Could I Get A Good Job And Career With Add And Dyspraxia

If your spouse is dyslexic has it affected any part of your marriage?

I have been to counseling alone as my husband won't go, been to two people and they both think my husband has an undiagnosed emotional problem.
I know he has dyslexia and he told me he didn't learn to read until he was about 13 years old. I met him at 15 and we were in the same school, he was always in the classes with our other classmates that need extra help.

I just wonder if dyslexia can affect anything else? Or if it is really possible he has another problem that is undiagnosed. I brought this up in counseling but the woman said she doesn't know but has someone she can ask. I won't be seeing her for another month or two though.

Speech therapy government help, Apraxia of Speech?

Yes there is. I formerly worked at the Department of Human Services in Arkansas and am now a graduate student majoring in Speech Language Pathology. You can apply for disability and the state will pay to have you evaluated by a doctor rather than you paying. You just need to make them aware that you are unable to pay. The speech clinic on campus (if you have one) will help to fill out any paperwork related to their area. You will probably be sent to an ENT or Otolaryngologist of some sort to help assess your condition. Once this process begins, you can contact a Rehabilitation Counseling service in your area. Many times, due to your deficit (apraxia), they can assist you in your career choices and many times pay for your schooling or help you to fill out the government driven programs that will pay for this. Remember also, that if you are independent from parents and living on your own, as a student that is working with Rehabilitation Services, you should be able to qualify for a state based Medicaid program (up to 90 days wait for approval) and the Food Stamp program (30 day wait, but pays out approximately 150 monthly). Use all of these benefits while you are trying to better yourself. That is what they are there for. Also, you will qualify for based on your income housing. With adequate research, you can find a nice apartment that will be low to no rent as they do not count federal grants or school loans as income. It takes time for all of these, but the benefits greatly outweigh the time needed to complete the applications.

One more thing, many campus speech clinics have scholarship programs for those in need to help temporarily until they are approved for a medicaid program. Sometimes there are scholarships even if you are not applying for medicaid.

Can learning disabilities be overcome?

My 9 year old is learning disabled. He has difficulty with everything in school. Math and comprehension are the hardest for him. Hes in 4th grade and finally just getting the hange of addition and subtraction. He had an IEP and hes in a 12:1:1 program. I feel so sorry for him. I want him to succeed in life. Haven't been given an official diagnosis other than being learning disabled. His short term memory is poor and also his attention span. Its hard to get him to sit still and pay attention to something to learn. Is it possible for him to overcome this. I'm doing everything I can to help him.

Can people with Asperger's bulk up in the gym?

Well, can a wheelchair-bound paraplegic write a best-selling novel?Asperger’s/ASD is not a physical handicap. It is merely a difference in developmental brain wiring; therefore, Aspies can set and achieve fitness goals much like any neurotypical. My biggest challenges getting fit as an Aspie lay with:Dyspraxia/incoordination- some people with ASD experience some difficulty planning and executing motor movements as quickly/easily as others. I have very little proprioception so it takes me ages to get down proper form correctly. While I know I may never excel at dance or yoga, my goal was in getting fit— not becoming a star athlete— and thankfully a plethora of simple yet effective weight training moves exist that will get you to your goals no matter your inherent clumsiness! Think bicep curls, tricep extensions, deltoid extensions, crunches, planks, and flat-footed squats (go all the way to the ground so you target the glutes) for starters.Social phobia- many Aspies fear the gym because it may necessitate interaction with others. My easy solution? Obvious white Apple earbuds! Bringing a workout buddy keeps strangers at bay as well, if you have one; I tote along my fiancé as instant creep deterrent. You can also always invest in dumbbells and exercise equipment with which to work out at home if you want to avoid the gym scene altogether, but then you won’t have access to their heavier weights and specialized machines which help sculpt your physique with more precision. On a side note, personally I have found my obsessive, all-or-nothing Aspie tendencies a boon to my fitness goals— it made the process of thoroughly researching the most effective routine for me enjoyable, and once I learned how to channel bottled-up angst and frustration into physical exertion, I began looking forward to my workouts. And this is coming from a life-long couch potato!Once you find a routine of moves that works for you and you commit to executing them regularly, you will reach your goals in no time, no matter how your brain is wired! :)

My sister has ADHD. What can I do to help with this?

You are a kind & caring brother to be interested in both helping her and learning how to best help her.Patience. patience and more patience.Letting her know you care and want to help her navigate through her learning more about it and processing it…..if she so chooses to. Sometimes just being reassured a caring friend or family member is thinking about the page she's on is helpful in itself.Listening more often than talking with her.Education & support through CHADD, with her or independently. The National Resource on ADHDRemind her that living life with ADHD is most often a gift to be cultivated and shared through her own talents and interests.Encourage her to engage in CBT, cognitive behavioral therapy with an MFT or PhD who specializes in this. Medication alone is not a solution. WHAT GOALS SHOULD I HAVE THEN?

Harry Potter star, Daniel Radcliffe, has dyspraxia. And look what he did with his life. You have absolutely no excuse for the position that you have put yourself in. It seems you have been going in a circle for how many years now? And your language! Wow! Using the F-word is not acceptable here. Where you are at today, it's no more about what goals should be. You should be thinking about getting help from a psychiatrist because you seem completely lost and you keep going on in a circle all the time. Many have given you good answers. But it doesn't seem that anything that they said is working for you. You seem to have lost yourself and now you are just spinning because you finally realize that you are 25 and you are still confused as you were 5 years ago. Let a psychiatrist help you find who you really are and what goals you should set for yourself. You need to get off Yahoo Answers because all you are doing here is wasting your time and ours while you should be in therapy instead.
