Could I Have Insomnia

Do I have insomnia????????

In the true definition of insomnia, yes you do. But you are a sixteen year old young man with school, girls, sports, girls, parents, girls, siblings, girls, and all the other distractions of your life that keeps your brain running far beyond the time you need to shut down for a while.

Before you go off to the doctor for some medicine, try making some serious changes to your program. Starting tonight if possible, or tomorrow for sure, turn everything off now. Go take a warm shower, blow your nose, drink a glass of water, open a window in your room for fresh air (just a little if it is really cold out), get a small fan going to drown out ambient noise, and crawl into bed.

Relax your body. Blank your mind. You will find yourself thinking "Why did I say that?" or "Did I hear what I think I heard?" or whatever. Just stop. Tell yourself to worry about it in the morning. Listen to the fan go hmmmm. I love it!

Tonight, and probably tomorrow night, you will have trouble getting to sleep right away, but it should be better. The fresh air will help you maintain a healthy oxygen level in your sleep will give you a better, deeper sleep. The warm shower and routine will help you prepare for shutting down.

Go to bed as close to the same time EVERY night, even week ends. Give yourself an hour to 'sleep in' on Saturday, Sunday, or holidays, but don't sleep much more than that. If you find yourself dragging, a half-hour power nap in the afternoon will get you through dinner and homework.

Cut out all coffee, shots, dark soda, chocolate, and caffinated tea after 1:00pm. Switch to water or herbal tea. Those other things are dehydrating and empty calories anyway.

Get yourself into a good exercise routine too. Get your body worn out and crying for sleep. The physical workout will get your endorphins going and help you feel better. And remember to drink lots of water.

IF you don't find yourself sleeping better, faster, and waking refreshed within seven days, you could go to the pharmacy and get a SMALL bottle of Melatonin to provide a slight chemical adjustment in your brain. Alternatively, if you don't want to mess with herbs and vitamins, go see your doctor for a prescription.

But you will be better off changing your routine.

Sleep well

Can 13 year olds have Insomnia?

omg thats what happends to me like every night!!! i cry too and im 13, its alright. just go lie in bed with ur mom, lol sounds dorky but it makes me less paranoid when i try to sleep. two nights ago i went on youtube and i put on some relaxing music and it put me right to sleep. you should go on limewire or itunes or whatever and burn a cd to put on repeat when you are about to go to sleep. do some yoga breathing and excersizes before bed, and drink chamomile tea.
you could definately have insomnia though. it increases with age, but someone who is 13 can have it too.

talk to your doctor. i did last time and she told me that i should just talk to my self and close my eyes and say 'now is the time to sleep, there is nothing i can do' if that doesn't really help, and if you have thoughts racing through your mind, like i always do, keep sticky notes next to your bed with a pen or pencil and write whatever you think of so you can remember it in the morning. that helps me when i can't sleep and i have too many things to remember.
but as long as you are resting, you are getting rest, almost sleep but not quite. don't stress about what time it is. say, well i can just have some caffine in the morning!

maybe you should try taking a benedryl about 30 minutes before going to bed, so you are tired (make sure its the kind of benedryl that will make you tired) and wake up early on friday mornings and sunday mornings, because if you sleep in on those days, you are less tired at night until later than usual.

The chances of you winning the lottery, then getting struck by lightning, then winning the lottery again, then getting struck by lightning yet again are greater than the chance of you developing FFI. It's genetic and extremely extremely rare. It sounds like you just have run of the mill insomnia. Go talk to you doctor. They might be able to prescribe you something to help you sleep. Also, try good sleep hygiene. Wake up at the same time every morning, regardless of what time you went to bed. Within a few days your body will push back the clock so you're getting tired earlier. And it sounds like you may have some anxiety on top of this if you're convincing yourself that you have rare diseases. You might talk to a doctor about that as well.
