Could Somebody Tell This Luddite How To Get His Yahoo Home Page Back

Why am I being shamed for "still" having a Yahoo email address, when a network of thousands of people over 20 years has that address? What sense is there to losing all those business & personal contacts, to prove I'm modern or hip? It sounds absurd.

Well, first, let’s get a something out of the way.No one should be ‘shaming’ you. It’s your choice. OTOH, if people are respectfully suggesting you change, there are reasons. It has nothing to do with being ‘hip’ or ‘modern.’ It has everything to do with security. Yahoo has become a ‘spam magnet.’ Anyone who wants to spam others, if they aren’t using an .ru account, they will use a yahoo account. Yahoo has done little to nothing to circumvent this.So when people get a yahoo email, it may go directly to their spam box, depending on the filters they have, or may not get there at all, depending on the filters it has to go through on it’s way. Furthermore, if they don’t recognize your address because they know you, they may automatically assume it’s spam. Also, some people don’t really like sending to yahoo accounts, because once they send to you through their email, they know their email is not only someplace in Yahoo’s cyberspace, but more specifically on your computer. And many people consider that if someone is still using a Yahoo account, that they may not be very security conscious or educated, so they may feel their email runs a risk being on your computer if you were to get hacked.Yahoo is just thought of by some computer saavy people as the creepy old man that hangs out at the schoolyard. It’s just a spammy, icky place to some people.Lastly, if you ever do decide to get a new, free, email account, like a gmail account, for instance, where they have much better filters, there is no reason you need to lose your contacts. They can be exported from Yahoo, and imported into other email services.Need to Export Your Address Book from Yahoo Mail? Here's HowNeed to Import Yahoo Mail and Contacts Into Gmail? Do You Think Technology Has/Is Evolving Too Much?

a realm of information is available to the 'dumbest people' simply because knowledge is power. it's invaluable

technology is not the cause of obesity, its people themselves. they have the choice of either sitting home and watching tv all day or going out and playing sports with their friends.

yes, there is no denying that people do abuse technology, but if people are 'losing the ability to think', then why is our technology evolving so much? it's not upgrading on its own.

weaponry is created by people who feel the need to protect themselves from 'evil people,' not knowing that this kind of power easily falls into the wrong hands.

i believe that there is good technology and useless technology. Good tech consists of ideal inventions that help peopl, such as fiber-optic surgery, new devices for people with heart problems, and other innovations that help sick and disabled people get back their lives to the way they were.

Useless technology is stuff like video game consoles and HD TV and Blu-Ray. what do we really need it for? it's great, but it doesn't make our lives any better. don't get me wrong about the Wii though, the Wii-Fit console was designed specifically to help people lose weight in a fun and newly innovated way, and i think that's great.

sorry for the long rant, but i just have to put in my opinion to people who don't favor technology, or don't believe that it's helping us as a society.

Edit: well if you would have mentioned all that stuff in the first place, my answer would have been different. secondly, you said our opinions are greatly appreciated, but now you're correcting us?

Edit2: i see what you mean, and i think you're a very intelligent intellecual for challenging other people's opinions and having them think clearly about their theories and beliefs, but permit me if i may remind you that this is a question & answer site, not a debate forum. i'm not going to report you or anything, but someone else in the future might, if they feel unfair that their honest opinion is being challenged by a question you asked. but it's fine with me. i didnt mean to challenge your opinion of my answer, but pardon me if i was feeling just a little contradicted. ^w^

Why do people in the writing community hate Wattpad so much?

In my opinion, I think it's a great place for publishing short stories, though maybe not so much for novels. I think it's a wonderful website for young or inexperienced authors to gain experience without the stress or time-consuming publication process.

However, people here in the writing community bash authors who choose to write on Wattpad. "Perhaps it's a sign that it's not where you should write?"
"Idiots who publish on Wattpad are not authors. True authors write, revise, edit and rewrite and release their story in one streamlined piece."

Should it matter whether or not you publish on Wattpad? What are your opinions?

What, exactly, does OEM and Open Box mean?

I agree with fnky above.

I disagree with Lavender's novel for two reasons:
1) It's a novel! (you freak)!
2) She assumes you're talking about Microsoft Windows, but you never said that. She ignores OEM "hardware".

In general, just know that OEM is generic and comes without any real support from the manufacturer. The warranty is usually still the same as a retail version, however. But if it's a hardware product and something happens while it's under warranty, you have to return it to the place you purchased it from and not straight to the manufacturer.

Open Box has been nailed in just about every post. Newegg's policy specifically states that you can return it within 15 days if it's a dud. However, beyond that there are no warranties of any kind. That's the only real risk. Evey Open Box item on there has been opened by a customer and then returned for one reason or another.

As for containing accessories, Newegg says:
"Please do not be upset or surprised if an open box product does not contain any cables, manual, software, drivers, fan, et al. Newegg.com will not send you any missing accessories, even if it is an essential part."

OEM is usually better. It will come with what's essential for the product to run. Sometimes, it will even come with software and a driver disc. I've purchased quite a few OEM DVD burners from Newegg that came with software. However, there's no guarantee in that arena either. You should read the fine print in the product description before buying.

Can I scuba dive after having Type 1 Tympanoplasty (tympanic membrane) surgery?

OK, here is my situation. When I was younger, like 4 years old, i had alot of ear infections and had 3 sets of tubes. Then, when I was in the 8th grade, my left ear drum collapsed and I needed ear drum reconstruction surgery (Type 1 Tympanoplasty). I am now a senior in high school and I am planning on enlisting in the Navy for Navy Diving or Navy EOD. Both professions are required to scuba dive. I read online at this website- http://www.scuba-doc.com/entprobs.html#ENT_Guidelines
that having Type 1 Tympanoplasty surgery is an Absolute Contraindication- not really sure what this means.

Please any diving instructors, ex-military, or anyone else who may know the answers, or can help me in any way, shape, or form, PLEASE do so. This has been my dream for as long as I can remember and I have been training for YEARS to get in shape physically and mentally to do the job. Once again, please anyone who knows, help.

Sorry for such a long post, I am just very anxious, worried, and confused about this situation that I am just rambling on about it.

Thanks again so much in advance :)

Are you in favor of a universal basic income? Why or why not?

Yes, I’m in favor. It could do a lot to improve the mess of government intervention in the economy. Think of it as a reboot.Let’s look at where we are now and how we got here. In response to the great depression, when the economy basically failed leaving many facing starvation, Roosevelt instituted the US’s first social welfare programs, including jobs programs and social security. These programs helped, but even when the economy was booming in the 1950s and 60s, there was still a high level of poverty in the US, so more programs were created to patch over the cracks, particularly in the mid 1960s. These helped too, but have left a complex patchwork of a social welfare system that cost a lot to administer, and have still left more than one in eight Americans in poverty. The UBI idea recognizes that poverty isn’t caused by the laziness of the poor, but by lack of opportunity (the children of the poor are very likely to grow up to be poor, especially in countries like the US and UK). It recognizes the problem of the Welfare trap — because welfare benefits phase out for people who take jobs, they cannot survive the period of low pay that usually precedes getting a higher paying job. It recognizes the agency of the poor — giving them money, as opposed to vouchers, allows them to choose the most appropriate products for them on the open market. By not phasing out as people earn income, the UBI eliminates the welfare trap; people get to keep their entire take home pay. And finally, the UBI puts money in the pockets of the working class, who will tend to spend it, stimulating the economy. With a UBI system, instead of carefully (and expensively) limiting the benefit to the poorest, we give the money to everyone, and use taxation to reclaim it from those who don’t need it. Since we already have a tax system, this is cheap and simple.
