Do Dogs Always Know How You Feel

How come dogs always try to sniff my balls?

Maybe they smell good!!!

Do dogs know when you are sad?

Absolutely. Everytime I'm sad( like really sad) almost instinctively I will be in a completely different room than my dog(s) and one of the them will just open my door(door isnt all the way closed) and will come and start wagging her tail and wiggling and licking me, and curling up in my lap like I haven't seen her all day when in reality I just saw her 5 minutes ago.
I can be going thru soooo much stuff and they seriously always comfort me.
More than people, actually.

Why are dogs always so happy when you get home?

It amazes me. A 30 minute trip to the store will drive my dogs nuts soon as I get home. If it's a 2-3 day trip I am bombarded with 3 dogs dying to kiss me.

What is it in dog psychology behind this? Other than dog is man's best friend? lol

Do dogs feel sad?

Yes. Like human beings dogs display a lot of emotion. The most common which I've observed with my dog is that whenever we (family) start packing our suitcases he gets the indication of our absence for quite a while. He then places his head on my(or any family member) hand and innocently looks at my face. This is what I mean.Image source: Google Images

Why do dogs always want to eat what you are having instead of eating their own food? Is dog food really that bad?

It's not that the dog food is bad, it is that dogs are social animals and they want to do whatever you are doing.    Pack members share their food, even if it isn't very good food, they all eat it together. I have a friend who brings her dog over to my house.  One evening we were eating matzoh (a plain unsalted cracker) while we were waiting for dinner to finish cooking.  I gave the dog a piece of matzoh and she put it on the ground and didn't even think it was food.  So I made a big show of eating my matzoh, and her owner made a show of eating her matzoh, and then the dog ate her matzoh.  She didn't really like it but since we were eating it she went along with us.

How do dogs immediately know which objects are dog toys, and which are just random objects? Are dog toys treated with a special scent? Do dogs recognize similarities in scent or physical form to previous toys? Do humans give subtle behavioral hints?

I can think of 4 possible explanations off-hand, any or all of which may apply:1) Your dog recognizes the materials used to make dog toys. Do you typically get certain type(s) of toy for your dog? If so, your dog is likely to recognize the scent of the material as a toy versus any other item you bring home. 2) Your dog picks up on your behavioral clues. If you typically come home and say "I've got a surprise for you!" or something like that and it is followed by a toy, then that's how your dog knows. If your dog is especially in tune with you, she may be able to pick up the excitement or joy you have knowing you're about to give her a toy.3) Your dog knows what you typically buy with toys, and so knows that if  the other item is there, a toy is likely to be in the bag as well. For  example, if you typically buy toys from the pet store when you buy food,  then if your dog smells a bag of dog food then she'll look for a toy  also. Dogs are really good at determining routines and patterns, so if there's a pattern to your shopping your dog may have figured it out.4) Your dog smells other dogs on the toys and not other items. If you bought it at a store where dogs are welcome, there's a good chance other dogs have sniffed and even licked the toy. This would set it apart from other items and indicate it as being of higher interest to a dog.Aussies are very smart dogs. If there's something to be figured out, they'll do it. Hope this is helpful!

Do dogs know when you're sick?

I've come to think that dogs know when you're sick, and that they try to comfort you. Whenever someone has ever gotten sick at my house, our dogs would lay in the bed with you (for DAYS!) until you get better. My mom's dog was so bad about this he caught her stomach bug as well as a cold or two. It's like they know that you're sick! And today my husband had his wisdom teeth removed. That's not even an illness! Yet my dog who usually avoids him, hasn't left his side since we got home (some 6 or so hours ago). She just lays there in the recliner with him, waiting for him to get up. Do all dogs do this? What's up with that? I think it is just too cute!

How do dogs know when you’re sad?

Dogs — and some other social animals — are intently attuned to body language as a means of communication. It’s why your dog will always know if you’re approaching it to put medicine in its ear, or that you’re waiting to hear the knock of the pizza delivery guy. It’s impossible for a human to lie to a dog, because they’re so cognizant of or posture, our muscle tension, even the speed of our heartbeat.I remember once reading of a “counting dog” that could bark the requested number of times. When his owner was put behind a screen, the dog suddenly lost the ability to count, even though he could clearly hear the number his owner was saying. There hadn’t been any deception intended. The dog was simply able to read his owner’s posture and tension. When the dog reached the correct number, the owner would relax slightly, indicating to the dog he should stop barking. When you’re upset, your face is likely crinkled with tension, your shoulders are slumped, and your footsteps are slow. You don’t do the things you normally do. The dog knows something is wrong. He also knows if he cuddles up to you and licks your hands that you’ll pet him. You’ll smile through your tears if he rolls over and shows you his belly. Maybe he’ll bring you a toy and try to coax you into play. He’s trying to “fix” your hurt the only way he knows how. He knows when he’s hurt or scared, snuggling up to you makes him feel better. He’s trying to give you the same medicine.

How does a dog know when you are self-harming?

I used to self-harm and currently don't anymore. But I remember that my dog used to always jump up when I was doing it, and if I kept doing it, he'd jump on me and growl until I'd stop. Can he just feel the negativity or something?

Please don't lecture me and just answer the question. Thank you. <3
