Critique My Short Story

Where can I get critiques of my poems and short stories?

Start sending stuff to your friends. Create an opt-in email list, send them 3 examples and see who opts in. Encourage them to comment. Many of the comments will be of the nature of how they connected with your poem or story, some will be more technical about style etc. I prefer the first sort of comment, and find it interesting in who connects with what. I've had such a list for the last 3+years, and delight in the small conversations that arise.

Please read/critique my short story!?

Hi!

Any comments/help/advice for this would be thankful! It's for a class I'm taking and it was just 2-4 pieces of fiction. How are my characters? Are they too flat? Complex, enough? Things like that. Thanks!

How to write a good hacking short story?

Well, this may help, or it may not help. Just keep in mind while your writing the story, you must always be creative! That is going to help you out alot in, well, throughout your life. Another thing to keep in mind is to use different, more immense, more complex words. For example, instead of bigger like I said, you should "upgrade" it to more immense. Finally, edit your work when your done. It will help you get a better grade;). There really isn't anything to tell you here. Most of the time, the thing that is most needed when writing books is your imagination.

I’m in the process of writing a short story. Where could I get my writing critiqued by a professional? How much does it cost?

Join a writing group. First off that will get you amateur critiques rather than professional, but it is essentially free— you may have to pay something towards refreshment or room hire. There are plenty of folk who advertise their services on the web, but it’s very hard to be sure how good they are; they all say they are great. You could think about formal education; universities offer a range of courses, in the UK we have Certificates, Diplomas and Degrees. They cost more, but they are academically validated. Finally if you hunt around you will find there are competitions that offer a critique for an enhanced entry fee.Keep in mind that the people who don’t like it will allow you to learn more than the folk who tell you that they love it. Praise is good for the ego but it doesn’t show you how to improve. As to the cost, it can vary enormously and I doubt if there is much corellation between cost and quality, my guess is not to go for the cheapest or the most expensive. It’s hard to sell short stories, so the chances of making back what you spend on critiques is low. Sorry to be so brutal about that but writing is one of those things you have to need to do, or do for fun. It is also addictive.

What aspects of Irish society does Joyce critique in the short story "Araby"?

I think to say that "Araby" is a critique on Irish society is really to miss the point of the story. I feel it's really more about just being a kid with a crush on someone and not being able to make it work out. It's the bittersweet feeling when you get what you want but realize you didn't really want it in the first place.

Asking again... can you critique my two short poems?

Sight
-----
We pass in the hallway,

I smile, you’re already gone,

I see you in class,

But do you see me?

I almost always feel invisible,

You’re making it worse,

If you do see me,

Is it the way I see you?

You crack a joke, I laugh,

Do you care?

Or am I just annoying?

When you say my name,

My heart jumps,

But I hide it and look away,

Smiling like a little kid,

With a cherry lollipop.

Do you see me?

I see you,

That’s for sure.

I don't like this one much anymore, and it's from a year and a half ago, when I liked a different boy. But please critique! And please read the next one.

What is this feeling?
---------------------
'What is this feeling?'

I sing along happily,

but this line provokes thought.

What /is/ this feeling?

This boy, he makes me think.

He makes me laugh.

He makes me cry.

We tease.

But what do we have?

Friendship?

Yes.

Love?

I don't know.

It's not like with the last boy.

There are no butterflies,

there are no jitters,

there are no unexplained goosebumps.

He is my best friend.

But is he more?

'What is this feeling?'

~~~
This one I wrote on a whim just now. Let me know what you think!
