Do I have good taste in music?
I only listen to the latest, trendiest mainstream hits. My favorite artists are Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj, Selena Gomez, Shawn Mendes, Kesha, Harry Styles, Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Demi Lovato, Dua Lipa, Zara Larsson and loads more. A lot of people say my taste is really trash but I doubt it. I think the music I listen to is creative and meaningful. These singers are talented and I don't understand what's trash about it.
What does it mean to have a good taste in music?
If someone says you have a good taste in music, it means 99% of the time simply your taste happens to be simmilar to the taste of the person you talk to. That is all there is to it...Oh, and the other 1%? Those are people who think they can judge your taste "objectively" on basis of some artificial, superfluid "property" of the music you listen... which is basically the aformentioned 99% with a big bunch of pretentioness added on top... well, OK, maybe 0.9% and 0.1% actually just means you have an interesting or wide taste in music which in turn makes you more interesting even if that taste does not really relate to the taste of the person in question...Also: I don't think having a "good" taste in music makes you "necessarily" treat people better... you might get along better, or at least have a topic to talk about, with people of same/simmilar taste, but that is about it...my two cents.
How do you know if someone has got good music taste?
good music taste differs from person to person. I listen heavy metal/death metal and for me EDM/Rap/Hip-hop sounds atrocious. For someone else my music will be nothing but noise. It is like asking “which is the best cuisine?”. There can never be a single-all-encompassing answer to such questions. So, since there can be no single correct answer to “what is good music”, there can be no answer to your question.So, the real question is, why do you ask this question:You have little interest in music and it does not move you and that you hardly listen to any music (which is fine, you may be moved by art or writing or other forms of expression). you listen to whatever is played on the radio and it is good if it is pleasant to listen and doesn’t draw your attention to it or in other ways distract you.Hence the reason you ask is so that you can talk about it as a subject or to judge for yourself if someone has good taste in music. You have recently come across someone who claims to be into music, you either want to know if that person has a good taste in music (appears more likely) or want to create an impression that you have a good taste in music.Whichever of the above is your motivation, it doesn’t matter, because there is no correct or incorrect answer to this.

the 2 girls i go out with are the preppy girls both have no taste in music they like whatever is on mtv and no they dont have there own taste cause she said one song sucked appered on mtv and now she likes it seem like that with all girls HOW COME there are not girls that like Led Zeppelin Beatles Gnr Nirvana the ones that do are like gothic punk or ugly ( i only date really hot preppy girls

i love it when me and a guy have common music interests. But what i hate is when you ask them like whats their favorite artist or song or type of music and like what do u listen to and all they say is rap or i love lil wayne when all that crap is about sex and money. i like rap but i like it when a guy has a soft and sweet side and that shows through music.

I listen to 2ne1, koda kumi, bjork, natalia kills, sistar, eliza doolittle, and kate nash to name a few. everyone in my class thinks i have bad (or at least weird) tastes. But then they go off and listen to lmfao, david guetta, and ke$ha. I just think the pop culture of music is interesting, like if you don't follow the top 40 then you have "bad taste" but most people who don't listen to top 40 think that the people who listen to top 40 have bad taste...that was confusing... How do I improve my taste of music?
Listen to everything and everything. Sounds kinda silly to say but the majority of music you listen to, is because it's most likely in your comfort zone. You know a certain artist or group and know what to expect 9/10. If there's music your not particularly a fan of, try listening to a few tracks by the artist and see if you still dont like it. At the very least you will have developed a strong set of reasons as to why you dont like it.I was never a fan of any rock / metal / heavy metal ... Then I started playing drums and started listening to Slipknot, System of a Down, Metallica... Bands I didnt like cause their music seemed too agressive suddenly turned into complex rhythms, timings, etc...Spend a lot of time on sites like SoundCloud, Musicfellas and places like these. They have a larger amount of "non-commerical" music which will allow you to listen to many genres sometimes from a singular artist.
