Dirtbike Exhaust System

White smoke coming from exhaust on my Dirtbike?

So I had fresh new oil before I headed out yestarday on my 2004 Honda Crf150f, & yesterday I rode it heavy for a good 4 hours no problems, The bike does not bog at all. But this morning I turned the bike on, Idled it for about 2 minutes, Then white smoke came out the exhaust pipe with a strong smell but the bike never stalled or had weird noises? Thanks!

Dirtbike shooting sparks out of my exhaust?!?!?!?

My 2011 ssr 110 racebike has been running like a champ ever since i hollowed out my muffler, (took baffle out, ect.) tons of power, not too much back pressure, but not too little... anyway the muffler fell off and ive been riding my bike with just the straight pipe.. Right away i noticed a lack in my horsepower and way too much back pressure from just this straight pipe.. anyway i rode down to my local store (not even a mile away) to get some oil and gas.. while on my way to the store i was in 4th gear my normal 55-60mph cruise and i decided to let off the throttle alittle bit to get a crack of a backfire to echo but as i let off it seriously jolted and sputtered like 2 quick times and then KABAAAAAM! i look back in shock of what i hear and see as orange flames and sparks shoot out and soon to follow my bike dieing in 4th and me having to push my bike to the store.. luckily i got some oil and Gas, nursed it up a bit and it started right up. on my way home it died 3 times on me, each time it died i had to wait 5 minutes before starting my bike up again.. and its running soooo slow.. my normal 55-60mph 4th gear cruise is now a 40mph cruise.. and there is an insane amount of back pressure. What the heck is going on?!?!?! will my bike run like it used to once i put my new muffler on.. and yes im going to hollow the new one out aswell.

Is it bad to have a crack in your exhaust pipe (Dirtbike)?

It will not hurt the engine with a leaking exhaust muffler.
The spark arrestor is incorporated in the muffler.
A potential fire hazard if a spark were to escape and ignite some dry brush.
JB Weld will seal up the hole.

Would it benefit my dirt bike to take the baffle out of the exhaust pipe? it is an '04 CRF150F.?

Well I hate to disagree with everyone. It is true that removing the baffle will not make a big difference in power but it will help some. Honda actually published a technical bulletin explaining what they call the "Power Up Mod" for the CRF150F and CRF230F. It involves removing the baffle, modifying the air box and re-jetting the carb. Go to www.thumpertalk.com and search the CRF150F section for "power up mod" or "power up kit" for more details or just visit your local Honda dealer. They printed it off for me.

Why don't 4 stroke dirt bikes have fat exhaust pipes?

The "fat" pipes are because of the much larger expansion chamber. A 4 ST would be hurt from the larger volume. The effect would be to flatten the torque curve and raise the RPM where it starts to kick in. Basically, it's a scavenging issue. A 2 ST needs as little back pressure as possible while a 4 ST benefits from a little back pressure as it helps in scavenging. The net effect is to create a low pressure zone close to the exhaust port as the valve is opening.

Why is smoke coming out my bikes exhaust?

There are many factors that causes smoke , depending upon the smoke colour you can find the cause to some extendBlack or grey smoke - smoke may be coming from incomplete fuel combustion. possible causes are clogged air filter, Carburetor, choke, fuel injection or emission system malfunction, Blocked manifold, Oil leaking on exhaust systemBlue smoke - Engine oil being burned. possible causes are Oil leaking into combustion chamber, Worn piston rings, valves or cylindersWhite smoke - Coolant and/or water being vaporized in combustion chamber. possible causes are Engine too cold (no repair needed), Head gasket leaking, Cracked block or cylinder head.

2 stroke run without exhaust?

a two stroke engine is designed to have a certain amount of back pressure in the exhaust. the expansion chamber (exhaust pipe) if a highly engineered variable diameter tube that necks down to the tail end to provide the appropriate backpressure on the exhaust coming out of the engine.

you might get it to run, but it will run extremely poorly with little to no power. this could also expose dust, rocks, debris, etc. to cause extreme damage to your piston & cylinder. I would highly recommend you not riding the bike without an exhaust.

also, I seriously doubt you can find a 4 stroke exhaust that comes any close to fitting up to the cylinder exhaust port ... and even if you did, it would not be tuned to create the necessary back pressure for the engine to run properly.

there are a number of places to look for a used exhaust that will fit your bike, craigslist, ebay, numerous online dirt bike forums with classified ads... don't pinch pennys or get all ansy to ride causing damage to your bike. just save until you have enough to buy one... used or new.

What are the benefits of an FMF pipe on a dirt bike?

Pros:
A *LITTLE* more power/torque/different delivery
Louder

Cons:
Louder
Costs money for power you probably won't use/feel
Requires lots of time and effort correctly tuning carb to make it work, or remapping for FI bikes

There are only a few cases where a new exhaust will make much difference or matter. One example is the DRZ400S/SM, where the bike is really corked up from the factory, but a new exhaust system+airbox mods and correct reject can boost power by 7-10%. Most race bikes aren't like that though.
