Do braces really help?
Yes, but only if you follow the instructions of your orthodontist with utmost care.I had gap between my teeth and they were not even in proper shape. So I had a problem with a proper bite. I first went to my orthodontist in 2013. She recommended me to wear braces.In the beginning she applied fixed braces on my teeth. Believe me those 1–2 weeks after wearing braces were the hardest. I couldn't even feel my teeth for first 2 weeks. I had problems with eating as well.I used to visit my orthodontist every month since then. Many people get tired of this routine & leave the treatment in between. I followed the routine for almost two and hard years.Finally it was time to remove fixed braces. I was happy until my orthodontist gave me retainers (braces that can be removed anytime). She said teeth have tendancy to return back to their previous shape & positions. So I had to wear retainers everyday to let my teeth fix at their new position.I still wear them whenever I feel the need but that's very rare. First day with braces and my teeth really hurt?
so I just got my braces on today, and I hate them. My mouth hurts so bad and I look so ugly in them. I already have really low self esteem, and these just made it worse. I have those coily spring things on my wire in 3 different places, and it sucks.3 different places!! plus I have a cross bite, and I have to wear rubber bands from the start. they put like a hook type thing on the inside of my mouth, behind my teeth. not like the traditional where there is a hook on a top bracket and then a hook on the bottom. there is a hook from the inside of my tooth to the outside on a bottom bracket. it is constant scraping against my tongue and I tried eating with it and it just really hurts my tongue and it's hard to chew! please help :(

I had braces for two and a half years and I would not say they hurt. When they put them on they glue metal squares to your teeth, this does not hurt at all! Then they run wires through the metal squares, but this does not hurt either. They use little rubber bands to keep the wires on your teeth and none of it hurt when they put it on. The thing that hurt was about an hour after I got them tightened (each time once a month). My teeth felt itchy and my gums itched. If you need to ease the pain, brush your teeth, rub your gums, use something warm on your mouth and even gargle with some warm water. The heat really helps to ease the pain quite a bit. GOOD LUCK!
I just got braces yesterday and they hurt really bad! Help please?
ok so yesterday i got my braces on and they have been hurting really bad lately! I cant stand it. It hurts soo much! What can i do to make the pain go away or atleast to ease the pain??

Braces in your teeth, you mean?. I'm not 11-14, i'm much more older...uuuffff, but i did have braces for 8 years, and honey, at first they do hurt, but later you get used to them. Don't worry, you'll be fine. Eat at the begining just soft food. You could lose a teeth.
Does it hurt to get braces?
No... Its not true what people say, i got braces on a year ago and i still have them.. Smile-N-Profilen! lol.. anyway, no it does not hurt when your sitting in the chair. belive it or not right after i got my braces on, i went to school, then went to zaxbys to eat (it was hard to eat though, lol)then we went ot test drive a car, it was about 4-5 hrs until mine started hurting.. but plz trust me its not worth freaking out.. just take an advil right before you sit in the chair! and drink it down with a milk shake. trust me,, it does not hurt i was soo scared that i cried almost every night before i got them on. its not worth stressing about. when i was done i was like, am i done. i promise :) GL on the big day :) it will be worth it
How badly does braces hurt?
Hey Angie, From my experience braces like sort've like an annoying thing to deal with. It doesn't really hurt when you first get them on. What I found the three hardest things to deal with were: the expander, the tightening, and the rubberbands. These KILL since it's constantly getting changed and re-done. The expander was to expand my top part of the mouth for some reason (can't remember now) but after it's on for 2-3 weeks it gets way easier and doesn't hurt cause it does not get changed. But the rubberbands and tightening of the braces kill...I was always sore after an appointment and couldn't eat solid food for a few days. Like I said, it's just annoying to deal with. It's hard to brush the first few days too, but easier once you get the hang of it. And it's annoying when one of the brackets break because you have to go get it changed and it may delay the time of when you can take the braces off (this happened to me several times). You can't eat gum, but I skipped that rule. I find that if its not too sticky like gumballs because after a while they lose the taste and becomes like a rubberball in your mouth. Try to avoid hubba bubba, or hard-like candies such as jolly rancher. They'll break the brackets of the braces and need to be replaced. After the braces are removed you feel weird cause it's been there for so long! But in a way your happy cause you got some new nice kick a*s teeth. Also, depending on the seriousness of your teeth you may take it off sooner which spares the pain. You also may wear retainers before to get you ready for the braces. Or, you may wear it after (usually most kids with braces wear it after and some both before and after). The point of the retainers is to keep your teeth in place, and you'll wear that for at least 2 years. But no worries, you don't need any appointments or anything you just wear them for awhile and there removable, and sometimes inconvenient but way better than braces. All in all, I think it was definitely worth it. Oh and if your young it's better to get it now than if you were say, going to college or something. Hope I helped! :)
