Could Early Christians Have Been Vegan

Is it un Christian to be a vegan?

go to my profile

I just answered a question similar to this last night
here i copied and pasted my answer

"thats how it was in the beginning

Genesis 1:29 "And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb yielding seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for food"
so at first we lived beside animals as "friends" but with power over them....not to eat.
so no they were not "put" here to eat but to keep

It wasn't until after the flood, God gave us the permission to eat meat

Genesis 9:3 "Every moving thing that liveth shall be food for you; as the green herb have I given you all."

I agree that it was good to hunt and eat meat...back then.....
but now we have slaughter houses and factory farming...abusing the privilege God gave us to eat meat and being wasteful

these days meat isn't really needed except for our animals that are carnivores and have to eat it

humans don't need to.....yes back then it was crucial to eat meat
when animals were able to roam free
but now adays the meat privilege is taken for granted
and I choose to take no part in it.

Bible"

God loves you no matter what
and
and in the beginning we were vegan
but after the flood the plants died so he gave us meat

which like i said in my answer
it was okay to me then because it wasn't cruel like it is today in modern time slaugter, factories, major production, wastefulness, millions being killed each day, etc.

tell your sister to put a sock in it
and that you know what your doing and obvious she is the one that need to read the bible more since she doesn't know what the hell she's talking about

choosing not to eat animal products isn't a sin
and God will love you just the same weather you do or not!

Can Christians be vegan?

A Christian can be a vegan, vegetarian, or a meat eater. If a Christian condemns another person for not being a vegan, vegetarian, or meat eater, this is a separate issue. As Christians we are told to be cautious about what we put into our bodies as our bodies are temples of the living God. While I think that God provided us with animal products to eat (infertile eggs, butter, milk, etc.), I do think nowadays, with all the steroids and whatever else given to animals, the issue is a little more reasonable to want to be vegan.Steroids and GMO’s are unhealthy to the human body (and animals). We “beef” up all this stuff just so we can eat more, but it is not good at all for us and especially for those of our descendants.I, myself, eat meat. I may one day strive to be a vegetarian but I will probably never reach it to vegan since I love animal products (even if there are steriods and/or GMO’s).I would caution Christian vegans to really think over the why’s of their veganism. The Bible teaches that animals don’t have a soul like a human does, and therefore does not “go to heaven”. If veganism is practiced for this reason, than I think the Christian needs to read their Bible more. If it’s because of the idea of animals being killed, I would again point the Christian to the Bible where God calls for the killing and mutilation of animal carcasses for sacrifices and then giving left over meat to the priests.Animal abuse, however, is by no means encouraged in the Bible, and animals are to be killed in the most humane way possibly. Fighting against farms that are filthy and inhumane is a good thing and should be fought by everyone.Additionally, every killing of an animal in the Bible has served some purpose - not just for the sole sake of killing an animal.Leviticus 11 gave the groundwork for what the Israelites could or could not eat in terms of animal meat (clean vs. unclean). In Acts 10, Peter has a vision where a voice tells him to eat that of which was unclean but Peter refuses. The voice then says, in verse 15, “What God has made clean, do not call common.” (or unclean).Anyways, at the end of it all, as long as you are not depriving your body of the nutrition it needs, it doesn’t matter what anybody eats. Bodies are meant to be healthy, and that can be achieved in a variety of ways. It all comes down to personal convictions and the reasons behind the decisions to live a certain way. With theology clearly defined, your reasons will be better defined.

Christians, does Romans 14:2 say that vegetarians have weaker faith than others?

The context is not what a person eats, but "why" they eat it. Read verse one along with verse two.

What Paul is saying is that a person who abstains from meat on religious grounds has weaker faith then someone who does not. It is not because they are a vegetarian, but because they do not understand what Scripture is saying regarding this matter.

Who do people say that vegetarians who eat fish are not vegetarians? their pescovegetarins like me?

Why do people say that were not real vegetarians? Since i now know what is in meat not preservative-wise, i cant eat meat anymore, but i just dont see seafood as meat. Why do people say that vegetarians who eat seafood and not 'real' vegetarians, cause it doesent really matter unless somebody is lying!!!

Why did Jesus Christ eat fish? Shouldn't have he been vegetarian?

Jesus ate fish because he came from Nazerus. It was a fishing village. It would be like asking someone who lived in an orchard why they are fruit.

As for the Catholic origin of eating fish I am sorry to tell you it has more to do with Catholicism then Christianity as a whole. Since Christianity started in the Mediterranean early Christians ate fish. It was later put into cannon by the Council of Nicea, 3 centuries after Jesus death.

Acts 15:29 that you abstain from what has been sacrificed to idols and from blood and from what is strangled and from unchastity. If you keep yourselves from these, you will do well. Farewell."

Is being vegetarian a sin?

It depends. Sin is a deliberate thought, word, deed, or omission contrary to the eternal law of God.

If you are a vegetarian because of "good" reasons then, no, it is not sinful.

If you are a vegetarian because of "bad" reasons like "giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils" then, yes, you would be in trouble.

With love in Christ.
