What are the best life hacks for dealing with ADHD symptoms?

As someone who has dealt with ADHD all his life, these are my best “hacks” for dealing with ADHD.Have a place to write stuff down all the time. I have a little Field Notes notebook in my pocket at all times. This way when my brain says, “Oh, man! I have an idea! Let’s do this!” I can simply write it down then and there. (Have a pen handy too.)Use caffeine. I’m a coffee addict and it regulates me very well. Use it at your leisure. Experiment with it. See what works.Over-communicate to your loved ones. If you are having a really rough ADHD day when your attention is all over the place, let people know. You tell people when you have a headache, right? So it’s no difference when your attention is hijacked. I simply tell people, “Hey, my ADHD is driving the bus right now.” This way they KNOW where I’m at. I can usually remedy that by taking a nap, drinking a huge glass or water or going for a walk to clear my head. I’ll also do some free writing and offload all the stuff on my brain.Evernote the Bleep Out of Your Life. I use Evernote to get stuff done. It keeps track of my notes, PDFs and anything—absolutely everything—gets put in here so I can search it and find it—from my taxes to my car information, gift ideas to the random stuff that just shows up. Anything valuable I write down during my day winds up in Evernote. We ADHD people are crap at short term memory—it all gets offloaded here.I write about productivity and success over here. Getting stuff done mostly. If you dig this post, if you would upvote it, I’d appreciate it. Or share it. That’s cool too.—Ryan, the ADHD Nerd

What jobs are best for people with ADD/ADHD?

I work on an archaeological dig team ... one of my coworkers said he has one of the two you listed and this job is great for it. He said that if he gets distracted - by a bird or something - it's easy for him to pick up where he left off.

Honestly, I think you should figure out what interests you most and look into that. Maybe if you find something that interests you there won't be as much opportunity for you to be distracted or whatever. After looking into what interests you, look into that interest's daily tasks and see how much being distracted would be, well, you know, I would definitely not recommend being an air traffic controller, for sure, since there is a possibility of casualties if you day dream at the wrong time. - - This is what I've been trying to do for myself. It's been suggested (by a professional - though not diagnosed as we didn't discuss it in detail) that I have ADD. Regardless, I get distracted and bored !very! easily, so I have to find something super interesting. The dig team is working well except for the summer heat (so far, I can deal, but we'll see how that is further into the summer). Food service was torture! Retail was as well, but that may be because I'm not really social when it comes to random strangers and when someone is b*tchy to me I'm likely to return the attitude or at least show my annoyance.

Is taking Adderall everyday safe?

They give it to kids at like age 6 to take daily. Daily use is fine within reason. Those 6 year olds are out there, all happy with heads full of pharmaceutical grade speed. If you do not have a prescription, thats where the true danger lies. You will catch yourself a case if your caught with even 1 of those magic pills. And you will be villianized. Permanently labeled. So yes, taking it everyday is absolutely safe, as long as you remember to take it, not forget it in your pocket with the hole in it, sending down, bouncing off the floor, to land right in front of the DMV security guard. His job is so boring, hes gonna have the book thrown at you.

What are tips, hacks, and strategies for ADHD parents?

Here's a guide you might find useful: 6 Ways to Increase Your Child’s Attention Span (Without Medication). One that I especially liked was number 4:4. Practice deep breathing.Kids who have a hard time concentrating are often inefficient breathers. It makes sense! Without enough oxygen, the brain and body can’t function properly. So teach your child to deep breathe. Stand in front of a mirror and tell them to inhale. Did their shoulders rise and fall? If so, the air only filled the top of their lungs. Now have them lie on their back. Put a toy on their belly. Ask them to raise the toy as high as they can by breathing in. This trains them to use their diaphragm to completely fill their lungs with air.Now comes the fun part — practice! One way is with wind instruments. Try a harmonica, recorder or ocarina.Or do any activity that require sustained exhalations, like bubbles, balloons or singing. And, of course, number 6:6. Let them exercise.Kids who exercise show improved IQ and school performance. Not to mention the other health benefits of play and exercise. This is especially true for kids who have a hard time sitting still. Give them 15 minutes before quiet time to work out their energy. It will make focusing much easier. Not to mention that kids these days barely EVER have time for free play. But play and exercise are crucial parts of a child's emotional, cognitive, social and physical development. In fact, by 1979 Standards, most 1st graders are now physically and emotionally stunted. Kids who spend more time playing without supervision are less likely to have anxiety issues as adults. And. Honestly, a little bit of risk and independence are crucial parts of childhood, and I think the rise we're seeing in ADHD is related to the disappearance of free play. If you don't feel safe or confident about letting your child play outside, check out Playborhood Your Neighborhood - The Best Gift You Will Ever Give Your Child. Or read Playborhood: Turn Your Neighborhood Into a Place for Play, by Mike Lanza and/or Free-Range Kids, How to Raise Safe, Self-Reliant Children (Without Going Nuts with Worry), by Lenore Skenazy. These books will tell you everything you need to know to make your neighborhood safe for your child, and how to coordinate with other parents near you to optimize safety and fun for our children.
