Did Chevy Make A Malibu Wagon On The 1970

When changing the water pump on a 1997 chevy malibu is it necessary to replace the timing belt?

A 1997 Chevy Malibu does NOT have a timing belt! You did not mention the engine option that is in your Malibu: The 2.4L DOHC 4 cylinder or the 3.1L V-6?

Chevelle Vs Chevelle Malibu?

Like the last guy said, it's just a difference in trim level. At the very least, you could get a Chevelle, a Chevelle Malibu, or a Chevelle SS. Even then there different trim options within the levels. I know the exterior stainless trim is involved. The most I've ever seen is drip rail, wheelwell, and the upper edge of the front fenders (at the creased peak). They did sell malibus with 4 doors. I know where one of them is peacefully rotting till I can buy a garage and a hut to live in next to it. The straight 6 was the base engine. Most of the big-block cars were 396's (402's). If you decide to hold out for an LS6 ('70-'71) you'll be waiting a long time.
Why a '71 though? The '70 and '72 are both better looking...in my opinion. Though the difference between the '71 and '72 (externally) is miniscule.

What is the spark plug gap for 350 Chevy?

The early points type distributor is most happy with the standard of. 35 thousands gap …those are found in your pre 1975 cars and trucks with any motor factory installed. That gap is probably a standard of the auto industry and lots of other enginesThe post 1975 with the hei electronic ignition opens the gap up another .10 to 45 thousands gap. There may be some real late model coil pack type ignitions that are at the 60 thousand gap. But the first two mentioned are the best starting point i have knowledge of …. Make sure you have a idea of approx what year the motor is because a few of them require special irridium based spark plugs. And not the standard R45ts like most chevy small blocks normally use. Good luck i hope this will help you

Auto Repair: How long should brake service normally take?

There is also the issue of skill. Some shops have newer guys do simpler jobs, like maintenance. So it's also very likely the guy was having some trouble. Even at an independent shop 2 hours was about the tops for 4 wheel brake job. We'd order the parts and take it all apart, if machining needed to be done get it started and move to something else.  By time the parts arrived you'd hopefully be able to put some stuff together. You check the parts and if they're right, get it together, if they're wrong you get new parts ordered. The worst I ever had was a brake job that came in around 2, checked it and needed front pads, rotors, and rear drums and shoes. Took it apart and moved on. Checked parts when they came... the rears were all wrong. It was 4 already because delivery gets busy near the end of the day. Assembled fronts and waited until 530 to get rears again. Made sure they were right, gave old ones as exchange and put rears together. It was almost 6. Got the car ready for a brake flush(also sold), performed the flush and let the writer know. It was almost 615 and the customer waited the entire time, needing to get to class. That was the worst.Typically it's 40 minutes in a dealer setting for all 4 without machining, about 60 with. You check them, get parts, and assemble. That's it. Machining is typically very easy if you know what you're doing and you get started ASAP so you can work and machine. In a smaller shop you can hear when they're finished to remind you about them. If you forget though nothing happens and time is wasted. So what you want to do is not wait for your car to be done if you can. Let the shop worry about issues and you can get on with it. If you're on a tight schedule and need the car consider returning when you have more time, brakes very rarely need to be done immediately, as it is with most vehicle repairs.

How much should a good paint job on a 68' Chevelle run me?

I just had my 67 chevelle ss painted this summer and I had a little body work in the trunk that needed done and a couple of places on the doors and front fenders and had the car painted black clearcoat and they had it 3 weeks and it cost me $6,000, but it looks beautiful.

What is the mpg on 65-71 Chevelles?

Basic .... 350 motor with 2 bl carb.... automatic transmission and 2:70 to 2:80 rear gears

This motor will get you about 15 mpg if taken care of and run average NO racing or burn outs.

If you have a more HP setup like the average Chevelle or Malibu
350 4bl Automatic with shift kit and 3:30 to 3:55 gears
You can baby it and get 13 to 16 mpg and normal driving will see 11 to 12 mpg

There is no way to confrim mpg with out just getting out and driving the car 30 miles at least.
Formula is simple , task is more simple.
pick a gas station fill up til it clicks
(stop when it clicks don't stuff gas in there til it runs out on your foot)
pay
then drive 30 miles city hwy out and back, to THAT same pump that same day
fill back up til it clicks (stop)
pay

OK how many gallons do it take to go that 30 miles out and then 30 miles back ?

60 -/- gallons used = ? answer mpg

example my friends 69 GTO I used last weekend
60miles divided by 3.5 gallons = 17.1 mpg

Grandmas Buick MFI V6

60miles divided by 2.22 = 27 mpg

Why do so many people think cars built in 60's & 70's are so much better than cars built today?

When people say that those cars were better, they are coming at this from a very specific viewpoint. Other answers have highlighted that they were, in fact, terrible compared to cars today. But all you have to do is look under the hood to understand the appeal. This is a 1960 Buick. With a little bit of time even I can identify several key components and I know what they do. It’s easy to understand. You can see everything and with a little knowledge you can do simple repairs and maintenance. An ordinary person can change the oil, air filter, replace the battery and check the radiator. (You can do this on new cars too, it’s just not worth it anymore.) You can save money by replacing the spark plugs yourself which also wasn’t hard and with a few more tools and some know how you can even adjust the timing to give the engine that perfect purr. There were a lot of guys who were DIY mechanics who fixed their own cars. (My father being one of them.) They could and did some fairly significant repairs in their garages. A standard set of automotive tools was enough to get by on most problems. It was possible to get to really know your car. This is a 2016 Buick. You might be pretty technical, but you’re not even going to open the hood if it breaks. Just call a towing service and take to the shop. There, they will plug it into a computer and get a diagnosis. It is computer controlled and way beyond the ordinary person’s capability to work on it.This is not a car you will ever know. It’s an alien machine that goes into the Magic shop where they Fix It. It is no more fathomable than your iPhone. The ability to understand your vehicle intimately is long gone.Which is why some people think that those older cars are better.
