Describe Your Life In One Word

If you were to describe your life in one word what would it be?

Unexpected. And no, not in the “My parents didn't mean to concieve me yet here I am!” way, but the, “My life has been a series of moments that were far from the expected” kind of way.Let me briefly highlight the most “unexpected” events to have happened in my life. Don’t worry, this won't take long :)First, doctors all told my mom she was unable to have children. Then BAM! Here I was, incubated and all. Next, they told her “Ok, so you can get pregnant. Bad news is your child will be born with spina bifida.” Basically this meant I would be born with the inability to walk, meaning I would be wheelchair bound my entire life. Come October, with my parents having already adjusted to the idea of how I would be in need of mobile assistance, I was born 100% healthy— until they later found out I was allergic to peanuts (which I amazingly outgrew).Fast forward into my school years and you’ll find that I, like many other young children, fell in love with the French language. However, the unexpected moment here is that I did not excel so much at French as I did with Mandarin Chinese. I studied abroad at China, and not France; this was a decision my family was shocked to hear about. I became even more in love with China and decided to major in it, stunning all of my extended family. But where do you go if you’re going to major in Chinese? Sure, you can go anywhere, but I have a bad habit of living by the phrase “Nothing bad can come from saying yes”, and so I applied to college in Hawaii. The rest of my family? They all expected I would go to California. Needless to say I’m writing this post three and a half miles from Waikiki. These little moments, and even the ones happening presently, all leave me to believe that my life in one word is best fit for: unexpected.

Describe your life in one word?

First I have my answers, then underneath, in parentheses, a definition or an explanation.

1. Life
(What more is there to say? That encompasses everything life is.)

2. Me-ish
(I don't know how to describe myself. There are many equal parts of my personality that define me.)

3. Real name- My first name is actually a shortened female variant of my mother's mother's father's (my great-grandfather's) name. He had a sister with a longer female version of his name (like how he had a brother and sister named Louis and Louise), but that's a different story. My middle name is after my father's mother's mother (my great-grandmother) who died 8 months before I was born. She was named after her mother's French neighbor.
Y!A name- a nickname that my mom calls me

Describe your life in one word.?

Rewarding...

I'm now retired but looking back, I'd say that I've had a rewarding life, not because I have riches and fortunes or fame , power or beauty but I've tracked a path in life that was challenging enough to make life more meaningful to me. I was able to get an education high enough for me to land a fulfilling career, married to the man of my life who is loving caring and hardworking and a good father to our three children that we brought up in a reasonably permisive environment of love, respect and spirituality . We live simply but comfortably and now trying to live a retirement life enjoying three grandchildren. How rewarding could life be?

How do you describe your life in one word?

Fortunate.thats all…..I have been very lucky to have the right people at the right times in my life….and the wrong times too. Angels all of them! Death, many times, has entered my life as an opportunity, a close reality, a possibility, as well as the last choice left to get out of pain. I have been fortunate to recognize the differences and make a decision that could have been fatal instead of life affirming. There's no way I could have stayed alive without having the good fortune of something grander and more sacred than just myself on my side. Good karma? I don't know…but I'm grateful that so far I've been damn fortunate to still be alive and not living under a bridge like I very well could've been 25 years ago and still could be if certain circumstances explode in my face! My trust in this all-encompassing spirit-ual energy, good fortune, will always get me through rough times. I just know this to be my own truth therefore, I'm a very fortunate woman.
