Did The Democrats Plan To Shut Down The Federal Govenrment For This

Government shutdown: what is Trump likely to offer to the Democrats in order to end the government shutdown?

Dead on arrival. If he had said: “Send me a spending bill that reopens the government this week, and I’ll sign it. Then let’s together work out wording for a border security measure that also protects DACA and provides for more secure barriers and begins the hard job of immigration reform,” I think the Dems would go for it.That’s not what he said: “McConnell is going to cram my border barrier bill down your throats and you don’t have a choice because it will make you look bad if you don’t agree…Oh, and after that we’ll have a weekly set of pointless meetings here at the White House.”

Why does Trump blame the Democrats for the government shutdown when the Republicans control both the Senate and the House?

Control of the Senate with just over 50% does not mean you can pass anything you want. The spending measure required to do this, per the Senate rules, requires 60 votes to move forward. Even if every Republican senator voted for this it would still fall short by about 9 votes. The house has already passed a bill including what Trump wants, if the Senate is a hold up with full support of the republicans in the Senate, then technically it could be stated that the shutdown was due to the lack of 9 democratic votes.More in reality it is them all not compromising, which is what is needed in the government again. These days it is either the Republican way or the Democrat way and nobody wants to compromise or trade off. This does nothing but hurt people in the long run. The most important thing about negotiation is that nobody should leave the table happy. Everyone gets some of what they want and has to give some ground to the other side.Currently the Democrats in are missing out on great opportunity. Trump is a deal maker, what he wants right now is clear… money for the wall…. what the Democrats are failing to ask is what is he willing to give for it? They very well could go in and ask for DACA to be made into law, A path to citizenship for all DACA recipients etc… If they are willing to say $5B for a bit of the wall is a price we are willing to pay if we get X, Y and Z then they could actually come to an agreement and everyone gets a bit of something out of it. This is how negotiations work and how the government should be figuring out how to get the right things done, not entrenching into their side and refusing to budge.

Why are people blaming the Democrats for the 2019 government shutdown rather than Trump?

You don't see the Trump supporters say anything when Schumer offered 20 billion for his dumb wall last year. The wall Trump walked back on.That was when the Democratic party had ZERO CONTROL OVER THE HOUSE AND THE SENATE. The Republicans had an OVERWHELMING MAJORITY in the House. They had control over the Senate.Remember the “Middle Class tax Cuts?” The Republicans passed the new taxpayers law that cut taxes for the wealthy permanently WITH NO DEMOCRATS on the ticket. How about the record amount of conservative judges conferred in the Senate with Gorsuch and Kavannaugh confirmed without any Democrats in the Senate. So how come Trump could not get a wall built with TOTAL REPUBLICAN CONTROL IN THE SENATE, AND ABSOLUTE OVERWHELMED REPUBLICAN MAJORITY IN THE HOUSE. THE LARGEST IN HISTORY?

When Donald Trump ended the government shutdown, did the Democratic party become more powerful?

No

If the government shutdown persists until January 3rd, what can Pelosi and the Democrats do to reopen government if Trump still refuses to budge on his wall?

What can Pelosi and the Democrats do? They can compromise. That’s the way policy making works. That’s whats going to happen in the end, and everybody knows it, it’s just a matter of when. The president will not get a bill that he approves of 100%, and neither will Congress. Compromise now and get it over with. Stop with the dick measuring contest and do some actual work.Trump was asking for $5B and the Democrats are offering $1.5B. Trump compromised and is now asking for $2.5B. It’s time for the Democrats to accept it or counter offer. It is NOT time for them to sit on their hands and do nothing.People treat politics like professional sports. We all have our favorite team and we want them to win. It’s just natural, right? Wrong! In Washington there are two opposing teams fighting against each other. We all want our side to win. But that’s where the misconception lies. Neither side is our team. There is only one team here and that is the American public. And right now we’re losing, because the two groups that claim to be representing us are actually representing themselves. They want to win for their own glory, not win for us.Do your job, compromise, and do it now. It doesn’t matter who has the ball or who scores. It’s not a game.

If the government shuts down, shouldn't Trump be charged with holding the government hostage?

“If the government shuts down, shouldn't Trump be charged with holding the government hostage?”Quite aside from the fact that it’s simply not a crime (and it’s not), let’s say it is…Why Trump? Aside from the (apparent) fact that you don’t like him?I mean, a government shutdown happens when one side says, “I won’t vote for this budget unless you do X,” and the other side says, “X isn’t happening, unless you agree to Y as well.”Which side is really “holding government hostage”?Democrats wouldn’t vote for it without a “clean” DACA (which has nothing to do with the question of funding the government). Republicans responded by saying, “We’ll give you most of DACA, but you’ve got to give us some concessions, too.”So, why is it that Democrats saying “no budget unless we get our way” isn’t “hostage taking” but Republicans saying, “the budget without your stuff in it is the only one we’re giving you” somehow is?As I see it, either both sides are guilty, or neither is.Oh, and if you read between the lines, you’d note that it would be Congressional Republicans and/or Democrats who would be “guilty” of this non-crime—not Trump. Why? Well, because Trump has no actual power to pass or block a bill, except via veto—and there was no veto threat. Even if “holding the government hostage” were a crime, you couldn’t pin that crime on a man who merely approves of its commission by others.

What are the pros & cons of a government shut down?

Pros: they will not be spending money they don't have, it's ruining the KKK's plans to stage a rally at Gettysburg National Military Park this weekend (according to NBC 10 Philadelphia), Some members of Congress even announced Tuesday, they'd turn over a fraction of their $174,000 annual salary to charity, and the military will get paid during shutdown

Cons: prices will go up, 800,000 federal workers lost jobs and were sent home without a paycheck, the Smithsonian museums were closed and Washington D.C.'s panda cam at the zoo was turned off, we lose money because of prices, National parks, zoos, and memorials will be closed the whole time, and last time they had a government shutdown it cost them $1.4 billion for closing the government and opening it again.

***hope this helped :)***

How long do you think the government shutdown will last?

A week or two.

Should Democrats give in on funding the wall in order to prevent a government shutdown?

Yes but to save face, they should say it is for the good of the American people, which it is.Democrats really haven’t thought this through.
