or serving of sweet starts absorbing moisture in its way down your throat and continues to use up more moisture during digestion. So, if you have a lot of sweets it will dry your mouth and throat even more. Salivary glands might not be able to supply sufficient moisture to your throat. Thus your throat might be irritated.Add hot or dry weather to this situation (or low humidity in heated indoors), and you have a body that is already deprived of moisture. So, where from will the moisture readily come to your throat's need? This is the most likely cause for your cough.Let me know how close to true I am.Cheers

Asthma - do you cough a lot with that?

Last year, I got a cold, then bronchitis and then a cough that lasted for nearly 5 months.

Just after Thanksgiving, I got a cold, then bronchitis and the cough has never stopped. I've seen 3 different doctors and the last one said that he wanted me evaluated for asthma if this cough doesn't clear up.

I was discussing this with my family and my mom reports that my late grandmother never coughed with asthma and my brother never coughs. Both had severe problems with asthma. My question is whether this doc is barking up the wrong tree? I'm just frustrated because this coughing is interfering in my life, big time. I can't even attend a class because I'm interrupting all the time with coughing. Quilting has become an effort.

I am otherwise healthy, but overweight, and have not smoked since 1991. Nobody else smokes around me either. Thanks! Any tips are appreciated.
