How is Praxis Business School's business analytics program?

I guess I am the apt person for answering this question having completed about 8 months of this course. I will be sharing my feedback only regarding the Bangalore campus as I have studied here and is well versed with the program. Let me break down the different ascepts of this course-1. Learning : Either you are a fresher or an experienced professional, the course has been designed catering to the need of all careeer levels. The course has 3 trimesters and it starts with all the basic principals and techniques, goes into the advanced version of it in the 2nd trimester and at last the application based subjects related to the application of analytics in different domain. [9/10]2. Placements: Main reason for doing this program could be that it is one of the few institute that provided a proper placment season for their placements. The list of companies that came for over batch came with different profiles ranging over different years of experience. I guess placement is a later part as main focus should be on learning which will ensure you end up in job in any way. [9/10]3. Faculty/Professor: At Bangalore campus, we have a full time faculty for Statistics, Machine Learning and Programming. I can tell you personally he is one of the best faculty we have at Praxis. Regarding the other subjects we have visiting faculties from the Industry who are already working in analytics domain. In this way they provide you all the intricate details of the actual working that happens in the industry. Some of the faculties may lacking in teaching skills even though thay come with a lots of experience, but I would say every institute has some cons and I would say some of the professors that we had lacked in teaching but overall those faculties were able to transfer most of the knowledge that is required for us to learn. [7/10]4. Infrastructure: Since the Bangalore campus is new, it is still under the proccess of development so dont expect a college level environment with it is enough to get you started into the analytics. Most of the study materials are provided for free to the students. It is located in HSR layour in Bangalore which has lots of colleges nearby so getting an accomodation is not a problem. [7/10]I guess it helps all the fellow analytics aspirants in choosing their career path. Feel free to reach out to me on Quora if ou need any more help from my side.

Is the HYBRID/Exec. (online plus offline) PGDM program from Welingkar Institute actually good? Does it have the same value as the full-time MBA course from Welingkar?

Thanks for the A2A.First, The Hybrid/Exec PGDM and the full time PGDM from Welingkar are targeted at two very different set of knowledge seekers. The Full time PGDM(MBA degrees can be bestowed only by an university) is for people with minimal Business exposure and are willing put up time, effort and capital for 2 years to get into the Management side of the Business/corporate world. The Hybrid/Exec is for early Entreprenuers, Experienced Professionals who -Cannot spend full time at a collegeThey have already a bit of experience with managementThey are here to hone a specific skill or understand the nuancesThey are just looking for a degree to go with the knowledgeLike I said, two different set of audience. If you think you fit into both…then you have workout your priorities.Simple Equation since you are going into a PGDM courseAvg Outgoing Salary in 2 years > Total Investment + Opportunity cost(salary that you will miss and other income that you might get)If this condition is satisfied, i would say go for it.If you are a fresher and you know “for sure” that you want to get a Post Graduation then , it doesn’t matter , just get it done.

Why most mechanical engineers go for an MBA in operations management?

As Rohit K said - it is a natural succession. However to know why it is a natural one, let us see:Mostly Mech engineers work in Manufacturing or related industry after they graduate, where they witness operations management at the floor level. They become the part of operations where they work. They either manage their sub-ordinates or get managed by their managers.Mech engineering course already lay down the foundation for operations management by having Operations Research, Manufacturing Technology / Processes, Production Planning etc as courses. So as a graduate, you know the variable of the process / industry, and with Operations MBA, you get a chance to learn to manage them.A Mech engineer understands the significance of a supply chain more because s/he can visualise (or has seen) it better as the parameters / constraints of a manufacturing floor are more or less similar in nature. The target processes in Operations MBA during the course are quite similar to Mech processes like optimising a network, CPM / PERT, BIN system (KANBAN) etc.So an MBA in Operations complements the engineering degree. As an engineer, you know the technical stuff about the process and as an Operations MBA, you know what to control and what matters most for the organisation.

Is Symbiosis good for distance MBA?

In my personal and humble opinion no distance MBA is good. It’s like learning to ride a bike from a user manual. You will know all the processes and theoretical know-how, but if being given a bike, i am sure you wont be able to ride it.The essence of MBA program is not its syllabus and books. Its much more than that which includes the following (But not limited to):Peer Group: It is very important. you will have a diverse peer group from different backgrounds and work profiles. It will create a healthy environment for discussion during lectures. In distance MBA, its not possible.Case Study Method: In a good MBA program, all the learning is case study based. Professors doesn’t teach concepts like teachers do in school or in undergrads. Its the responsibility of students to understand the concepts on their own. The discussion in the class will be based on a real life business case study. This cant be achieved from a distance MBA.Placements: Good B-schools facilitate placements of their students. There is no concept of placements in distance MBA.There are many more reasons why distance MBA is no good, but above reasons will be enough to explain the difference. But if you still want to go for distance MBA, i think symbiosis has a good brand name, so it must be good.I hope this answers your question..:)

Is distance MBA at Welingkar Mumbai worth?

If it is just for getting a PGDM certificate then definitely it is worth. However, if you are looking for something beyond that, then I am not sure if it is good.Pros:Wellingkar has a good brand nameFees are affordableCourse is comparatively easy to finish.Cons:Placements aren't greatMost of the recruiters do not prefer distance education candidates. You get PGDM and not MBAMight not be ideal if you are looking for further studies. So if you are already working and feel that it will be a arrow in your quiver you can definitely go for that.If you have just completed graduation, then I would say a regular course would be better.

Is Symbiosis Distance Learning worth it?

Any education is only as much worth as you implement it. Having a management education of any form is a lot better than not having it at all. About mgmt education from SCDL, I felt it was great. We had professors conducting the classes from Pune and we attended via video call. The volume of knowledge the professors shared in the limited time available was something that you wouldn't gain elsewhere. It would enormously change your perspective towards work and business, for good. They can give you the key, it's upto you to open the door and explore. I have seen a lot of technology background working men and women who had taken this program and shifted their career as BAs and Consultants. Personally it helped me a lot in the way I do business. For one to think that just doing a course would get him/ her promoted or would change his/ her career track, is too shallow.Happy learning!!

Is it worth to do a distance MBA from Sikkim Manipal University?

No No No…Not at allI did MBA from SMU 3 years back. Any company public or private which has an established name does not consider it's degree value. Even if when u plan to go outside India and show the MBA done by SMU, they do not consider it(not even giving a look at it). However the way they take exam and all, my god it gives a look like we are seated in board exams.Whats the point of getting such degree with such great effort when it is of no use.Beside this my cousin did BBA in distance from SMU in 2012 and did MCA in regular. When he got a job in a leading IT MNC in India, his background verification failed stating that they do not consider the degree provided in distance. His joining got refusedSo better I would advice is either do a regular MBA or BBA...or if u do in distance or executive do it from a really reputable organisation like XLRI.or just don't do it.I wasted my money due to lack of knowledge. Hope my post help you....
