Depression And Junior Year Grades

Why have I become depressed in junior year?

I am in my first year of college not in USA. But take advice from old folk haha.
Look I have been through junior year of school and it really is hard academic wise and also now the time is getting nearer to reach adulthood. It can be scary. You might feel like that you're not quite ready for everything and work is too much that you'd rather procrastinate. Procrastination is easy and comfortable but certainly leaves you miserable at the end of the day.
All you need to do is take up a new hobby and stay focused in your studies. Really life is not that short sometimes. It is just a phase which will soon pass. For that you need to explore different hobbies and find what you like. Try to keep up your grades. Keeping them up really helps a lot. Realize that once your school days are over you won't get them back so try to do something different everyday.
Bottom line is: Take up a new hobby. Don't be jealous of other's success. Study everyday. Do something different. Just have fun.

I failed my junior year in high school due to depression and I have been struggling through last year.?

First of all, I'm sorry that the people around you are treating you this way. They don't understand depression or what it can do to a person. The thing is, depressed people don't think the way other people do. We can't always (or even usually) convince ourselves to do the things we should do, like doing homework or even getting up in the morning.

I almost failed out of college for this same reason. If you are feeling what I'm feeling, it seems like nothing really matters and there's no point in trying anymore. My advice is this - first, go to a mental health professional and see what they can do for you. If your parents don't care enough to help you with this, you need to find someone that will help you or MAKE your parents care.

My second piece of advice is to do something completely different from what you're doing now. In my case, I managed to graduate college and then moved to China. But I understand that's probably not an option in your case. So I suggest some of the things I did in college to make it through - volunteering is great for boosting your self-esteem. It makes you realize that you CAN make a difference to someone.

I won't assume you haven't tried to talk honestly with your friends about it. So the better thing to do might be to become a part of internet communities of people with similar problems. This might sound silly, but imgur.com is a wonderful place. Many of the users suffer from depression and they know how to build each other up. Come check it out!

Last thing - I'm not sure if it's possible to message people on Yahoo Answers, but you are more than welcome to message me if you can figure it out!

Is it normal to experience depression your junior year of high school?

Depression can be Enviromental, hereditary or come as you grow. It can hit at any time when there is an imbalance in serotonin (often times winter time causes low vitamin d2, which in turn alters serotonin imbalances. So yeah, it’s possible and if you believe you are suffering, seek counseling. It helps, it helps a lot.

HELP! I Really Screwed up Junior Year (bad grades!)?

What was your GPA before your Junior year? I know you don't know what it is mixed but it helps to know whether your GPA was like a 3.5 prior to your Junior year or like a 2.8.

Your SAT score was really good which is important.

If you got a 3.5 freshman year and a 3.5 sophomore year and a 2.9 junior year then (if I calculate correctly but GPA might be weird) you might have a 3.3 GPA overall.

I just checked VCU website and it says that you need at least a 3.0 GPA overall to apply. So as long as you were maintaining above a 3.0 the other years then you may be fine. It's still a possibility but it also might be harder to get into the university from in state rather than out of state.

For your senior year I would make sure that you work hard to bring your grades up and to show them that you do know how to maintain your grades. In your application letter you can also explain certain things like why your GPA went down. My brother's grades took a dip between tenth and eleventh grade because we moved overseas and transitioned from public school education to private. Your difference in grade was because of depression. As long as they see that you were able to pick yourself up from a tough situation they will be more understanding.

EDIT:

Even if you don't pull through with above a 3.0 GPA they had some information on how someone with a 2.9 or lower might be able to apply and be accepted. It just means that your chances of being accepted are a lot less and it might be a lot harder to get in. So realistically speaking it looks like senior year will have to be a year where you work your butt off to help bring your GPA up. It does really help that your SAT score is so high though.

I Really Screwed Up Junior Year (bad grades--please help!)?

I'm extremely disappointed in myself. I should have been more aware of my grades, but I wasn't really keeping check. I've been extremely depressed this year and it has really shown in my grades. Junior Year is the most important year (Academic-wise) and I've done so poorly in my classes. As of know my GPA is a 3.15UW/3.7W. I don't know how my grades will affect my GPA. This really isn't like me. I've never even gotten a D before. I'm really worried how this will affect my chances at a good private college (Not Harvard material, but maybe Duke or Carnegie Mellon--slim chance?). I know I'm capable of doing a lot better. If I was able to pull off straight As next semester (although the odds are against me) and do well on my AP Exams (4-5 range) could I still have a chance at a good private school? And if not what colleges would you recommend to me if my grades get better?

Junior Year Semester 1 Grades:
Home Economics: A
Modern Mythology: A
Pre Calculus Honors: B (or high C if I failed the final)
AP Physics B: F
AP US History: D
AP English Language and Comp: C
Art: A

Online Courses (FLVS):
AP Statistics: A
AP Art History: A

Here are my Stats:
SAT: 2250

AP Exams: Taken 4 so far (since Sophomore year). AP Biology, AP Human Geography, AP World History , AP French.

ECs: French Club Officer, Literary Magazine Editor, Newspaper Editor, CSSA Inner Spark Program, and a lot of other journalistic stuff. Link Crew Leader

Work Experience: Worked for Winn Dixie during the summer and early fall.

Community Service: Beta Club Hours, Volunteered at a nursing home and hospital.

Awards: None. But I am entering into the Scholastic Writing Awards Competition.

State: Florida

Ethnicity/Gender: Black female

Do I at least have a sliver of a chance if I work my a** off?

Can someone help me? My grades are dropping due to depression?

Why is it so hard for people to be themselves? Why are you changing for someone? If for some reason this girl ends up falling for the "new you" you've still lost. She doesn't like you. She likes the person you're pretending to be. Pretty stupid if you ask me. You're like Bruno Mars jumpin infront of a train. She's obviously not interested so forget about it. But what do I know. All this generation needs is swag and money right?

Grades slipping during junior year?

practise, practise, practise

I'm depressed about my grades. I'm a freshman in high school.?

I am a high school junior and I've been depressed before, too.the important thing to remember is that tomorrow is a new day. No matter what happened today, know that tomorrow will be better. On a side note, I disagree with whoever said try harder freshman year. maybe its different at private school but in general your grades freshman year matter least. Although all your grades count once you're in high school, if you goof up Freshman year colleges will not be too butthurt as long as you fare better later on. In my opinion what really counts is effort. If your grades suck because you aren't trying, then shame on you. But, if you're giving all your work a good effort and still get some C's or D's then I consider that to be ok. If you know what you struggle with, then seek help for that which you know you struggle. You don't have to study alone, you can study with your friends or other classmates, and studying for midterms may seem overwhelming, but it doesn't have to be. did you take notes? if so, refer back to them to refresh your mind of what you learned earlier, and don't study too hard or you may stress yourself out. Back to being depressed, depression is very hard to deal with on your own, i know. tell your parents that you are depressed and stressed and get their advice. lastly, school doesn't need to be all about grades. they certainly matter, no doubt, but thinking about your grades all the time is going to make you feel stressed/depressed. if you can, try to give yourself more free time away from your schoolwork and don't try to study and do homework in binges. instead take breaks when you need them.

If you have bad grades from your freshman year, but have a valid reason as to why, would Yale forgive them if you got amazing grades after your freshman year?

Do schools care about high school freshman year grades? Are bad grades recoverable?Schools care much more about your SAT/ACT, your grades in Soph/Jr year, essays, and your activities. You are going to have to be exceptional in any case. So, what have you learned from your freshman year? How do you carry forward determination, drive, focus, and the ability to study and learn well? You are going to need high SAT/ACT. You are likely going to need exceptional performance outside of academics- either in athletics or extracurrics.A 3.0 in your freshman year is not going to block you from getting into good schools.Yale is super competitive- as are all the other top schools. Make sure you apply to a quality spread of schools because anyone who only applies to schools with a 10% acceptance rate is setting themselves up for disappointment. Also, not getting into Yale isn’t a big deal either. Life will forgive you for not getting into Yale. Have fun. Learn cool stuff. Meet cool people. Do cool things. Be a good person. It will be alright.
