Degrees For Careers In Advertising

Can you get rich with a marketing and advertising degree?

You can get rich if you find a way to market and advertise your own venture and businesses. Do not get a degree and go work for someone. You will only be paid what a job position is worth not what you are worth.

What are the degrees required to get an advertising job in India?

An MBA in marketing is good option but the best is to get MBA from this collages :MICA AhmadabadSIMC PuneXIC MumbaiIIMC (great for journalism ok For advertising )If you dont get this collages go any good collage with MBA in marketing.Work for 1-2 years and then go to advertising .Also you can start as copywriter now and work your way up.

Do I need to get my MBA for a career in advertising?

It's absolutely not necessary.I can't think of anyone within my organization who has an MBA. That being said, as Carl Hartman wrote in his answer, marketing strategy expertise is extremely valuable. A marketing-focused MBA would be a nice credential to have, particularly from, say the Kellogg school that's typically regarded as the top (or one of the very top) MBA programs for marketing.  But definitely not required - actual experience on your resume showing successful marketing of a product is probably more valuable.

What should I major in to go into advertising?

A few of the schools I'm considering don't offer an advertising major. Most of them offer the following majors, though:

Communication Studies
Mass Communications
Organizational & Corporate Communication
Public Relations

Which, if any, of those would help me toward a career in advertising.
Thanks in advance.

Does having an honours degree make a big difference career wise in the marketing/advertising industry?

No it doesn't. What counts is experience and results. If you are still in a university (college), get an internship at an agency where you know you can get helpful real world experience at, not a place where you are just a glorified gopher for the boss. And when you are interning, collect contacts because they can be a valuable source for you in the future. Best of luck!

Would having a J.D. help with a career in marketing and advertising? If so, then how?

A law degree would be useful in any organisation, especially if corporate law forms part of the qualification. Every company draws up contracts for employees, board members, shareholders, suppliers, contractors, bank loans, investments, company terms and conditions, etc, etc.If you are interested in marketing and/or advertising and already have a law degree, then choose the organisation of interest to you and apply. If you haven’t started your law degree but you wish to combine the two disciplines, seek to specialise in corporate law. This would come in handy working in any organisation or industry. Company Secretaries (these are corporate lawyers in the UK) hold responsible and highly paid jobs and in large companies, they are often company directors, also.Job Search Success

What can I do with a marketing degree?

If you picked Marketing, you didn't pick the wrong degree. A bachelor's degree in marketing is a great career starter. Look at the bright side, you can start earning immediately, no MA or PhD required.

So what can you do with a marketing degree? You could work in public relations or advertising, you could become a brand manager, you could perform market research, or even go into international marketing if you're so inclined. You'd be a shoe-in for sales positions, and as you grow your skills, your salary will grow exponentially. Try do determine an area you want to focus on, and become an expert in your field; I guarantee, the money will follow; but more importantly, you'll have the flexibility to work in a market you love, be it sporting goods, or video games, or speed boats, they all rely on marketing to sell their goods.

Just focus on growing yourself into the field, read everything you can, and never stop learning. If you are a hard working, motivated, and disciplined person, career satisfaction will follow.

I'm 40 making a career pivot. I want to finish my degree in advertising. Will hiring managers be concerned if I earned my degree online vs traditional?

I debated putting this in writing, but here is my relative estimation of degrees when considering a candidate:On-Campus Real College: Very MuchOff-Campus/Online Real College: SomeFor-Profit College (Any venue): Very littleNot fair, I know.  But there you go.That said, for a mid-career professional -- even in a hard pivot -- your experience and demonstrated capability vastly outweigh education.  If you show me how your skill set ports into advertising, then back it up with "I also jumped through the hoop of getting this degree to make it official," I respect that, even for a lesser degree or certification.Quantitative, operational, and a host of other skills directly apply from other industries into marketing activities, and I've seen a lot of skilled players come in via this route. If your vision is some sort of Darrin Stephens-esque "idea man", or if you're interested in the practical art side of the game you might want to reconsider.  But everyone is always looking for solid operators.
