Could This Be An Obsessive Thought

How can I stop obsessive thoughts?

By knowing who you are.You are not your thoughts. I myself struggled with a severe form of obsessive thoughts. I had impossible tasks for myself. These months were the worst of my life. They robbed me of all the peace I had. I felt helpless and powerless against them but I still had to follow them. They came from a deep place; a wound of rejection, and this was my way of staying in control over the wound, to protect myself. I knew I wasn't having any control and I was in fact controled by these thoughts. But I wasn't able to get rid of them. It was a pure survival mode I was in and I felt afraid, very afraid, because these thoughts were at the same time also my very enemies. I had no peace, no joy and no life left in me. It's almost impossible to have OCD without being depressed. Unless you are having a light form of OCD.One of the things that eventually brought me to my freedom was to get to know my worth and I also had to go through mental tentions. To not give in, and I want to let you know that whatevever your OCD looks like… it is okay to avoid some tention in the beginning but slowly build your strength to face each and one of these thoughts from wich you know are not realistic and speak truth over them. Speak truth to them.Truth and OCD cannot go together for a long period of time. Truth needs to win over the lies that are in your mind. This is how I overcame the core of my OCD, by speaking the truth to it.I know you can do this as well.Oh by the way. I always say this but don't be harsh on yourself. Speak truth from a heart of love and deep compassion. Because, a lot of the thoughts you are having are probably pieces of pure pain wich are in need of so much love and care.I know you can overcome them. ‘Caus I did. It was tough, but more than possible!

How to stop obsessive thoughts?

Start wearing a rubber band around your wrist, and when you notice your thoughts starting to spiral and you start obsessing, snap the rubber band on your wrist as kind of like a "snap out of it" type thing. And just get used to telling your thoughts to STOP. it will take some practice

Zoloft and obsessive thoughts?

I know from an earlier question that you are young...and there is so little data about the under 18 age group...and any anti-anxiety medication can cause certain symptoms in anyone. Teens are especially susceptible to experiencing unusual side-effects or sensations.

My nephew was put on Prozac at 15, and he immediately began experiencing suicidal thoughts...and had to be taken off of it almost immediately. Thank God he told his parents about that, or he might have just killed himself.

The fact that you feel better without the Zoloft indicates that this is NOT the medication for you. Let your doctor know that you are feeling better without it, and you may be able to take something else for the anxiety. There are some older, safer meds for the anxiety, and they are generic, and you can probably get them at WalMart or Target for $4 a month.

Kudos to you for listening to your body and your gut instinct--sometimes doctors like to tell patients, especially youngs ones, to just take this and you will feel better...but YOU are the biggest part of managing your heath, especially with depression and anxiety.

Don't be afraid to speak up, and to change providers if you do not feel you are getting the care you need. Hang in there--life gets better!

How to stop obsessive, irrational thoughts?

Over the past couple of years I have been getting obsessive thoughts about many things and I just can't get rid of them. The thoughts always relate to something I like or am interested in and are usually triggered by something I hear or read. For example, two of my main interests are foreign languages and music, and I used to really enjoy studying both of them, but one day I read an article about how the two subjects are closely related. Since then, whenever I try to study, all that I can think is that because these skills occupy the same part of the brain, I can't be good at either because it's too much for me to take in.

Also, if I hear or read something negative about something I like, I can't stop thinking about the negative thing. For example, if I bought something new and really liked it, (like a new laptop) but then read a review saying that it is bad in some way, that thought would get stuck in my head and I couldn't enjoy it anymore.

I know this all sounds ridiculous, but these thoughts are really ruining my life and enjoyment of things. I really need to know what causes them and, more importantly, how I can get rid of the ones I have now and stop new ones from developing. I would appreciate advice from anyone who knows about these things or suffers from them as well.

Note: I also think I may have OCD as I display some of the symptoms, however I have never been diagnosed with it.

Help with anxiety/obsessive thoughts?

It will get better. Just have faith.
I've been suffering with anxiety/depression for the past 3 years so i know how bad it could be.
Counseling should really help you. Also if those pills that you're on arent helping much then i would highly suggest you go back to your doctor and inform him that they're not working and if necessary the doctor will prescribe you different medication.
if you're a believer in God then i would highly suggest you say this prayer. Prayers really helped me with my anxiety. i will provide you with the link.

Also,
Here are natural ways to decrease your anxiety.
1. exercise daily.
2.take walks everyday.
3.drink herbal tea that DO NOT contain caffeine.
4. keep your mind busy. for example: talk to some friends. draw. listen to music. write. watch a movie..etc.
5. do breathing techniques. when you feel that anxiety feeling starting, inhale very slowly from your nose till your lungs are full, hold it for a few seconds and then exhale out your mouth. do it a few times and it will slow your heartbeat and calm you down.
Also, they say breathing into a paper bag when experiencing a panic attack helps.

Good luck!
Just remember, you;re not alone.

I feel like my obsessive thoughts are beginning to take over my life... 24/7?

so you have GAD, of course, OCD and sounds like paranoid personailty disorder, and maybe even OCPD (obsessive compulsive personality disorder). what i suggest you do is first, go look up the DSM-IV-TR in the library reference section and look up all these disorders, and if any others catch your eye, read about them too. this is the manual of mental disorders, it tells a bit about the disorder and gives the signs/symptoms you must have and how long you must have them (if applicaple) in order to have the disorder. then i suggest that you go see a psychologist, not just any, but a behavioral or cognitive or one that practices both (usually they do cause behavorial and cognitive kind of go hand in hand). tell them what you experience, what you do, how you feel, etc. and i hate to suggest it, but i would also talk to him about getting on meds, only because your disorders are really bad, and meds could actually help and not just be a quick fix. but talk to him/her about it first and if you guys decide that you need them, then get on them, but remember its totally up to you whether you want to or not, and you can stop them anytime you want, you are in control, remember, its your body!!! but yes see a psychologist and dont stop. it will help, but you have to be totally open and honest about what you are going through for the therapy to work, if your not, then there is no sense in going. i do hope that you get help and that everything works out for you!!
