About 30% of people age 50 to 60 suffer from mild depression. A researcher is interested in determining if a vitamin D supplement will increase or decrease the proportion of people that have mild depression. The researcher randomly selects 500 people between the ages of 50 and 60 and ask them to take a vitamin D supplement for 6 months. At the end of the six months, the participants are asked to complete a survey. A psychologist then classifies each participant as either depressed or not. The psychologist classifies 158 people as depressed. Is the proportion of people that are classified as depressed different from 0.30? What is the null and alternative hypothesis?

What is mild depression?

I am not at all a medical professional, but my husband has suffered from mild depression. I have chronic depression, and didn't take his seriously. My bad. He had a very bad episode at work that nagged at him for weeks. He laid in bed in his free time, and didn't take any enjoyment out of life.If you have been sad and/or emotionally flat for weeks, but have no prior history with depression, you may have mild depression. It may get better on its own, but why suffer? A short stint of antidepressants was all my husband needed to snap out of it.I fear that if it had gone on he could've ended up like me. On drugs for the rest of his life just so he could've gotten out of bed in the morning. Depression is serious. If you feel like you would rather you just never wake up again, you are depressed. Maybe only mildly. Please seek help from a doctor. It is a medical problem like any other. You are not unusual. If you need to talk feel free to message me. Depression runs in my family. My fiance is suffering from depression and I also do have mild depression. What circumstances should I expect? What can I do to keep our future marriage life strong considering those circumtances?

Dear,There is much talk about depression nowadays. Feeling low, sad, dull mood, loss of interest in doing anything is normally termed as depression. With out understanding, it is not possible to come out of it.Sadness, depression or disinterest are not our essential nature. They are just covering our nature. We have compromised something essential to get something petty. We trade our freedom to get a salary raise, we give up true love to get security and recognition, we give priority to profit than the Truth. This compromise is at the root of depression. You can’t either loose joy, freedom and Truth or attain fulfilment through money, car, career, home and status in society. Both ways you loose. This is the reason for depression.Acharya Prashant, the founder of Advait Movement, who has touched over millions of people by his profound wisdom, says,The one who does not know the Self, will always be in depression. That is the definition of depression. We are always down. That is the reason why we keep asking, “What’s up?” Nothing. Imaginations are up, hopes are up, that’s all. But life is down. Always down. The one who is not connected to the One Truth, will always feel depressed, will always feel down. You and your fiance can lead a happy and fulfilled life. Depression is not a disease. It is being ‘ dis’ ease with your self. Find out where you compromise and help your fiance too. Or is depression something that is developed through life. coming and going depending on external pressures and events, but not from birth?
