Discoloration After Hitting My Forehead

How long does it generally take for a bruise to form after being hit in the face?

Bruises vary according to the injury. The color of a bruise is used as a very crude indication of the timeframe of injury in those suspected of being victims of abuse, but bruising is not always present after injury and is not even a good indicator of the extent of injury except in the most general fashion. A severe injury may not be readily apparent to the eye, while extensive bruising can distract from other injuries of greater concern. In children determining the cause of bruising may require the opinion of an expert to differentiate between accident, abuse, or medical conditions which can cause discoloration or bruising (hemophilia, leukemia, birthmarks etc.)The vivid purple color most people associate with bruising generally takes over a day to be readily visible, though sometimes it can appear in a few hours. It is important for investigators and first responders to be aware that injuries may only become "visible" days later, if ever. An astute investigator will look for redness or swelling, which if very soon after an injury (such as a relatively mild single blow to the face) may be best spotted as slight asymmetry to the shape of the face.A crude timeframe for the color of bruising over time follows, but again the specifics vary for each injury:Redness/swelling - immediate to 2 daysBlue/purple - 2 to 5 daysGreen - 5 to 7 daysYellow - 7 to 10 daysBrown fading over time - 10 to 14 days

Why do we get a bump when we hit our head on something?

The force damaged the local blood vessels, which will bleed, causing blood to collect locally and stop flowing when the pressure from the surrounding tissues are high enough stops the bleeding, this is the bump you feel. The blood also attracts fluid, and an inflammatory response, making it swell even more. After some time it will be gone, resorbed by our body by itself.

My tooth hurts when i hit my.head?

It is very common to have a dental pain when you have congested sinuses. Do not worry about your tooth yet. At first, you should recover from your sinus problem and then if your tooth still hurts, you should see a dentist. If you have a cold, you can take Sudafed or any other decongestant to help you to recover sooner. If you do have a sinus infection, you may need an antibiotic. .

How long will it take for a knot on your head to go away?

Not every bump in the head results in serious injury.

The forehead and scalp have an abundant blood supply. As a result, any injury to these areas often results in bleeding under the skin. When the bleeding is restricted to one area, it causes a swelling, or goose egg. Doctors refer to this as a hematoma.

Keep in mind that the size of the swelling isn't necessarily an indication of the severity of the head injury. Even a minor bump can cause a large goose egg. To reduce the swelling, apply ice to the injury as soon as possible. Although the swelling usually goes away within a few days, skin discoloration may persist for one to two weeks. If you're still concerned about your child's head injury, even if it seems minor, you should contact your doctor.

Why does my baby have a dent on her forehead? She has not fallen off of anything or hit her head on anything.?

Depending on how old she is, it's normal - a baby's head does not fully develop until well after 12 months of age...until then, the plates are still moving and forming her skull (ie: the soft spot...) Both of mine had odd shapes and dents in their heads and are fine now!
