Do I Have An Overbite

Do I have an overbite?

My top teeth cover a little more than half my bottom teeth. The top of my bottom teeth barely touch the top of my mouth and lately behind my front teeth has been really sore from my bottom teeth rubbing behind them especially when I wake up and bite down. My mom had to get braces from an overbite too. Will I need braces and do I have an overbite?

How do I know if I have an overbite?

ok..so overbite, is when maxillary teeth (top) fall over mandibular (lower jaw teeth). You can have slight, moderate or severe/deep overbite-depending how are your maxillary teeth positioned in relationship to mandibular.
If they are touching it's called "edge-to-edge" and that's when most of chipping happens, or also when you grind. Definitely grinding could cause chipping due to heavy biting forces. Overbite by itself will not cause cavities. Cavities are caused by acidic environment, so if you do keep your oral hygiene as you're saying you do maybe the problem is diet. Maybe you're drinking/eating sugary beverages/foods. Or if not sugary than maybe you're drinking diet drinks which have really low pH which in turn is acidic and dissolves enamel eventually leading to loss of minerals and higher incidence and possibility of decay.
Also when you're drinking soda or juices never brush afterwards for 20 minutes-simply rinse with water. Because your teeth are exposed to acid when drinking such beverages once you brush-toothpastes are abrasive, thus might remove some layer of enamel. ....and it takes 20 minutes for your saliva to return back to normal.
so but basically once again to answer your question-NO overbite will not cause cavities. You need bacteria and acidic environment.

Are you supposed to have an overbite?

Even though you do not have an overbite, the rubber bands are there to either take away an overbite, or prevent one from happening. With your teeth moving around it is still possible that you could develop an overbite, so the rubber bands help to align your jaw and make it easier for the braces to straighten your teeth out. Hope this helps!!

I STILL HAVE AN OVERBITE AFTER BRACES?

Just got my braces off last week, and after all my hard work I still have an overbite.
Anything I can do to correct it besides surgery?
Also, I would prefer to not go back to headgear or braces.
I'm so disappointed, I put over two years into this and my teeth are far from perfect.
The orthodontist removed them because I was a few months over my treatment time. They weren't making any money from me as a patient, so I guess that's what matters most to them.

The overbite is bigger than I would like it to be.

I already asked this question yesterday but nobody really answered me.
All they told me was to go ask my orthodontist, which I am going to do, but I don't have an appointment there for almost 2 months. I'm just looking for stories of how people corrected their overbites without getting braces again. Kind of hoping for a miracle here, haha.

Do I have an overbite? Do I need braces?

correction : overbite is normal finding in humans and defined as vertical distance between incisal edges of upper and lower anterior teeth ((http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/co... )), it's 2-4 mm , while the upnormal is deepbite misunderstood as overbite ((http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9G... ))
upnormal also may be open bite
pictures of yours don't show deepbite but show increased overjet (horizontal distance bet upper and lower teeth ) which need correction by braces .
