Do I Get Charged If I Text Someone While They Are On A Cruise

IMessage on cruise ships?

my boyfriend is on a cruise and we were texting earlier while he was on the cruise, and he was going to do something so he left his phone and said he'd text me later. I've been sending messages on iMessage and they say they are being delivered right away, but he has not answered once. do you think the messages aren't really sending since he's in the middle of the ocean or he's just not answering? I'm just confused cause it says the messages deliver. thanks!

Can you text on a cruise ship?

Yes, you can text while on a cruise ship although, depending on your location and the cruise you are taking it could be an expensive proposition. The cost depends on several things, whether your communication goes through a ship board tower or a land based tower, the location, and, of course, your plan. Certainly it is cheaper to text than phone however both can be done at a reasonable rate if you plan ahead. Check with your cell phone provider about roaming charges as they relate to texting. You can also enquire with the cruise line if cell phones go through an onboard tower, land based when available, or a combination of the two. I used my cell on several trips both in the California area and on Alaska cruises without occurring significant charges. Certainly they were cheaper than land based phone calls I made.

Cell phone plans for a cruise?

on board you will pay at minimum $2.50 a minute ON TOP OF what your carrier charges. Texts can be less: as low as 5 cents to receive and 50 to send.

in ports you need to look at your plan's map, as well as their fees for roaming. many offer an international plan that is either free or every inexpensive a month and can be turned off when the cruise is done.

as for data/wiFi, that will be SLOW and EXPENSIVE on board. slower than dial up.

Do roaming charges apply to texting?

cruise ships are tricky, you know it is 4.99 per minute for voice calls. but for texting and specifically T-Mobile he would not be charged if he has a package when he receives messages. If he sends a message it would be .35. if it is tmobile use the source below and find the cruise line he is using for more info.

With AT&T does it cost extra to text someone who's in Bermuda?

It will not cost you extra because you will be texting to a US number while you are in the US. It will cost him a fortune. Crusie ship rates are probably the highest on earth. Frankly, if he's carrying his cell phone with him, he's an idiot.

Will it cost me or my girlfriend if we text while she is on a cruise..?

YES! Please don't do it. It will turn into international charges if the texts/phone work at all. Trust me it is not worth it. I ended up with a $3,000+ bill JUST IN TEXTS alone while in Germany.

How can I disable data, but still be able to send text messages on my iPhone?

Text messaging doesn't use "data" as defined by cell phone networks-- if you can make and receive calls, you can send text messages, even if you can't connect to the internet. To disable data on an iPhone, look in Settings under General --> Network. Turn off "Cellular Data". It's probably not necessary to also explicitly turn off 3G networking but go ahead and do that too. With this change the phone will connect to the voice network and send and receive text messages. It will also work with WiFi, when available. It won't use any cell network data.Keep in mind that accessing the voice network may still be very expensive, depending on who your phone carrier is and what countries you're traveling in.
