Is being a lawyer a good career choice?
"Is being a lawyer a good career choice? I am thinking about doing a law degree, but I am unsure as to whether or not it would be right for me. I have heard lots about how lawyers have to work really long hours, but also I know they get paid really well. How many actually get paid the really big wages? The status is something that i would like as well. Can anyone give me any information? If you are a lawyer that would be even better." A quick answer to your question is "Try reading 'Full Disclosure, Do You Really Want to Be a Lawyer?' by Susan J. Bell.'" The books a bit dated now, but the basics are still the same. The legal profession is not what people often think it is (Boston Legal, The Practice, Law & Order, etc.), so it's hard to say if it would be right for anyone in particular. Like any other career choice, there are well paid attorneys and not-so-well-paid attorneys. And like any other careeer choice there are good attorneys and bad attorneys. Better attorneys generally get paid more than bad attorneys. Tax attorneys generally get paid well. But personal injury attorneys can get paid well too. Attorneys serving a public interest (the idealists) often get paid the least-- but still enough to put food on the table. If you're in it for the money and the status, then get in line: Too many attorneys are in it for all the wrong reasons and the legal system-- and all the ordinary people who by necessity must use the legal system-- suffer as a result. Since, generally speaking, the cheapest law schools start around $20,000 a year-- and most cost much more-- it's not a choice to make on a whim for most people. You'll need to take the LSAT. And you'll need to spend three to seven years in law school (depending on if you go full or part time). And you'll have to pass your state bar exam when you finish. Each of those milestones may represent your own little Hell. And when you're all done with that you'll probably never do anything like all three of those things again-- instead spending some years learning how the law is actually practiced in your particular jurisdiction. Read that book. And think hard on that choice. Because the last thing the world needs is another lawyer that isn't in it for the right reasons.
I am thinking about becoming a Lawyer, but i am a Christian and i dont know if this is a good career choice?
hey, I am a senior in high school. My original career choice was going to be a psychologist, but i took a AP psychology class and im wasnt doing so well, so i am about to withdraw it now. and my second choice was maybe a lawyer, because i feel like im a good convincer and i have a really subtle personality, well I dont know if that would benifit me in lawyer, but anyway. I am a Christian, but i dont know if being a lawyer is good for God, because lawyers lie, and lying is a sin. Or should i just give another chance to Psychology in college? any comments or advice will be taken. Thank You
How may I be a Christian and a divorce lawyer? Can I be both at once?
As you know, this is a multi-step analysis.First, what are your views on divorce, from the point of your personal practice as a Christian?Second, does your faith require that you limit your practice to those whose behaviors meet your standards of personal faith? For instance, would you refuse to have a client who cheats his employees? Or who wants a divorce but doesn’t have a reason that meets your personal scriptural standards?Part of BEING a lawyer is putting yourself in the shoes of others, and working for the best result which THEY desire. If you can’t do this, you shouldn’t practice law in that field.
Is there anyway I can be a lawyer and serve god?
Lawyers do a lot of different things. Some work in contract law. You could spend your career reading documents to make sure that no one is being cheated in a deal. You could help people to make out wills. This is not a sinful thing to do. Some lawyers work in patent law. They protect the rights of inventors. Some lawyers work for civil liberties. Some work to make sure that innocent people who are mistakenly convicted are not executed for murder. Some represent the rights of children during divorce proceedings. The rule is not to generalize a group of people. Sure, there a shady, sinful lawyers. There are also shady, sinful ministers. Its how you do the job that make the difference.

Christians, if your job requires you to lie (e.g sales personnel or lawyer), would you?
I will defend sales people... they do NOT NEED to "often lie" to boost sales. My father always said that there were only TWO things you needed in order to be a good salesman... 1. KNOWLEDGE of your product 2. BELIEF in your product. Neither of which entails needing to LIE. But as to your question, if I were REQUIRED to lie, I do not think that I would take the job. Forgive others as I have forgiven you.
Would becoming a Christian help me to immigrate faster to the US now?
Your religion is irrelevant to how fast you can come to the US as a lawful immigration. Trump’s views on immigration in his public statements and what is actually happening in reality are very different. For your brother to handle any immigration matter rather than retaining an immigration attorney is unwise. Immigration is a very complex area of law. It is a lot more than merely filling out forms. You need to retain an immigration attorney to handle all immigration proceedings. This prevents errors that can sometimes prove costly and may even be irreversible. You should always seek to obtain the best attorney that you can afford and not let geographic restrictions stand in the way. Some immigration attorneys will charge a consultation fee, however those that do so, will give full credit if you retain their law firm. Do not let geographic restrictions prevent you from obtaining the best possible attorney. Pick the best lawyer you can find and remember one rule: a good lawyer is generally never cheap, and a cheap lawyer is generally never good so don't choose based on price. Good luck.
