Can future scientists find medicine for 'ACQUIRED IMMUNE DEFICIENCY SYNDROME(AIDS)'?
Science has not been able to come up with a cure for the common cold, let alone the HIV virus. Current treatments delay the onset of AIDS, but doesnt really "cure" you. Perhaps future scientists can, gene therapy holds a lot of promise. Those promises still have yet to be delivered. However, ethical and legal issues have to be tackled first before any sort of "cure" an go worldwide.
Could AIDS be a punishment of God against premarital sexual intercourse and immoral people?
No. AIDS is certainly not a punishment imposed by a deity (God, Jehovah, Allah, Ganesh, Zeus, Jupiter, Odin, Rama, Vishnu, or whomever else you wish) if a person decides to have sex out of marriage or does something “immoral.”First of all, the notion that humans have to worship a Deity that claims that He or She (or It) loves everyone but uses fear, intimidation, and destruction to enforce His/Her/Its will on creation is rather disturbing. You’d think that God would exhibit a less brutal parental attitude in dealing with the flaws and foibles of mortal men and women….but clearly, if deities exist (and I am one of those that say they do not), then they are as capricious, duplicitous, and prone to have personality disorders as mortals. (And their constant need for praise and worship…such a reflection of human insecurities.)Second, and several other Quorans have made this point as well, if God existed and created the HIV virus exclusively as a punishment intended only for adulterers, gays/lesbians/bisexuals, then He/She/It is not as omnipotent or omniscient as we are led to believe by all of the major religions, especially the Abrahamic Big Three. I mean, seriously. Creating a virus that can kill anyone whose bloodstream it enters (including babies, first-responders, non-cheating spouses, medical professionals, and even unsuspecting patients who get HIV/AIDS via blood transfusions in a hospital because someone at a blood bank erred is a bit…stupid, is it not? I mean, if God is all-knowing and all-powerful, then it’s not unreasonable to expect Him/Her/It to create a virus that only affects bad people and spares the righteous, no?I’m sure that you’re probably going to respond by saying that AIDS is supposed to be a deterrent and that if one follows a Godly path, then one doesn’t have to worry about getting infected by God’s awesome punishment. Okay, you can say that, but I will disagree.It’s concepts such as this “we must fear the One Being that truly loves us” groupthink that turn me off from religion altogether.
