Do Housing Projects Generally Have Health Care Centers For The Public

I am doing a project about how the media portrays the elderly population as a burden to society.?

I am proving that, that is false; the elderly greatly contribute to society in many ways. I have researched but I have not found many articles or facts about it. I would like to get some input about what the elderly contribute to society through means of cultural, economic and emotional aspects? So far under the cultural branch I have that the elderly are staying in the workforce past retirement and how they are passing on knowledge to newer employees, providing child care for families and volunteering in the community. Economic I was going to talk about how the elderly enjoy traveling, buying multiple properties and spending more money on leisure items (Cars, houses, boats, etc.) Emotional I was going to talk about how veterans (all elderly) can talk to soldiers going through rehabilitation and serve as a support group, speeches to the younger generation and passing on their stories, I need a few more points. With this project I must create a product, for my product I am making a photo journal. I am going to interview elderly at the local senior recreation center and in nursing homes and photograph them and get their biographies. Once that is done, I am going to type up their stories and incorporate their photos and put it in a bound book and distribute the books throughout the community so that their stories are never lost. If anyone knows any good websites, books or has an information they are willing to share please let me know :]

Are homeless shelters halfway homes?

A halfway house is an institution that allows people with physical, mental, and emotional disabilities, or those with criminal backgrounds, to learn (or relearn) the necessary skills to re-integrate into society and better support and care for themselves.Homeless shelters are a type of homeless service agency which provide temporary residence for homeless individuals and families. Shelters exist to provide residents with safety and protection from exposure to the weather while simultaneously reducing the environmental impact on the community. They are similar to, but distinguishable from, various types of emergency shelters, which are typically operated for specific circumstances and populations—fleeing natural disasters or abusive social circumstances. Extreme weather conditions create problems similar to disaster managementscenarios, and are handled with warming centers, which typically operate for short durations during adverse weather.Source:WikipediaSee how much more effective Google and Wikipedia is to asking these questions on Quora? The question is inappropriate on Quora.

Has cancer and can't afford treatment, now what?

Go to your local health department. According to the type of cancer you have, many times they have specific programs for this...i.e. prostate, lung etc. Ask if your county has a program called Project Access. Project Access ususally takes people on referral from a health center, if you don't make over $25,000/yr. They send you to the doc and pay for the treatment with local docs that offer their services at a discount to the community. If your state and county has it, you may be eligible to receive services there or at the closest teaching hospital (e.g. Duke University). Call the Cancer Society, and or American Lung Society to see how they can help. Immediately apply for Medicaid at your local social service agency, apply for Food Stamps (will take about a month). If the doc says you cannot work, apply for Social Security Disability at the nearest Social Security Office (they'll need your social security card, birth certificate and diagnosis with a note you cannot work from your doc).

Call the local HUD or Section 8 Housing, and see if your diagnosis can help you move in to housing in your community. If you can prove you are being evicted with a diagnosis you may be eligible for emergency services. They can refer you from there. United Way may be a good referral source.

Apply at unemployment office anyway on Monday. If you lost your job due to medical reasons that you can't complete the tasks, you may be able to do another type of job. When you apply, tell the counselor you can work at something else, and if you can get the doc who gave you the diagnosis to write a note that you can work at something, you can be ajudicated to receive unemployment in most states.

Good luck from an ex-case manager without medical in her town to treat her diagnosis, but fortunate enough to have a small retirement check and old enough to have a supplementary social security payment to just survive upon. My cancer is slow moving. I'm hoping I can find a job with some insurance or can work long enough to save enough in time I can move to a town with Project Access before it takes over. I've been out of work for over a year and a half and my doc dumped me because I couldn't afford to go in to see her. She "didn't want the responsibility, when I didn't go in....(because I)...could die." We live in a "sensitive" society without a great deal of empathy. I wish your friend the best treatment he can receive.
