Did The Driving Age Change In Canada Ontario From 16 To 18

If you are 18 and American, can you drink in Canada?

Technically if you're in one of the 3 provinces with a legal age of 18 then you should be able to drink. But bars here in Calgary (Alberta) are very wary about foreign driver's licenses. They've been burned too often with fakes they'd have no way of knowing looked fake and even legitimate driver's licenses from countries where the date is written differently. An 18 year old from Oregon was visiting my niece a couple of months ago. When he was out at family dinners in restaurants his ID was accepted. When he joined the other 18 year olds and tried to get in to the clubs he was refused entry about half the time. They wanted additional ID and said if his US license was legitimate then he should have a passport. He was way too smart to risk going out to a club with his passport(!), so they’d just go on to a different club. The law is based on the land you're standing on, not where you're from. When my niece moves to BC next fall for University she goes back to being under-age.

Drinking age in Canada, and things to do in Windsor?

You're out of luck for drinking and gambling in a Casino in my province of Ontario. Our age here is 19. If you're bound and determined to party it up, the closest you can do it legally and have a good time, would be Montreal. 6 Hour train ride from Windsor. It's 18 in Quebec.

Should the driving age be raised to 18?

Many students learn how to drive while they are still in high schools, the benefits are the students will have access to their parents’ car and parental supervision during the very important learning stage. By delaying their start age to 18, many of them will leave or college. Without access to a car and parental supervision, there will be a lot more inexperienced drivers on public roadways. The Canadian Automobile Association Approved Driving School Network publishes a Parent-Teen Vehicle Use and Operation Agreement to helps families deal with driving responsibility. Please feel free to download and use it.In most jurisdictions in the U.S. and Canada, the minimum age to obtain a learner’s permit is between 14 and 16. Most jurisdictions would require a waiting period after the learner’s permit is issued before the candidate can take the road test and upon passing, a non-learner driver’s license will be issued. The waiting period is usually one to two years, although some states or provinces will have shorter waiting time. In 43 out of the 50 states, there are mandatory beginner driver education programs for drivers under a certain age, mostly 25.A private car rental company in Ontario has compiled a list of minimum license age requirement for all the provinces. Does Ontario's 19 minimum drinking age apply to Americans? Will bars not serve Americans and how are they portrayed by Canadian media?

The drinking age is always whatever the province has decided the age will be. The drinking age in Canada varies between 18 and 19 years of age depending on what province you're in. So as a visitor you would be allowed to drink at the legal drinking age just like everyone else as long as you have legitimate government ID of some sort. As for rowdiness, Americans in particular are not usually a concern from my experience but rowdiness does happen on occasion in any bar no matter the background of the people. It just tends to be something that can happen. If you're looking to avoid being around rowdy crowds look up the places you're going to before you go. Generally I have found most of our bars to be pretty relaxed. As mentioned in other answers here, the media is very similar to that of the US. Our countries are not incredibly different but we do have our differences. You most likely won't have any issues with any media no matter if your an American or not

Is 16 the age of majority in Canada?

In Canada, there are variety of meanings ascribed to the age of majority. I have provided all the definitions and laws related to the ‘Age of Majority’. These include Sexual Consent, Drinking Age, Voting Age; and the traditional definition of ‘Age of Majority’. These concepts are explained very well on the internet. For your information , I provided the following paraphrased excerpts off of the internet.1)Sexual Consent“The Tackling Violent Crime Act raised the legal age of sexual consent in Canada to 16 from 14, the first time it has been raised since 1892. But the law includes a ‘close-in-age exception,’ meaning 14- and 15-year-olds can have sex with someone who is less than five years older. This law was passed May 1, 2008.”2)Drinking Age“Each province and territory is free to set its own drinking age. The legal age for purchase of alcohol is: 19 years of age in BC, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Northwest Territories, Nova Scotia, Nunavut, Ontario, PEI, Saskatchewan, and Yukon. It is 18 years of age in Alberta, Manitoba, and Quebec.”3)Voting Age“In 1970, a revised Canada Elections Act lowered the voting age and the age of candidacy in Canada from 21 years to 18.”4)Age of Majority“The age of majority in Canada is the age at which a person is considered by law to be an adult. A person younger than the age of majority is considered a "minor child." The age of majority in Canada is determined by each province and territory in Canada and varies between the ages of 18 and 19. Sep 3, 2018.”“The age of majority is 18 in six provinces: Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, and Saskatchewan. The age of majority is 19 in four provinces and the three territories: British Columbia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Northwest Territories, Nova Scotia, Nunavut, and Yukon.Aug 4, 2017.”Regardless of the above definitions, Canadians celebrate the 21st birthday as a major achievement in the lives of their children. This is often marked with a special gift such as a watch, ring or crucifix.thanks very much,I hope this helps,William Ridgway

Is there a law that says an 18 year old can't sell smokes in Ontario?
..and if so, what are the chances of getting caught? I'm 18, if anything, I'd day I look like I'm in my 20s. Would a police officer actually come up and ask me for my ID?

What would happen if the U.S drinking age become 18?

Drinking age is determined by the states, not at the Federal level. So this wouldn’t happen as an all-at-once national change dictated from above. And in many states the drinking age used to be 18 (or 16, or none at all, depending on where and when you look in history). So we already know what “would happen”.The apparent national drinking age is because Congress set an arbitrary number, and then used incentives to see that the states changed their their laws to match. But no state was every required to follow suit. And it took decades to get complete agreement. What happened to cause Congress to push for the 21-year-old limit? So first of all, the drinking age used to be 21 after prohibition. And so was the voting age. It was the draft that pushed the age to vote down to meet the age at which you were eligible from the draft. After all, it’s unfair to be forced to fight for your country if you can’t vote to change the policy about what wars we are in. (Twenty-sixth Amendment to the United States Constitution)The drinking age started to be pushed down to match this age. And then vehicular accidents, especially those involving alcohol, started to go up. Presumably that is what would happen again if we changed the drinking age.

Canadian passport-Parent refuses to give me my passport what can I do? How to apply for passport?

Im 17 years old about to turn 18 on Sept 21, I plan on travelling across the border to Seattle and taking a flight from there the day after my birthday. My dad has my passport and refuses to give it to me. I know that at the age of 16 a Canadian passport is considered an adults. I'm wondering if he has any right to withhold it from me? I would like to look into applying for a new passport but time is running out, I have a month until my travel date. Is it still possible to apply for a passport and how would I do so considering I have one but am not able to access it? Any help or advice would be appreciated, Thanks.

Also I should add before anyone jumps to conclusions, I am not being a "spoiled or ungrateful child". I work two part time jobs and pay for all things I need. Mom and dad didn't buy my phone or computer or iPod etc. I am paying for my own trip and travel costs, the flight is already booked. My father and I do not get along, we aren't close and he isn't really a part of my life, I only visit his house occasionally. I live with my mother currently and help out when money gets tough. I do not ask my parents for anything. My dad does not agree with me leaving the country at such a young age, I understand his concerns but it is has been my dream to travel for the longest time and I finally have an opportunity to make it come true.
