Disability Car Park In Disabled Spot Without Blue Badge

Should a car with a disability plate or displayed placard be prohibited from being parked in a non-designated spot during high volume use times?

As a result of a head injury , and injuries to both hands sustained whilst serving in the Army, I was issued with a disabled permit (blue badge in the U.K.) I park as close to a store as possible usually in a disabled bay but occassionally when these are already full in a regular parking bay. If there is no bay close enough I just give up and have to go elsewhere. When I park in a disabled bay I regularly get people coming up to me, claiming I am not disabled, or I have no right to park in the bay. I politely advise these indivuals to contact both the M.O.D. and the local council, there is no point in getting into a confrontation. The M.OD. to advise them of the injuries I had sustained on duty, and the council who confirmed this before issuing the badges.I am 6′00″ large build and appears to be for all intents and purposes a normal individual who doesn’t use a wheelchair. This is the main problem, the majority of the public only consider those in wheelchairs as disabled and don’t consider those with other hidden or less visible disabilities as needing any extra assistance or parking privileges. The biggest causes of disabled drivers having to park in non-disabled parking bays are:a. Not enough provision given for disabled parking.b. None disabled drivers without a disabled sticker/permit / blue badge parking in disabled bays because they are too inconsiderate or selfish to walk the extra 20m to the store. I regularly see white vans, commercial vehicles, Police vehicles parked in Disabled bays at my local mall.c. Poorly position disabled bays. At a popular restaurant in Plymouth the disabled bays are separate from the main parking lot. But as I found out if you parked in them, you were likely to suddenly find yourself trapped for extended periods by vehicles delivering goods to the premises. I found out local disabled customers don’t use them but park in the regular parking lot.I was stuck here for almost an hour!

Do you ever park in a disabled spot with out a badge?

Never! I work in the disability field so i know how important those spots are. My mother also has a disability and i have a temporary one is it's made me so aware of how important those spots are. It makes me angry to see people park in the that don't have a sticker!

In Australia you can get these labels that you can stick on the windscreen of people who park in the spot with no sticker. I also think fines for this should be higher!

Can a person with autism get a disabled parking placard?

Nobody can park in the disabled parking spaces without having a disabled parking placard. Since your friend did not have a placard at the time she parked in the disabled parking space, she will not get out of paying the ticket even if she does get a placard for her autistic daughter. She broke the law by parking there without a placard and getting a placard does not change anything about her previous parking violations.

Far from all people with disabilities qualify for a disabled parking placard. People with disabilities can sometimes get a placard if they either have a limited ability to walk long distances, or if they cannot cross a regular parking place safely, or if they need a wider space to get mobility equipment in and out of their car.

Some parents of children with autism can get a disabled parking placard, but in order to get one the child generally needs to have severe behavioral issues that could compromise their safety.

If your friend only wants a placard to get out of paying the ticket, she should forget about it. If she thinks that she honestly needs a placard in order to get her daughter safely to places, she can consult her daughter's doctor to get documentation to back up her claim and then she can apply for a placard, but there is still no guarantee that she will get one. Applications are evaluated on a case by case basis.

Why do able bodied people park in disabled parking spaces.?

You are spot on! You can stand in any supermarket car park and see people take the first available disabled bay and then sprint off to the shops ..... it's nothing short of greed and contempt for society. It would be great to clamp these guys and let them prove disability before the car goes free. To me, that's a far greater offence than parking without paying say.
But you know something, they are all disabled in some way ... suffering from poor brain power, poor vision and they all suffer from 'I'm all right Jack syndrome .... .... take some pity on them. Not! I report them to the supermarket and ask for a ticket to go on their cars ....

Should an able bodied person be allowed to park in a disabled space?

The whole thing needs sorting out in the York area and probably more too.

I can take my Jag or XC90 into York and park FREE OF CHARGE anywhere really, even down one of the narrowest streets in York, Fossgate as long as I have my Aunt with me - and of course her disability badge.

I can stay there all day and pay NOTHING!

In a car park I would be paying at least £2.40 per hour. EXCUSE ME??? Who was it determined that disabled people could not pay parking charges? Some council numpty who is afraid of PC'ism?

What the hell is wrong with the people in our country who will not fight back? IT IS OUR MONEY AFTER ALL, IT DOES NOT BELONG TO THE POLITICIANS WE HAVE ELECTED - WHO - CAN - BE DESELCTED in favour of UKIP or those who will do what WE HAVE ELECTED THEM TO DO!

Is it ok if spouse of disabled person to use the disabled parking spaces (TAG)when the spouse is NOT disabled.

Kudos to your spouse!!! There are many people out there that will take advantage of that handicapped tag. My in-laws are just such people. They have handicapped tags and I have NO idea why?!?!?! I know that a doctor has to approve of this and I don't know WHAT they've told a doctor to get them, he draws disability but doesn't have a physical disability. They're just lazy!

Be proud of your spouse's morals & values. He/she is doing the right thing & is setting a good example for others, especially your daughter!

Blue badge missuse, on allocated spot?

Couple of things here. She should not use the car whilst her father is in hospital. Secondly, disabled spaces in urban streets marked on the road outside houses are not actually enforceable. Technically anybody can park on them. Disabled spaces in council car parks covered by proper blue disabled signs are enforcable. Don't believe me? Contact your local council for confirmation.
