Dermatitis Seborrheic Cause Hairloss

Is hair loss caused by seborrheic dermatitis?

Not directly. Seborrheic dermatitis won’t cause hair loss directly usually, but it can (uncommon) if you let it get too bad and there’s an abundance of fungus in your scalp. It’s far more common for your SD to cause your to scratch your head and scalp excessively, which in turn can definitely cause hair loss - fortunately, this is temporary. If you’re experiencing hair loss through this, you should probably go and see a dermatologist. They’ll likely prescribe you some shampoo containing Salicylic Acid (T Sal) or Ketoconazole (Nizoral Shampoo).

Does seborrheic dermatitis cause hair loss?

Also, are there any proven natural remedies to control or rid of this condition? Any harm in using those tar shampoos over a long period of time? I am hesistant to do anything which will cause hair loss and am scared if I don't that the seborrheic dermatitis will itself cause hair loss. I also have it on face now :( Any sufferers know how to control this?

Can you lose hair with seborrheic dermatitis?

Yes you can lose hair with seborrheic dermatitis as the name suggests dermatitis which means inflammation, and inflamed hair follicles make hair fall out,the scaling too makes hair fall out and often in hand fulls at a time,

seborrheic dermatitis is a life long condition that never actually goes away, the best a person can do is control it with the correct shampoos and such to keep symptoms away, the best i find is Nizoral shampoo which kills the yeasts that cause the thing in the first place,

but you must keep using it to prevent it coming back again, another thing is to take B vitamin supplements this helps to stop the hair loss as it calms down the symptoms,i take vitamin B6 at 50 mg strength i take one a day with meals,

since i have taken them my hair has stopped falling out and my face is now clear too,one thing avoid sweet and sugary foods as it thrives on sugar and makes the symptoms a whole lot worse, switch to fruit and veg,

i have also installed a chlorine filter to the shower and it helps lots,my scalp is so much calmer as chlorine in water dries the scalp out so makes it scale more so it means more itching and more hair loss,

so how long it lasts is always if you stop the medicated shampoo, you only need antibiotics if it has become infected the antibiotics wont make the sebborrheic go away at all, hope this helps so maybe try the vitamins too as it realy helps it,

but yes hairloss is the first thing we notice with it and it always happens, stress can make seborrheic happen too or worsen it if you already have it,it lays dormant then strikes if we are stressed, but the hairloss makes us stressed so it becomes a vicious circle,so dont worry about the hairloss as the hair does grow back you wont go bald at all.

Can seborrheic dermatitis cause hair loss if located on the scalp?

Not usually, if someone is aggressively scratching their head due to yhe fungal nature of the sebaceous excrement- it can feel hot, itchy, tingly, and sore. In my clinic I advise that dairy products are cut down or ideally removed completely. Daily washing with a shampoo that contains piroctolamine to attack the reason for the yeast build up. You may have a secondary hair loss condition, in men male pattern thinning often has a degree of seborrhoea exzema and in women with female pattern hair loss, many under 30 also have PCOs and therefore testosterone imbalances that exacerbate the scalp condition running parallel as a result of increased circulating androgens.

Seborrheic dermatitis and hair loss? Can it be reversed after treatment?

Around two years ago I started shedding insane amounts of hair on my scalp and crown. I was told that I lacked vitamin B and was given a suplement and got a anti-hair loss shampoo. A week later the hair loss was controlled. Recently I changed shampoo and conditioner and started losing less hair in the shower plus i don't shed nowhere near much as before during the day. But the redness, greasiness, itchyness, flaking and scaling persisted. My scalp and crown are more tender, oily, flaky and itchy than the rest of my head but the scaling happens more around the ears and the scales are white and very thin. Also my hair is baby thin and worse than that on my scalp and whatever i lost when it happened i didn't get back, I'm just barely maitainig what I have but it's a losing battle and it's making a dent in my hairline near the left temple and I may well be bald by the time I'm 25.

Hair loss due to seborrheic dermatitis or psoriasis?

"Seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp (dandruff) in adults and adolescents. Dandruff is usually treated with a shampoo that contains salicylic acid (some brand names: X-Seb, Scalpicin), the prescription medicine selenium sulfide (brand names: Selsun Blue, Exsel) or zinc pyrithione (some brand names: DHS Zinc, Head & Shoulders). These shampoos can be used 2 times a week. Shampoos with coal tar (some brand names: DHS Tar, Neutrogena T/Gel, Polytar) may be used 3 times a week. If you have dandruff, you might start by using one of these shampoos daily until your dandruff is controlled, and then use it 2 or 3 times a week.

When you use a dandruff shampoo, rub the shampoo into your hair thoroughly and let it stay on your hair and scalp for at least 5 minutes before rinsing. This will give it time to work.

If the shampoo alone doesn't help, your doctor might want you to use a prescription steroid lotion once or twice daily, in addition to the shampoo.

Seborrheic dermatitis of the skin creases in adolescents and adults. Steroid lotions may be used in adolescents and adults. "

The effectiveness of medications used to treat alopecia depends on the cause of hair loss, extent of the loss and individual response. Generally, treatment is less effective for more extensive cases of hair loss.

Has anyone suffered hair loss do to seborrheic dermatitis on the scalp?

I developed this problem about a month ago and it does suck. I have tried numerous things to help control this problem. Two things that have worked for me is ketoconozole shampoo 2% and sunlight in moderation. I was ironically using head and shoulders daily for 4 years before and while this disorder appeared and it doesn't seem to help at all now. It's mind blowing how derms and docs say this condition doesn't cause hair loss but i assure you. It does. I think its the inflamation part that does this. I mean how couldn't it? Feels like your wearing a hat when it flares big time. It's funny how they say its common but truthfully the severity and symptoms vary between each individual. So here's what I am doing so far to help me. Ketoconazole 2% every other day (prescribed). Make sure it gets to your scalp. I apply by sink by running fingers under hair first wetting with water then application of the shampoo leaving on for 5-10 min. Make sure your thorough getting all areas even non effected spots because this stuff moves around. Rinse. I also switched to dermatest for shampooing with has syscilic acid which so far works better for me but i am still searching for the right shampoo. I also changed my diet somewhat. Now the cause isn't really known of this mess but i trying to eat mainly white meats. A crap load of veggies and avoiding sugars, processed food, dairy. Also supplementing MSm, biotin. That's my advice if you look up there is a crap load of remedys and techniques but you just got to figure out what works for you. Also. Yes I have same thing going on with my mirror. Remember to try and be calm. For most its stress, anxiety, depression that seems to be the common factor with people who have developed this condition.

How to treat seborrheic dermatitis?

The main cause of Seborrheic Dermatitis is overreaction of the immune system. Identifying certain foods, chemicals, etc can be very helpful in battling this disease. I try to avoid milk products which trigger my flare-ups.
After using number of prescription drugs I've turned to the natural treatments.
Now I use serenaskin eczema herbal remedies , which aim at the root of the disease - the immune system, and are steroid-free.
After about 2 weeks of using ointment and spray my skin has been cleared up and now I continue with eczema extract, which controls the immune system. My skin has been clear for months now.
It is the only treatment I have found that provides me complete relief when I use it as directed.
