Disc Drive Has Stopped Working

My external hard drive stopped working all of a sudden and when I try to open it, is asking me to format it. How do I make it work again?

I don’t have a lot of time to write a proper answer, but I want to leave with a place to start before I come back and edit this response.Whatever you do, do not format it. Although it is recoverable at that point, it’s a pain. Most of the time when you get to this point, it’s a controller failure on the hard drive itself. Sometimes this is circumventable and sometimes it just requires using software like “EaseUS: Partition Master” in partition recovery mode. Other times, it requires more work.Google the Partition Master partition recovery mode I mentioned, and only use the safest routes recommended in the tutorials for now. If the issue persists and recovery mode doesn’t find anything, there’s some steps you can take to manually backup all of your files (if they’re accessible at all regardless of the weird formatting error; uses yet another specialized software that’s user friendly) before you should try anything more drastic. It is also possible that the controller is completely toast and you’d have to purchase an identical drive and have a technician replace the controllers to make it work again. It’s also possible there’s more than just that wrong with it.I’m sorry if this isn’t instilling hope or very helpful at the moment. I promise I’ll come back to this and answer any comments you leave, as well as expound upon this answer when I get the chance.

"game.exe has stopped working"?

I downloaded and installed Oblivion from Steam. Installation was fine but when I launched the game it went to my desktop with a little black box in the upper corner and a message appeared saying "oblivion.exe has stopped working". I've tried many other games too and none of them worked either, both disc games and digital copies....they all did the exact same thing. So I ruled out my oblivion.exe file being corrupted because every game I've ever tried did this....There's something with my computer that's causing the .exe's to crash....maybe a setting or something? I've seen many other people with this problem who have found solutions but none of them worked for me....and I've tried lots of stuff. I'm thinking it could be my video card isn't good enough...I have an Intel G33/G31 Express Family Chipset, which as I understand, is inadequate for gaming. It could also be a program I've got installed that's somehow altering the way my PC views .exe files or is corrupting them somehow...I'm not sure...besides the graphics card I checked my computer specs and they should be capable of playing a game like oblivion...Its only like a 3 year old computer...and oblivion came out in 2006 for windows so my PC is plenty new....I have Windows Vista if that makes a difference. I bought this computer while I lived overseas so maybe the software on it isn't compatible with games in America....like an uncompatible area code or something. I have no idea but this is about all I can think of. Any suggestions would be really appreciated. I hope I can get this sorted out so I can upgrade some things in my computer so I can play Skyrim when it comes out next fall ;) Thanks for the help people, and taking the time to read this HUGE question :)

Sims3 launcher has stopped working?

Erase it and do these

How to Install: 1.- Burn the ISOs into DVD´s or Mount with Magic Iso (Magic Disc) Tool.. as Virtual Drive so you can get access without burning, then use Autorun or select setup.exe, select language and proceed. 2.- Inside the Isos you can find the "Crack" folder which cointains 2 versions of the crack and a keygen, use the last to get a serial when prompted, then continue to install, by half of the proccess will as 4 a disc that may cointain (X) data to continue, well logically we insert Dvd2 here (if its virtual just select again the correct mount drive) and procced, then 4 a second time just before we finished the intall will ask 4 the disc cointaining (X.mp3) data, here we insert back the Dvd1 after this we are done!, (the EA Download Manager) its not fully necessary. 3.- Finally we enter again to the Crack folder and copy the .exe almost sure will be the 10.7mb by Razor, that work better, ok then we go to the install game folder: c:program files/EA/the sims3/game/bin. Here we paste the crack (.exe) and will ask if we where sure to replace it? oviusly we select yes!. (Optionally we can crate a Direct Access to Destop of this one), using it will skip the Lunch Game box and go to the main game directly. 4.- "Important" If using a Firewall´s, we must block (Sims 3 Luncher) to internet, otherwise we wont be able to run the game. 5.- Just Run the Game and Play

Home cd player stopped reading discs.?

I have an older Sony CDP-261 single tray home stereo component cd player that has stopped reading discs. I removed the cover to check it out and thoroughly clean the interior components and lens. When a disc is inserted, it rotates a few degrees and makes a clicking sound numerous times, then stops rotating and the the display reads "no disc" at this point. Changing discs and manually turning the disc with my finger changes nothing.

Throughout the life of the player, it occasionally does this when a disc is dirty or scratched. Cleaning or changing the disc solved the problem. Now it is continuous regardless of disc.

Any advice about fixing this would be helpful. Thanks.

How would a disc drive cope with a dirty disc surface when burning?

When burning discs , it generally dont avoid the dangers of miswrites.Thats why some disc burning had the option of Verifying the Data burned on discs. Therefore you dont simply write a disc and expects everything to be fine. You need to verify and validate the contents on the discs. The simple method of verifying is to copy and paste to your desktop, and comparing the file hash. And lots of my company sales person always shout at me when i take an hour to burn a DVD+R. Because i need to verify data on the discs. Discs given to customer must not fail, as it reflects on the conpany competency. My KPI tanks while reputation of company doesn't drop due to faulty discs. Its not exaggerate to call me the Silent Company Hero!!! And yes your right, i am the IT admin

PowerDirector has stopped working - error message?

When I select set user preferences or create disk and either try to "create a folder" or "burn to disc" it crashes. I get the error above "PowerDirector has stopped working" I am logged in as a administrator, I have burned disc before, I have room on my hard drive, I tried re-installing it, I have no idea what it is going on. I spent the last four hours trying to figure out. I was considering upgrading to V12, but if I am going to have the same issues, what is the point. Note that I can preview the whole movie without it crashing, its just when I try to make a product or adjust the settings. I purchased the software and have a valid activation key. I have tried just making a movie with two pictures and no sound, same result. Any ideas?

How to fix a DVD/CD Drive won't stop spinning and won't eject?

Hi,

I have a HP dv6500 Notebook and the DVD/CD drive will not stop spinning (even when there is nothing in it) and it won't eject either. Also when I look for the drive under my computer and the device manager it doesn't show up, there's not even a section for a DVD/CD drive under the device manager. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this?
