Murder Mystery Plot? CREATIVE WRITERS HELP!!?

This site has some seriously fun looking parties :)
http://www.dinnerandamurder.com/

And I think you should use their idea of 'weapons' cards (or toy weapons, depending on your budget) and definitely read about some of their plots for inspiration.

Your hospital is raising money for a new wing and the admin decides to host a fundraiser. Hospital staff and many colorful guests attend. For instance, somebody's date could be a thug carrying the murder weapon. If you have any guests participating in the 'script', one of them could buy the weapon from him (assign 'budgets' to each guest and include fake money with their character packet based on the background of the character, this gives them game revenue should they decide to blackmail or bribe each other for clues.)

Of course, the guest who buys the weapon doesn't ultimately have to be the killer. Another 'script participant' could steal it and use it on the victim. It would be interesting if the murder weapon originated with one of your guests who wasn't involved with the behind the scenes stuff. You could give most of the character's something to hide, and a few of the 'non-scripted' characters could even have a motive for the murder. Plant the idea that the killer could be any of them. This way they won't automatically rule out anyone who doesn't seem 'in on' the party plans.

Maybe another character is a staff member selling something they ought to leave in the hospital supply room. Tsk tsk. And maybe a deal is set to go down at the fundraiser...

And another character could be a relative bent on revenge against the hospital for letting someone die (or curing someone they hated?)

How did the victim die? Gunshot wound? Drug overdose? Outright poison? And the ultimate question: Whodunit? The angry relative? An ex-employee? The thug? Maybe the victim was married and cheating and their spouse got angry. Or the lover was frustrated because the affair ended instead of the marriage.

Anyway, good luck with your mystery party. Have fun!

FAIRY TALE- MORAL? PLEASE HELP CREATIVE WRITERS?

you could write about a woman taking a silkies skin and hiding it so that he couldn't transform, thus leaving the woman behind, heartbroken. One day after he had been with this woman for 15- 20 years, he stumbles upon his silkie skin and confronts her about trapping him on land, thereby keeping him from his one true love, the sea. He could then ask her how she would like it if he were to take the children from her and maybe he just does that(gives them silkie skins of their own and takes them to sea with him) to get even with her for denying him his freedom.
You do know what a silkie is don;t you? they are like seals or sea lions that can shed there skin and become a mortal man for a time. but if he cannot find his skin then he cannot return to the ocean. that is just a suggestion, an outline you would have to fill in the story, I would but unfortunately I don't have the time right now, plus you should do at least part of the work since it is your class (no offense, but I just talked to my 15 year old daughter about doing her own work, it would be a tad bit hypocritical for me to then turn around and do your school work for you)

or you could write about niads/nyads (not sure of the spelling) they are water creatures, stick to mainly fresh water. trying to wrack my brains for ideas to help get you going. there are all kinds of different water elementals, I just can't think of any more right at the moment! if I think of any over the next few days, I'll edit my post to add them

Good luck with your story!!

Where can I receive help in creative writing?

One thing you can do is hire a comic book, manga or graphic novel ghost writer. At Ghost Writer, Inc. we have those on our team. Google “comic book ghost writer” and see what comes up under that search term. Comic book manga ghost, graphic novel ghost, etc. You’d be surprised how much a great ghost writer who knows comic books can help you get your ideas down and made into the illustrated story you have been dreaming of for years. Not to advertise our ghostwriting services, but we have several famous artists and writers on our team who can perform the type of work you mentioned. It’s just a matter of searching the Internet until you find the ghost and the price you need to complete your work. Check out a variety of ghosts!

How does a degree in Creative Writing help?

I’d like to point out here that you are asking the equivalent of “Should I get a degree in painting or sculpture so I can make a living doing art?”This is where I bring the reality to the picture. Journalism jobs are drying up. Magazines and newspapers are closing shop and when they do manage to survive, they are increasingly buying content from freelancers (for cheap) rather than keeping writers on staff. If you have contacts somewhere, you might be able to get on staff, perhaps as a copyeditor, but there are 10 people competing for every open job in journalism. You will absolutely not be able to get a job as an editor in a publishing company right out of college. If you are very lucky, you might apply just at the moment when there is a low staff position open, such as mail room, clerical or assistant somewhere down on the totem pole.If you have contacts in the industry, you might get a job in an advertising agency with a degree in creative writing. But you are more likely to win the lottery or be struck by lightning than to be able to make a living in any creative writing field. One of the people I mentor is my co-author on several books, has my name on the cover to boost him, and he is making less than $12,000 a year from writing. You won’t have that, so your income if you can actually sell anything is going to be less than 1/4 of that. And I should point out that you will graduate with this degree and $30,000 or more in debt, which you will have to begin repaying immediately. My advice would be to study to get a job in a skilled trade, like electrician, plumbing, auto repair, or HVAC repair, something people will always need, and write in your off hours.

How do we help kids enhance their creative writing skills?

Children’s creativity is endless. Little ones are able to imagine things that go beyond expectations. If kids engage in writing from an early age, they will be able to expand their creative potential. Children have a natural tendency to notice and observe the world around them; writing is a fun way for kids to express themselves and build skills at the same time!Give your child enough time to be creativeCreative writing requires higher-level thinking from your child. Take a look at his or her schedule and be sure that your child has enough time to brainstorm writing ideas. Encourage your child to spend time writing down thoughts on the different elements of his or her piece.Create a writing environmentBecoming a creative writer takes practice and needs interest. Setting up an environment at home can help support this success. Having writing materials that are readily available and interesting are important. Keeping a writing journal handy is a great way to capture those thoughts, even in the car. One big tip is to play games at home that build vocabulary skills.Use writing prompts to practiceWriting prompts or story starters are a great way to get your child’s writing process started. We are all familiar with “Once upon a time…” Ask your child, “What are other ways to start our creative process?” Take time and brainstorm a few with your child for upcoming writing sessions. Kids can get pretty creative.

Is creative writing a talent?

Creative writing is definitely a talent. Creativity itself is a talent. There are so many people in the world who couldn't think up a decent book idea. In my opinion, using words to create vivid imagery in a reader's head is a beautiful talent (but as a writer I am biased).

As for a future career, it really depends on what style of writing you are good at. Screen writing, book writing, and journalism are all entirely different styles, so you have to explore the opportunities open to you and see which style you are best at and have the most chance with. Plus, if you like reading then you could look into a career as an Editor.

I would talk to your teachers for guidance at school, because they really can help you. x

What is a creative writing class like?

Like anything, it depends on how good your teacher is. At the high school level, you are unlikely to have someone with much experience in the field ( they are usually a teacher, not a professional writer) but they can still help you with things like plotting, learning to write a proper hook, and so on. You will probably get more help with the technical aspects of your writing - grammar, sentence structure, etc - than you will with things like dialog ( which is tough even for accomplished writers), pacing, and so on. What you will get is a writing intensive class with good feedback. For a young writer the objective feedback of a teacher is far more valuable than the squeals of your friends and parents.
