Do I Have To Have My New Bcm

Do I need to take my van to a dealer to program BCM?

My 1999 Chevy Venture needs a new Body Control Module, I have heard 3 different stories, one I have to take it to a dealer to program or flash it, two, I can install but need a locksmith to program for the key, and three, I just install it and do some 10 minute learning process for the computer. Which is true? I believe it does have pass key but no alarm(no onboard alarm but have an aftermarket one installed).

Is it expensive to fix a BCM on a car?

I have a 2001 Pontiac gran am and it didnt want to start so i took it to the dealer and they told me it needs to get the head casket fixed and news a new BCM, BCM means BODY CONTROL MODULE. Anyway, i need to know where can i get this fixed and how much would it cost? My mechanic told me he can fix the head casket but he cant fix the BCM because dealers are the only ones who can activate the BCM, but i think there might be other places but i dont know where, maybe one of you know somewhere where i can go? If you do, tell me please:) Thanks for help.

I heard that the BCM in 2001 impala can be bypass. How can i bypass the bcm in my 2001 chevy impala?

The BCM cannot be bypassed, it is required for the vehicle to start and most, if not all of the electrical components require the BCM to function (radio, gauges, lights, etc...). The BCM contains a security system called Passlock, which requires a "valid key" to be in the ignition in order for the car to start. The BCM sends a signal to the BCM that allows the car to start. Without that signal, the car will not start.

If you're wanting to install an aftermarket radio you can purchase a relocation harness that will relocate your stock radio to the trunk so you can keep the functionality that is built-in (chimes, reset oil life monitor, change RKE settings, reset low-tire pressure, etc.). Here's a link to the relocation harness: http://www.autotoys.com/x/product.php?pr...

Or, you can get a chime harness (Scosche GM-2000 or equiv.) that will retain the chimes (lights on, keys in ignition, low fuel, etc.). You will lose the ability to reset the oil life monitor and the other settings through the stock radio. Check your manual for other ways to reset these things (You can download it for free from http://www.mygmlink.com if you don't have one)

If you want to install a keyless entry or remote start system you will need a Passlock bypass module in addition to the security/remote start system.

I hope this answers your questions.

Good luck!

Which new rifle and sidearm should be the standard issue for U.S. infantry?

Rifle: The AR/M-16/M4A1 is fantastic. One of the things that make it fantastic is the inherent adabilty. Since the mid 1960s the rifle evolved from a rifle with a 20 inch barrel, a rifle-length has system and and full auto trigger group - the M16A1 - to a system rifle with a 14.5 inch barrel, a carbine length gas system. So, what’s next?Standard issue rifle:M4A1 lower receiver. For the upper, a 14.5 inch barrel with a mid length gas system and - well - this URG-1 URG-I Complete, Near Clone, 14.5", 5.56MM. Also, everyone gets a Geissele Super Select Fire trigger.Surefire SOCOM surpressor.Midwest Industry backup sights.Choose between the Aimpoint Comp M4, ACOG, or some type of low powered magnified optic (when I say choose I’m suggesting these will be the optics in inventory, not that every individual trooper gets to pick his or her optic). Every rifle gets some sort of optic.Surefire Scout in an Arisaka M-Lok Mount (if you haven’t messed around with the Arisaka you’re gonna love it).PEQ-15 for NV ishLancer magazines for everyone. For anyone who doesn’t get the standard issue rifle:M4A1 lower receiver. 11.5 inch upper receiver. This, actually BCM 11.5'' Carbine (Enhanced Lightweight **FLUTED**) Upper Receiver Group w/ BCM MCMR-10 M-LOK Handguard (NFA) w/Surefire muzzle device.Same trigger as above.Same surpressor as above. Same light/ IR designator, same optics.Pistol:Edited to add: I don’t want anyone who isn’t going to shoot at least 100 rounds per week to be issued a pistol. I know my wish is not realistic. It ain’t happening and I get it.So, instead of a traditional pistol, I’d like to arm people who don’t shoot for a living with a shorter rifle. This upper BCM Standard 9'' 300 BLACKOUT Upper Receiver Group w/ BCM MCMR-8 Handguard (NFA), with a semi-auto only lower, an MFT minimalist stock, an Aimpoint T2, and a Surefire X300. I’m going .300 because of the shorter barrel. And if I have to give someone a handgun: Glock 19. Some units will be issued G19 MOS with RMRs. Again, the RMRs will be in inventory, not that they’ll be handed out to every mofo with a hat or something.

How BCM (Body Control Module) and ECU are related?

Simply put, automotive BCM (Body Control Module) and ECU (Electronic Control Unit) are related in a way that the automotive BCM acts as a gateway that manages and control inter-ECU communication. The modern day cars are equipped with a host of features including Anti-lock brake systems, power-controlled steering, power windows, central locking, Android powered Infotainment system and many. All of these electronic features are controlled and managed by Electronic Control Units (ECUs). These ECUs are nothing but pre-programmed microcontroller tasked with a particular job. However, different ECUs’ within a vehicle are also required to communicate with each other. For instance, the transmission control unit (An ECU) will have to communicate with the ECU that controls the powertrain of the vehicle. The door control unit will interact with battery management system and so on.This inter-ECU communication is managed and controlled by a Body (Control Module BCM).The BCM makes use of the vehicle’s bus system (CAN, LIN etc.) to communicate with different ECUs in the vehicle. An analogy can be drawn between the human brain and the BCM. The brain controls different body parts (different ECUs) by sending and receiving signals through the nerves (vehicle BUS system like CAN, LIN).A BCM thus, mitigates the need for cabled plug-in connection between them within the vehicle.I hope it is amply clear how is automotive ECU related to the Body Control Module.

What is the difference between the (bcm) body control module and the main computer.?

The BCM controls the automatic door locks, dome light delay, and other internal options. The main computer or PCM (powertrain control module) controls all of the sensors and relays for the motor and tranny. Most of them now talk to and through each other.

To install on a Gm is not a do it yourself job. You need every serial number of the entire car to program it.

We did a monte carlo and the lady was in a hurry and didn't want to wait till we got the door lock code. She went on vacation and then couldn't understand why her KEY FOB wouldn't unlock the doors.

Guess what???? She paid for a whole new BCM.

I had new speaker and amp installed and now car won't start! Can this be caused by bad installation?

Oh these are always fun. Though I can't give you a diagnosis over email, I can tell you it is 100% possible to kill a car with a stereo installation.  Your amplifier needs a signal to turn on or it will stay on always and kill your battery. Stereo install guys turn on the car and stab a test light into random wires looking for one powered only when the car is turned on. Unfortunately they have been known to splice into a CAN data bus. The CAN network in charge of communication for your security and locking could be disabled keeping your key from being authorized. Or the CAN network for your chassis systems can be shut down that deals with communication for your engine, transmission, and typically traction control. A CAN network is typically a 5 volt system but it suplies power in micro amps as it is only used for communication and not supplying a load such as switching a relay, lighting a bulb, or spinning a motor. Splicing into these to supply the relay to turn on the amp effectively grounds the circuit and does not allow for the digital signal to propogate. Sometimes it easier and they just blew a fuse while poking around with a test light, or shorted a harness by running a screw through it while mounting components. Had a lowjack installer put a screw through a floorboard and into a fuel tank once, cause a check engine light due to an emissions test, luckily it didn't burn down the car first. I have fixed at least a dozen of these problems on Benz's in the shop after a car got towed in from the stereo shop.

How would one define "chance"?

It really depends what way you mean chanceIf you mean chance by “I have a chance to win” then I would define it by saying there is the possibility that the event could occurIf you mean If “luck and chance” then I would say it is much more complicated. The universe is governed by statistics and therefore nothing is totally random. There is nothing that is unpredictable. When we think something is unpredictable, we just are not able to pick up the patterns, or there are so many statistical possibilities that we are not advanced enough to account for all possibilities. So back to the question, chance in the phrase “luck and chance” or “bye chance” really just means “bye a possibility we did not account for”

Can you safely unplug and re-plug the BCM (Body Control Module) of a car without having to reprogram/relearn it?

Can you safely unplug and re-plug the BCM (Body Control Module) of a car without having to reprogram/relearn it?With every vehicle that I know of, as long as the battery is unhooked that shouldnt be a problem but make sure of your specific make and model before doing it. Reprogram/relearn, are not the issues that concern me so much though. Most if not all control modules make use of eeproms to store the data. Eeprom data is nonvolatile meaning that it is not dependent on continuous power to store data like flash memory. I don't see how (but I'm the first to acknowledge I haven't seen everything) that a module could discern between a dead/unhooked battery and being unplugged.I would be more concerned with issues related to vehicle security systems, especially if it is a European car. I'm working on a BMW right now that had the key turned on while the battery was out and now the EWS (BMW anti-theft system) doesn't recognize the key. I wouldn't have anticipated that any more than the customer who did it. It requires dealer level software and proceedures (or a resourceful and stubborn tech like myself) to reset it.
