Do I Need A Rabies Shot A Bat Just Flew Into Our House

Should I get the rabies vaccine after a bat flew out of my truck tho I did not touch the bat? Could I get it from cross-contamination?

You can only get rabies if a rabid animal with the virus in its saliva contacted a fresh wound with its saliva, in other words a bite wound. Rabies is not spread by any other method.

We found a bat in the house, what are the chances of us get rabies?

Hmm well, if the bat was in the house, and it was in the house while people were asleep, there is no telling if it landed on someone at some point.Of course the chances of rabies is extremely low, but it is “not zero.” First, the chance that the bat is rabid is low, and it is equally low chance that it landed on someone who was sleeping and was unaware of the bat. Both low chances together are extra low. But still—when dealing with rabies, I typically prefer the chances to be “zero.” That is why I went to get rabies shots when bats were in my house.BTW I love bats, they are excellent for eating insects. However, they do carry the risk of rabies. Don’t ever touch a bat. If you find a bat in a room where someone sleeps, just get vaccinated. If you call your state epidemiologist, he/she will hem and haw and tell you that the chances are infinitesimally small but “not zero.” Feel free to call your state epidemiologist. Will your insurance company cover it? Mine didn’t.

A bat flew over my head....do I need to get a rabies shot?

So I was at my sisters house and her son brought a bat in the house and let it go. as soon as I seen it I ran in the other room . I know they carry rabies but we don't know if this one had it or not bc it was caught and shewed out of the house. So That leaves my nephew and his friends who caught it exposed...he said he was not bitten and the rest of us who was in the living room that it flew around in. no one was bit but we were in the same room. Do we need to get shots? Bc i dont have health care I dont want to go if there is no need. What should I do?

A bat flew in my house today what does that mean?

I mean our family is really big and we are really close and we believe in the regular superstitions like if you dream about fish or death then someones preganant, well we also believe that if a bird flies in your house it means death is coming. And i really believe it because a bird flew in my cousins house two weeks before another cousin died so should i be scared???

What if a bat flies into you? Can you get rabies?

I was outside under the carport the other night and something flew into me. It was either a big bug or a bat because it hit me kinda hard, and was rather large, not as big as a bird but still kinda big for a night flying critter, I though it was a locust but I didn't hear the tale tale hum of the wings, it was completely quiet, nor did I see what it actually was, it hit me and was gone, I was wearing a camo jacket (the thin shirt ones, not the thick coat ones), but when I woke up the other morning I found a bite mark in the area that it hit me. The bite kinda looked like a spider or mosquito bite, ya know about a centimeter in diameter, raised to a point with two little puncture wounds about a millimeter apart or just one central one, and kinda pinkish/reddish color. Will a bat just fly into someone? does this bite sound like a bat bite or just a bug bite? Should I be worried about rabies? If you have dealt with bats I would like to know what a bat bite looks like, and if I should be worried about rabies.

Can I get rabies by having a bat fly near me?

No, based on what you describe no prophylaxis is necessary. In fact, even if the bat had brushed against you there would be no risk. Handling a dead bat poses some risk, possibly because of residual virus in oronasal secretions.I love to watch our local bats on the wing here in the warmer months. They’re amazingly agile. With a small frequency converter and earbuds, I can listen to them hunt and call—it sounds a bit like a Geiger counter when they’re pursuing prey.

Can my cat get rabies from biting a bat?

Last night a bat flew into the house and the cat was jumping up and down trying to get it and then he finally bit it...can he gets rabies from just biting it or does it have to bit him?
