Did The Amd R9 290 Get A Price Increase

Is This a Good Gaming PC Setup?

I need a new computer and my current laptop is now starting to get outdated with new updates in many games such as Minecraft. My current laptop used to be able to play most games like Skyrim and Minecraft in max settings smoothly in 50 - 60 FPS, but now isn't able to. My parents also are in need of a new computer and they were thinking of taking my laptop after I get a new PC.

THE MORE IMPORTANT STUFF: My budget must be under $2000 and if you can help get it to around $1500 that would be great. I was also going to use my new gaming PC to make games. I am currently learning Java and C++, so I would need it able to render in good quality and quickly. PLEASE feel free to change and remove anything unnecessary.

Here is the link to the setup I was thinking of: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Filonix/saved/#savedbuild_1032614

Do you think that GPU prices will go back to normal in the next 4-5 months? Specifically, the Nvidia GTX 1060/70/80.

My expectations were to see normalization by the end of the year. However the last spike in crypto currency changed my opinion, and I don’t have a good answer for the time being.I was thinking that the GPU and RAM situations would resolve by June 2018, but right now is not a great time because Nvidia is coming up to a generational change from Pascal to Volta, so I think Nvidia is winding down Pascal production to ramp up Volta production, and RAM producers are in the process of transitioning to GDDR6 memory from GDDR5.Both of these issues are going to push back availability of the new cards, and while current gen cards get wound down but demand is high, prices will remain high. The worst case scenario is that new cards have amazing hash rates, and disappear into crypto currency mining rigs. This lowers the likelihood that this level of performance will be targeted by game developers and the cards become ghosts. This is what happened to the R9 290 cards to a degree. Its what has been bleeding over to the RX 4x0 and RX 5x0 cards; they are great value cards with excellent mid-range performance, they just are nearly impossible to get.Of course the bottom falling out of crypto currencies has other problems; it floods the market with low cost cards and makes selling new cards much harder.

How big will my performance increase if I upgrade from a Radeon R7 360 to a GTX 1050 TI?

While your performance gain would be significant, I would consider eking the maximum you can from the R7 for now, unless there is some absolute compelling reason to upgrade immediately.Using MSI Afterburner, you can undoubtedly wring another 5–10 fps out of the settings on your R7 360 to overcome some lag you are experiencing right now. My guess is that you are hovering around 40fps in some AAA title and you would be much happier at 50fps or even 60.A minor peeve of mine is that nine months ago, I spent $160 on a GTX 1060. Now, today, the GTX 1050 Ti’s are going for more than that, and I mean in some cases, well over $300…WTF??? This rant is somewhat beside the point, but I strongly discourage anyone from paying 200% over retail for ANY computer component.Just say no. Make the most of PC hardware you have right now. Wait for prices to regain their sanity and refuse to pay more than fair market value.

Should I get a Nvidia GTX 780 or an AMD R9-290x ?

What will you be using either for are you prepared to pay the cost of the AMD R9-290x what are the rest of your specs is it compatible with what you have ?

What custom PC build do I really need to be able to play VR games?

Since only one other person actually gave you a proper answer, I guess I should help you out. The oculus rift and htc vive both have minimum gpu/cpu requirements of about an rx 480 4g (which has been replaced by the more powerful 580) or the gtx 1060 3g. For all purpose vr, the 1060 6g is the best value, as it has double the vram, which helps with games that require a lot of different things to be rendered at once, or simply for higher graphic settings. However, the 1070 will of course be more powerful, and is in my opinion the “sweet spot” for vr gaming. It provides the best experience for it’s price. It’s noticeably better than the 1060, and higher levels of gpus like the 1080 won’t provide a very noticeable difference. So if you have the money, a 1070, preferably with a non-reference. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend an AMD gpu, as bitcoin mining has driven their prices to unreasonable levels. As for cpu, multiple cores helps for vr, so a ryzen cpu is likely in order, unless you have the money for an i7 8700k. A price range would have been helpful, but since you said “what do I need,” I’ll give a list for a build that will be in the “sweet spot, where you’ll have the best experience possible without the law of diminishing returns kicking in. I won’t give exact parts, because prices change, and you might like a certain look better.Ryzen 7 1700x - only buy if you can get it for about $300Gtx 1070 - any non-reference style16 gb ram - remember, ram speed makes literally no difference in any real-world application, just buy whatever’s cheapest or looks cooler (DDR4 obviously)Any b350 mobo that’s under $100, the x370s are just bells and whistles600 watts or more psu, gold efficiency or higherAny well-rated air cooler, they’re easier to install and have less chance of failure or system damage.Possible upgrades include ryzen 7 1800x, or even core i7 8700k if you have that much, and for the gpu, gtx 1070 ti or gtx 1080. obviously change the mobo if you want the i7.
