Do High Schools Have Academies What Are They And What Do They Do

How do you get into Bergen County Academies AAST?

I live in the Jersey area (and I'm pretty sure you do to because the school is in Jersey), and I tried out for BA and didn't make it. I did pass the test, which included for me, (btw this is last year because I'm a Freshman at my high school) a written section consisting of an essay on two stories I believe and math questions. I'm pretty sure your cousin got a sample math test in the Open House, and she should definitely look at that.

Advice:
1. Try your hardest in school to get good grades.
2. Get on the good side of at least (but better if more than) 3 teachers, because you need them for recommendations.
3. Important: Get on the good side of your guidance couselour, because he/she helps you with the application and stuff, and his/her recommendation matters also.
4. For the test, read some books if you don't already, try to pay a little more attention in reading comprehension in school, no biggie.
5. Also, for the test, complete the sample math test and then look at the answers. If you got answers right and you guessed, or if you got answers wrong, try them yourself and ask your math teacher. If you have to, go after school for help.
6. In the interview (if you get there, that is), try to be natural and don't try to really impress them by saying you get good grades and all that, unless they ask you, which they didn't for me. They asked me weird questions like "What do you think about the show American Idol?" They also told us to talk to the person next to us for 5 minutes and describe them. I'm not saying these will be your questions, but just expect some more deep, thought out questions. Lastly, smile! I'm not saying that you should smile until your mouth hurts, but just be natural like I said before.

That's about it. I noticed that no one answered this question before I did, so I do expect a "Best Answer" unless someone else posts a better response because I usually don't answer questions. Best of luck to your cousin.

Bergen County Academies/Bergen Technical High School (READ MORE)?

Im going to be applying to all three schools (Bergen County Academies , Bergen Technical High School Teterboro/Paramus. Incase i dont get in one i have another chance of getting into another two.

I was wondering do they make you fill the applications before the Open Houses or after? I was just wondering because they were be very specific not to be late filling in the application. And do you have to fill one online and/or send them one ?

I don't know if im late for Bergen Technical High School Paramus because i was looking at there application and it said "Must Submitted by March 25 2011" which pasted already. Dont you have to go to an Open House to see if its the right school first? Bergen Tech High School Paramus didnt even have a Open House yet. The thing that is confusing about it is that when i click download and i choose BTH Paramus it has the application online where you have to have an account which i do is open there but when i click it to go on PDF is say "Must Be Submitted by March 2011" I'm very confuse. I know it sounds confusing too but if you can answer this question is fine. Optional. It's the least i would want to get into. Just because it doesnt have the program i want to study for and tranportation from where i am (incase after school things i have to do where the late bus cant take me home)

Will service academies not take me if I didn't play a sport in high school (I run every morning by myself and am pretty healthy)?

This is in regard to the Coast Guard Academy.Twenty years ago, CGA did a points cut and then a read assessment. There was a percentile times some factor for SAT, ACT, class rank, along with fixed points for certain accomplishments (AIM was the highest, Eagle Scout and Varsity team Captain were next, etc.). There was then a points cut. Above that and a panel read your application, below and they didn’t.Many people were mediocre at several sports, which put a ton of points on the board. Team captains got more points, and recruited athletes got more points on top of that. Not playing competitive sports left a lot of points on the table. That said, if you are able to get a very high score on the Physical Fitness Examination (PFE) then you won’t be disqualified. Frequently Asked Questions - Medical/PFE. However, you are competing with a lot of people with a lot more points.

I am having a high school interview (Bergen Academies) soon. What do they ask and do you have any tips?

The interview is typically basic questions such as “why did you choose this academy?” And “why did you apply to BCA?”Some interviewers could ask more thoughtful questions and some more to the point. At the end of the day, make sure to just be yourself. Try not to stutter or shake/fidget too much— look relaxed and comfortable. Also, don’t shy away from unique, outside the box answers. The interviewers must hear the same responses a million times, so saying something that makes you unique will give you an edge.As long as you give good answers, your likelihood for being accepted will be high. Regardless, I wish you good luck!

Do the US military academies look at your weighted GPA when you apply, or do they only look at your unweighted GPA?

In my experience, every college and university has its own evaluation technique for high school grades. Your GPA doesn't mean very much; they are interested in the specific courses and grades, not the aggregate.

Does Britain have any military academies for secondary school age students?

Sort of, but not like the US does. The closest to one of the US military academies would be Welbeck plus there are a couple of boarding schools for kids whose parents are serving overseas, such as Queen Victoria School and Duke of York's Royal Military School but these are quite different to the military academies you might be familiar with.

What are the chances that I’ll get into Bergen County Academies?

Without knowing anything, relatively high. Bergen County Academies admissions are not as stringent as I’d like to believe, I think.

What kind of questions are asked during the BCA (Bergen County Academies) interview?

Quite frankly, you should be prepared for anything. There are two types of interviewers: (1) a faculty member who uses generic questions over and over again and (2) a faculty member who creates questions that may take you by surprise. I’ll give you a few examples of questions from each category. Here are a few “generic” questions:Why did you apply to your academy? What sparked your interest in this specific field, and what have you done to bolster your learning/interest?What were you involved with in middle school? For example, you can talk about a club you were involved in or a music instrument you played. Why BCA? Why did you apply here? How would you manage stress? Do you have any specific plan?Tell me a little about yourself.Where do you see yourself in 5 years? 10 years? What are your greatest weaknesses? Here are a few of those “weird” and “surprising” questions:Have you ever gotten any low grades? What kinds of labs did you do in middle school? Are you interested in this school or do your parents really want you to come here?Best of luck!If you have any more questions, feel free to email me via the follow address: camgua18@gmail.com.

Do football academies accept players of the age 20-21?

Generally, most academies promote signings of players up until the age of 16/17 - as these are the last few years become you become a senior player. However there are several cases of now professional players playing in the non-leagues, who have worked hard and been signed later in their careers. Players such as Jamie Vardy for Leicester City FC - who plied his trade in the 5th tier of English football until 2012, when he was aged 25. He is now playing in the Champions League, and internationally for England. This is just one case which shows, that if you continue to develop and work hard; eat healthy and stay in great shape, there is no reason why you can’t get spotted by a professional team. Many players also hire agents who have connections to professional teams and can arrange trials. However many are in the game solely for the money, so you should be careful going for this angle. It’s a good time to contact football clubs, as it’s the beginning of the season, so many teams may be looking for specific players. Make sure you know your best position, and maybe even create a ‘footballing CV’ or a video showcasing your skills, which you can send out to prospective teams.Best of luck.

Will i get into Bergen County Academies?

Well, I'm also applying this year and I'm sorta/kinda confident about getting in. The admissions test is in a week and I'm pretty nervous about that but I have been studying for over two years now. I have a tutor for both math and english and I've been practicing for quite a while. My NJ ask scores are pretty good. In 7th grade I got 300 on math and 277 on english. I don't know how that compares with other schools but I know that it's fairly high where I live. The admissions exam is the main factor which will decide whether or not you will be accepted. There are practice tests online for math and english. If you want to prepare better for the essay, search up online or buy some SAT books so you can practice writing essays based on stories. I think you have a pretty fair shot to get into BCA depending on what academy you are applying to. I am applying to science and for that my math grades are the most important factor. I have straight A's as well in all my classes but it is most important for me to have an A in my math and science classes. If you are applying to Engineering, Medical, or Science, then you should probably focus on math and acing that part of the admissions test. I'm in all advanced classes but I don't think that is VERY important because many schools don't even offer them. Just make sure that your grades are high, your NJ asks are pretty good, and you do well on the entrance exam next week. GOOD LUCK! If you have any other questions feel free to ask me! I have some questions for you though:
1) Are many kids applying from your school?
2) What academy are you applying to?
3) How many and what advanced classes does your school offer?
4) What math are you taking?
